General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (4 Viewers)

I just want to express what a pain in the ### the boss in the Staff of the Magus quest for the Mages' Guild is. Even with Lydia by my side I can't get him below abou 65% health before he fries my ###. :hot:
He worked me over several times when I fought him up close. Finally I went to the top and fought him from where the mage guys imprisoning him are. He never did come up to get me. I did put down a rune along the way up there so that may have kept him out, or he might now be that smart. From up top, it was basically an extended game of stick my head out shoot, repeat, heal, shoot, etc. He does have a sweet piece of gear that makes it worth while as well. Also, this advice is all probably useless if you aren't playing someone that has good ranged abilities...

I'm deep into the Thieve's Guild quests. Good storyline for a video game, much like the Oblivion guild quests. Video games are starting to catch up to genre, and I'm loving it. Some of these story arcs in Oblivion and Skyrim are on par with fantasy novels in terms of character, suspense, and gripping plot (they're "page turners").My dream of playing a video game on par with a literary novel may yet come true.
I thought this was the strength of Dragonage: Origins. Very linear game but the plot and mini- plots were top notch.

Speaking of rabbits, anyone try to kill one?I noticed one of the stats is "rabbits killed" (or something), so I tried to snipe one with my bow. ### #### do those little mofos move fast. Even with 1 rank of "25% slow time" I still couldn't nail it. You probably need to use magic. Nuke'em.
I've shot one before. Stamina + Sprint + Shoot and Pray imo

If you've joined the companions you can force shout any of them till your blue in the face. I have all three shout words for unrelenting force and I love shouting out that chatty old maid that seems to follow me around telling me all that she does. One time she was sweeping and I shouted at her. Her broom flew across the room and she was left standing on top of a cabinet. She gets down sits her ### in a chair and says "I'm getting too old for this." lol

Can you play this game and succeed without using all that magical stuff? I mean, potions and stuff for healing or whatever are fine, but I mean the other stuff.
Yes, I'm a lvl 16 two handed, heavy armored Orc and I have not used a lick of magic (except shouts)

that is awesome.

Why doesn't this game have 2-4 player co-op? It would probably be the best game I'd ever played if it did.

Bethesda has addressed this in the past. Their answer is basically, "This is the kind of games we make."For anyone playing on a PS3, the level of noise about lag issues keeps rising.
I was thinking about this. I guess what I plan to do is play the main quest and then start new games and do other stuff. Would have been cool to not have to worry about it but it is what it is. Thing is, I would still buy and play it if I knew from the start. Actually, I may have bought an Xbox I am having such a good time with it

I am playing this game at a snail's pace. Seems I have a touch of Skyrim ADD.

:bag:

Having fun though.

I want to become a world renown Vampire Hunter.

Fits with my WW alter ego
. Might have to bust out the guide to help hunt some of the blood suckers down.

Has anyone come across any vampire specific missions?

Also, is it safe to assume you can't be a WW and a vampire at the same time?

I'm getting MW3 for Christmas. With all the issue I've heard about and BF3 already occupying time, I think I'll be taking MW3 back and exchanging it for this immediately. I haven't had a single player game I've really enjoyed in a long time. Probably Resident Evil 4.

Best single player gaming experience I've ever had fwiw

I am still running an original Xbox 360 w/o an HDMI :bag:

Considering going and getting a new one. I want to see this a little better. Might even help with the shooters too.

Worth it? Never have seen a side-by-side comparison of HDMI v. non-HDMI on the xbox.

I'm finding werewolf form is really bad against silver weapons. I rarely use it against members of Silver Hand. Do you find yourself ever using it? I only really use it to hunt animals.

I think component and HDMI pictures are both up to 1080p so I don't think it should make a difference picture-wise really. HDMI is just nice because it can handle both the video and audio in one cable.

Honestly, I don't want this. I like the fact that the developers poured time and resources into creating a great single-player experience. There are all sorts of games out there that are built around online play; a good SP open-world SP experience is something I don't want to see die off.

:goodposting: I ran component for a couple of years, and couldn't tell any difference when I switched over to HDMI. Visually, it's the same thing.

:goodposting: Exactly the same thing I thought last night. Exploring through Skyrim with a friend/group would be amazing.

I understand your point of view if it means the degradation of the single player game. But if it was the SAME game, having the option to play with a friend, even if they only limited it to 2-player co-op, would be AMAZING. You could play it by yourself if you wanted to, but the option to play with a friend would be awesome. I don't usually play multiplayer to play against people, mostly to play WITH people. Some of my favorite gaming experiences of all time have been co-op gameplay. Diablo 2 and Borderlands to be specific. Borderlands is an interesting example, because while the game was not the best game ever, adding a buddy to the experience made it amazing.

in a nutshell does this game require repetitiveness tasks to level up? If this was GTA with good graphics and dragons and #### I might be in for it. Do you actually get to fight crap or is it all menu driven?

There are skills that are repetitive if you want to level them; mostly the smithing/alchemy/etc. type skills. But in general, you just play the game however you want to and the appropriate skills level up. And yes, the fighting is real-time, not turn based if that's what you are asking. That is one reason that I didn't like dragon age nearly as much as I like this game.

AVS forums would disagree. However, the main reason to go to HDMI is to upgrade the audio portion IMO. 1080i run on HDMI is supposed to be better than 720p on component. I believe 1080i on component is not advised and perhaps not supported. (Again, this is serious videophiles talking, not my opinion)

That's the thing. I don't think you can make the same game, with the same level of detail, and add in an entirely different game mode that requires online connectivity, re-balancing of various areas, etc. Not without a bunch more resources.

I would pay another 30 bucks or so if there was a second disc for co op. Would that work. (I know nothing on how video games are put together)

Ok... maybe you can, maybe you can't. But it would be the best game ever if it existed. Some day we'll get there I'm sure.(and really, the framework sort of exists in the realm of MMORPG's... I just want something BETTER (like Skyrim), on console, and with just 2-4 player co-op)

Seriously jacked about getting this game tonight. Been away from home for two weeks, so picking it up as soon as my flight lands.

Should I just block off the whole weekend?

Yes... if blocking off a whole weekend was physically possible for me, I would have done so.

I've used it against the Silver Hand on occasion. The speed at which you can get up on them and swat them down seems to limit the damage. But I see your point re: the damage you can received with the silver weapons.

OK, so I want this, despite it looking like a pretty basic upgrade from Oblivion. If the levelling is actually fixed in this and I can get some serious Magic going I could see this being a lot of fun.

So here's my question: I do not have an Xbox or PS3. I do have an old PC that I upgraded to handle Oblivion but it won't even turn on now.

So if I want this game I am looking at about $250-$300 spend if I go console, or I can spend about $100-$200 modding up the old PC to make it ready. But like I said the thing is easily 4 years old and I can't even get it to turn on.

So, what's the way to go?

Pretty much my dilemma, only my pc still works but it's dying pretty fast. I am going to buy a 4GB Xbox ($200). It will be for this game at first, but I am sure there will be other games in the future I will get. Plus I think I'll love playing on a big screen. Then when I can afford it I will buy another gaming pc.

I am playing this game at a snail's pace. Seems I have a touch of Skyrim ADD. :bag:
Believe me, I am too. I have a bunch of hours played, but am only level 7ish. I explore every table, cabinet, wardrobe, etc. filled with items, pick flowers and herbs that are growing randomly, look at random things, etc.

That's me. I'm so concerned I'll miss something big, I scan the room 2-3 times just to make sure

Wait to see what the deals are on consoles. I know there will be a PS3 bundle deal on Amazon.

So do these machines all have the same processing power with different memory, or are the 80/160/300 GB versions of PS3 faster?

Based on what I've been reading, I'd stay away from getting a PS3 for Skyrim. Picking up one on Black Friday has been my plan for the past couple of weeks but all the complaints about lag/freezing/inoperatibility of NPCs and quests once you hit 40-50 game hours has skairt me off. So instead I'll be adding an xbox to the household.
So what is the difference between this system:http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Game-System-Console/dp/B0007SV72A/ref=sr_1_11?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1321642729&sr=1-11and this one?http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-4GB-Console/dp/B003O6JKLC/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1321642729&sr=1-2Basically to get the latest games to run do you need to buy the latest system? Top one seems to be more expensive because it is more recent.

Top one has more storage capabilities for saved games, downloads, music, etc...

Why doesn't this game have 2-4 player co-op? It would probably be the best game I'd ever played if it did.
Because then most of us would end up homeless, jobless, and disowned by our families.Really concerned, btw, about the PS3 issues everyone is talking about. I'm probably 25 hours in and haven't had any problems yet, but at this point I'm so addicted that I'll be devastated if the game becomes unplayable and I can't continue with my character. Especially since I already trashed my first, who was one of those cat people. Was really excited about the night vision, but to me it ended up just being an eyesore.

Yeah - I have Vampire vision and never use it because everything is so washed out, I can't tell what's happening. Not a well done feature.

Top one is being sold used by some shady seller.Bottom one is being sold new by Microsoft.Microsoft did do some changes to their xbox. Up until some time (3 years? 4 years?) ago, they ran the risk of hitting the "red ring of death." Basically, your xbox died. Nothing could be done for it. The more recent ones have supposedly fixed that problem. Other than that, I don't think there's a real significant difference between how they function other than the differences in hard drive space.
So other than the red ring of death no reason to not buy an older version? Much cheaper.

I got MW3 the day it came out and have played through some of the multiplayer co-op and the single player. About an hour or so online (this from someone who played BLOPS and MW2 online a several hours a week) also.

I haven't touched MW3 since I bought this game. Wife and kids were actually gone last weekend and I played probably at least 10 hours last weekend....and was kinda PO'd I had to stop and mow the lawn, cook, etc.

Older versions run much hotter and sound like an airplane when running. The other day I had some buddies over and we were playing call of duty... tons of bombs, explosions, etc. going off... and in the middle of the chaos my buddy is like "What is that sound?"... oh, nothing, just the 747 I use to play games...

Thanks for all the insights. I've heard if you get red ring o death Microsoft will repair/replace if you ##### enough.

Truth be told I am only going to be able to get this if my promotion goes through.

This is kind of where I am.... I am level 22 (not sure how many hours played, but have been doing mostly side quests and not very far into the main quest yet) and I have noticed my PS3 does pause/lag sometimes...usually when I am opening the menu to change items in the middle of a fight. Annoying but not a deal breaker so far. :crossingfingers&toes:
