Why doesn't this game have 2-4 player co-op? It would probably be the best game I'd ever played if it did.
Because then most of us would end up homeless, jobless, and disowned by our families.Really concerned, btw, about the PS3 issues everyone is talking about. I'm probably 25 hours in and haven't had any problems yet, but at this point I'm so addicted that I'll be devastated if the game becomes unplayable and I can't continue with my character. Especially since I already trashed my first, who was one of those cat people. Was really excited about the night vision, but to me it ended up just being an eyesore.
This is kind of where I am.... I am level 22 (not sure how many hours played, but have been doing mostly side quests and not very far into the main quest yet) and I have noticed my PS3 does pause/lag sometimes...usually when I am opening the menu to change items in the middle of a fight. Annoying but not a deal breaker so far. :crossingfingers&toes:
I've had lagging ot the O Menu all along on occasion.

Main quest, 1st dragon encounter:

So I kill the first dragon at the tower. Get my 1st shout (which I generally forget about during gameplay). Go back to talk to the Jarl, and his assistant is giving me sass about 'how can we believe that this guy is really a dragonborn?'. So, naturally, I figure that's my prompt to shout in his face. Unfortunately that was not the correct course of action and about 10 dudes attack and kill me instantly. :bag: :lmao:
:lmao:I had a random guard come up to me and tell me to stop all the shouting, said I was freaking people out. I said ok. Then when he turned around I shouted him into next week.It was like setting a Riverwood chicken on fire. The whole village lost it and attacked. :lmao:

At level 20 I think right now with my Breton Assassin/Archer. Haven't really touched any big quests, killed the first dragon etc but right now I am making my way to Riften. Starting off from Windhelm, Riften is a hike. All my perks have gone into sneak, archery and some one handed so far. At level 90 sneak, 40/40 on archery/one-handed. I have some problems with dragons because it takes a while to kill them with a bow so far and I can't sneak up on them. Other than that most enemies are cake if I can sneak up behind them. Leveled up in smithing to like 45 ish but haven't perked it yet. I have a few perks saved up until I figure out where I want to put them.

Believe me, I am too. I have a bunch of hours played, but am only level 7ish. I explore every table, cabinet, wardrobe, etc. filled with items, pick flowers and herbs that are growing randomly, look at random things, etc.
That's me. I'm so concerned I'll miss something big, I scan the room 2-3 times just to make sure
See, while I try to be thorough, I also don't mind not turning over every leaf. That just leaves more fun for the second time through (whenever that may be).

Check out illusion magic. There's some good spells for this build.

I am still running an original Xbox 360 w/o an HDMI :bag:Considering going and getting a new one. I want to see this a little better. Might even help with the shooters too.Worth it? Never have seen a side-by-side comparison of HDMI v. non-HDMI on the xbox.
I think component and HDMI pictures are both up to 1080p so I don't think it should make a difference picture-wise really. HDMI is just nice because it can handle both the video and audio in one cable.
:goodposting: I ran component for a couple of years, and couldn't tell any difference when I switched over to HDMI. Visually, it's the same thing.
AVS forums would disagree. However, the main reason to go to HDMI is to upgrade the audio portion IMO. 1080i run on HDMI is supposed to be better than 720p on component. I believe 1080i on component is not advised and perhaps not supported. (Again, this is serious videophiles talking, not my opinion)

Never really played a game like this before (I like FPS games) but all the rave reviews have piqued my interest so I'll be picking it up after work. Any no-brainer tips for a complete newb? Also, the character that can use a bow, sneak around, and use magic sounds cool to me. Can one do all this with one character?

Yes - in fact, this seems to be one of the more common builds - it's mine a matter of fact.

I find myself not using a whole lot of the spell repertoire available. The necromancy spells take too long to take effect. The illusion spells (at least low level) don't seem to do a whole lot. Alteration is utilitarian, but I haven't seen a need to invest in that much. The destruction spells see almost all my usage.Maybe this is why I have like 5 perks unused at this point - I can't figure out what my guy is gonna be when he grows up.

Yeah, I find that I'm not using magic very often any more. Every single perk is going into either Archery or Sneak.

At first, I needed magic for when an enemy survived my initial archery sneak attack and proceeded to charge me. But now enemies generally can't find me even while I'm pelting them mercilessly with Orcish arrows. I'm really enjoying this build.

Apparently patch 1.2 for both consoles has been submitted to Microsoft and Sony respectively for certification, with the patch tentatively set to release in a couple of weeks. No word on what it's supposed to fix, but one would hope that it fixes the texture streaming issue on the 360 and the save file problem on the PS3.

Although I'm a little skeptical on that second point. Ever-increasing save files have been a staple of every Bethesda game I've ever played (n = 4 admittedly), so you'd think that if they could fix that, they would have done so by now.

Anyone curious about dragons, where they come from, what the name of the dragon in the opening is, and how he's related to the dragon Martin becomes to beat the daemon prince at the end of Oblivion, check out the books on Akatosh.

I found one pretty informative. It was good hints and background on the current rise of dragons.

Also found a book that summarizes the events of Oblivion nicely.

I love conjuring my flaming torch. Let her loosen up the enemy and I sneak in arrows while my magic regenerates and then I move to duel wielding flames

For people wondering whether to get it for console or PC...PC all the way.

The mods are so worth it. Just look at Morrowind..with mods you can make the game look better than Skyrim.

Not to mention the mods that add in NPC schedules and such for Morrowind.

Trust me...you will want to play with the mods when they start pumping a lot out for Skyrim.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I really do not enjoy multiplayer games. Thrilled that this is a single player series. Please keep it that way, Bethesda.

I think I just got that spell. I'm gonna give that a whirl tonight. After I do surgery on my PS3 tonight (fingers crossed). My HD is going bad and I need to replace.

Another Skyrim Example of Thinking Outside the Box

So you found the "Become Ethereal" shout. You cannot be harmed or harm someone. And you think, ok this might be useful if I get rushed by a mob....then you forget all about it.

But wait! There's other uses! Ever been on top of a real high mountain or cliff and didn't want to walk all the way back down?

Become Ethereal and enjoy Skyrim Base Jumping!

:excited:

My wife is super pissed about this. I, of course think its funny. I'm posting from phone so I hope the link workshttp://m.digitalspy.com/gaming/news/a351381/parents-name-child-after-skyrim-win-free-games-for-life.html
Does your wife often get pissed over things that don't affect her in the slightest and are none of her business?

Not too often but she hates when kids get "stupid" names. I guess that's her only time

That's awesome. I've discovered you can surf down huge waterfalls even without this trick if you are careful as well.

It's come in real handy for a few Thieve's Guild missions. I've jumped off towers, mountains, waterfalls. Loads of fun and way easier than fighting 10+ guys.

For those you deep-deep into the Thieve's Guild quests -

Holy crap is Nightingale armor bada##

Is the quest after getting that armor the last one? It seems like a climax, and so I'm scared to start the quest. I anticipate getting p0wn3d.

I think so. I'm halfway through. We're chasing Mercer through a sick dungeon of Dwarven traps, automatons, and Falmor warriors. If you like following the story like I do, swing by the magic college library first and read up on the Dwarven-Snow Elf/Falmor history. I also think that wizard/researcher in Markarth had a bunch of these books on his table. It'll make things more understandable, IMO.

I met Barbas. Apparently he's invincible and every enemy will always attack him. He will follow me around forever until I return him to his owner.

And nope, not done the guild stuff yet! But AWESOME TREASURE FOR KILLING FREY!

I just want to express what a pain in the ### the boss in the Staff of the Magus quest for the Mages' Guild is. Even with Lydia by my side I can't get him below abou 65% health before he fries my ###. :hot:
He worked me over several times when I fought him up close. Finally I went to the top and fought him from where the mage guys imprisoning him are. He never did come up to get me. I did put down a rune along the way up there so that may have kept him out, or he might now be that smart. From up top, it was basically an extended game of stick my head out shoot, repeat, heal, shoot, etc. He does have a sweet piece of gear that makes it worth while as well. Also, this advice is all probably useless if you aren't playing someone that has good ranged abilities...
Funny... I couldn't beat him until I got in close. After he killed me for about the 87th time, I charged in and just kept blasting away with my dual-cast lightning bolts that stun, and downed potions as needed. He dropped pretty quickly once I figured that out. That mask is sweet, especially when coupled with the archmage robes you get.

Finally got rid of that dog Barbas. Annoying *******.

Now on the whispering door quest in whiterun. Anyone done this?

Got the ebony blade, but don't think I'll ever use it. Most overpowered weapon in the game. I just spent an hour slaughtering guards in various cities, hardly a scratch. Fun but I didn't save the game.
