General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (2 Viewers)

that murder quest was buggy for me (360). I couldn't get it to recognize that I was completing one of the basic steps. It just worked eventually.
I'm on the 360 as well. How did it "eventually" work? Just one time you entered the city and it kicked in?
The group was there for me all along, but me walking up didn't trigger the next sequence. Go do some other quests & come back to it. I put it on the shelf for a while and when I came back to it again it "just worked" without me doing anything different than I had been. I don't really have any good advice , just commenting to let you know it may be flaky.
Thanks:
Did you have to visit the cemetery at a specific time of night? Also, is it the one next to the market area/blacksmith, or is there a different area you need to go to? I've been going to the location by the market area - maybe that's my problem
I don't remember, sorry. I was just going by waypoints.

Who has done the Dawnstar Museum quest? Is it any good? I've been avoiding certain areas, leaving them for playthru two. But now that I want to get a few more level ups, I'm tired of just dugeon diving and want some fun stuff to do. Leveling up is starting to seem to much like a chore right now.
Yeah, quest line is ok, you have to gather the pieces of Mehrunes Razor and then meet up with the guy at the satute of Mehrunes Dagon. Once there you are faced with the decision of giving the dagger to the museum curator, or kill him and keep it for yourself. The dagger itself looks sweet, does decent damage and has a chance at an "auto-kill". After the encounter a surprise happens...

Mehrunes sends 2 Daedra to try and kill you, also when you go inside the monument there are followers of Mehrunes that try and attack you too... its worth going inside for all the swag inside of there

Good quest. Lots of loot to be had. Valuable loot.

I started a new character for the "Once you die, you die" challenge.

I made a cat. Planning on specializing in Sneak, Archery, & Alchemy (for poisons and skill boosts). The plan is to -

1. Rob Riverwood blind at night for a base of loot and potions

2. Do the Golden Claw Quest

3. Go to Whiterun for access to Lydia, Shouts, and better spells from the court wizard

4. Then head to Riften to join the Thieves Guild.

If I make it out of the first dragon fight alive I'll be pretty happy.

Will update.

ETA: I'm also staying clear of smithing for awhile, as I don't want to level up like crazy without solid skills to face tougher enemies.

This is pretty much what I've done with my 'Jiit except I died upwards of 40 times getting to Riften. Just got the game Sunday though and I get sloppy at times. First dragon fight was easy I thought...I think Lydia actually did most of the damage for me. Good luck!

thinking about starting a new character under nethack rules (you die you start over, and no loading previous saves to fix the bad/crazy thing that happened)
Interesting. I'm going to do this with my fourth character. I'm thinking a sneaky thief / illusion & conjuration mage combo is the way to go. There's no way you could last as a straight mage. Maybe as a tank, but I could see bumbling into a group of 5 bandits and getting swarmed to death.
I'm going through as a straight mage this time through. No weapons at all.

Is there a reason you dont just go to the Whiterun stables and take the carriage to Riften?

Never saw a carraige until I got to Riften, so I didn't know they existed. I don't recall them from Oblivion. Someone else mentioned it in here as well but I was already well on my way.

Yes, that's a good one. Really, all of the daedric quests are fun.

I finally got to experience my first "dragon fight that started out as him attacking something else" last night!

Came out of a dungeon crawl and saw a dragon just to the east. Thought he was coming for me since he was so low in the sky but he just kept on going and started spittin' fire. I ran over the ridge to see what was up and there he was, locked into it with a Giant. It only took me about four arrows to bring down the dragon, but then that dang Giant decided I was no buddy of his (even though I just whooped up on the dragon for him) and was on me in about two strides. The fight with the Giant, while not very long, was definitely harder than the dragon, but in the end he was pushing daisies and I had me a 2 for 1 deal.

It's about time - after all of the crazy stories I've seen on here I got one for myself. I still haven't had the 10 creature battle royale that some of you have, but I figure they're coming. Can't wait... :banned:

Just got an XBOX 360 and am looking for my first non-Kinect game. I haven't had a video game system in over 10 years, but when I used to play I preferred games like Final Fantasy and whatnot. Will I be lost with this if I haven't played the previous Elder Scrolls games, or should I should I go for it? Or just get Madden?

I hadn't played video games in years and never played any of the previous games but I am totally hooked on this now. I haven't felt like I'm missing anything because I didn't play the earlier games. On the other hand, if you like hanging out with your family and getting things done around the house you may want to get Madden instead.

I havent played an RPG since Final Fantasy 7. Before this I only owned and played one game--COD. Like any game it takes time to get used to and if you have any questions there's a ton of places to get answers..especially in thie thread. I didnt feel like I missed anything with this game either. And BTW...I havent played COD in like 20 days because of this game

There's a wagon at the Stable outside of each city that can be used to transport you to any other major city for a little coin. The one at Whiterun you walk past on your way to the gate.

I would probably have never figured that out without reading this thread. Wish I had known about the drop the soul gem thing when I enchanted my followers bow and ending up with 50 lesser souls in gems ranging from common to black.

In my journal the quest never updated past "investigate the crime scene", but when I walked up to the door of Hejerim I got a quest update to investigate that house. One of the shattershield women will have a key to Hejerim. I managed to get it from Tova just by asking her about it, so I just walked in and searched out some evidence on the butcher, and visited the Jarl's assistant as if I'd been doing the quest all along. Alternatively, I think you could probably pickpocket the key and have the same result.

found an interesting glitch, if you ever come across any enchanted dwemer items such as "muffle darvin boots" you will eventually receive a letter from Calcemo in Markarth, who will offer to buy them off you. You can actually disenchant the item and still collect the reward from him. I did this and still was able to cash in. I'd save before doing this tho, just in case it was just my ps3 ;)

Do not get Madden. Madden 12 was hands down the WORST version of the game I've ever had. Skyrim works very well as a stand alone game. Definitely get it if you like RPGs. There's nothing even close as good.

Are you effing kidding me??!?! I HAVE come across that weapon and never knew what the hell it did! Damn it, and thanks for the info lol.Now I have to try and find it again!
Make sure you reads Hawk's post above. Sounds like he got it right and I had it wrong. Or Matthias. One of them knows what they are talking about! I was just going from memory.
That's the weapon I saw..I just didnt know what it was or even how I would use it so I just passed on it. At least I know what to look for now though. Even if I saw it at this point there's nothing I can do since I only have $50 gold left. I've been buying every ingrediant I can get my hands on...I want to raise my Alchemy level and I'm tired of buying poitions so I'll hopefully kill two birds with one stone.
And what happens when I roll back into Whiterun? You guessed it, a weapon with the Banashment enchantment for the ripe price of $6,600+ gold! How much do I have? 2k. Unbelievable. Do the shop owners inventory change daily?

If you carry a #### load of health potions you could pull this off I think
Going to start a new character - tank - under nethack rules.I'll bump this specific post if anything interesting happens - like say, death.

No sneaking, no stealing, no murders. I'll walk up to everyone and only fight in self defense.

I'm trying to find ANYTHING with paralysis. So far I am 0 'fer. I'll keep looking, but yea, I'm hoping the shop inventories change regularly.Edit: The wiki says "Items containing this enchantment can be randomly acquired in dungeons." So I may be wasting my time looking at merchant's inventories.

By investigate the crime scene, it meant follow the blood trail from the scene, which was referenced several times. You follow it to that house.

Just saw a video about:

the Krosis mask. This has 3 enchantments on it, when you or if you dis-enchant it do you get all 3? Also, is there a quest you have to do to get it?
TIA

I don't believe that you can disenchant those.

At Level 48 and just found this enchantment on a glass sword. It's now known and it's time to craft my final bow, I have 6 daedric hearts now and I think it's time to do some alchemy leveling. :excited:

The following items use this effect. You can learn how to enchant custom items with Paralyze if you find one of the following items and disenchant it: All weapons of Immobilizing All weapons of Petrifying All weapons of StunningSo now I know what I am looking for. I think I was actually looking for a weapon with a Paralyze enchantment, and it doesn't really exist.

Funny thing with my character I don't get these cut scenes, the downfall of being a strictly sneak archer. :kicksrock: It would be sweet if they would have come up with a cutscene where the camera would ride on the arrow on the kill shot.

opted to kill Astrid upon first meeting this time through. Got the quest to go clear out the DB home. I figured them being professional assassins and all that this was going to be really tough.

Blorc smash all on first try with little damage taken. :gang1:

I got one or two early, when my bow was weak. At that point, I would rush in when a dragon landed, using my sword in my right hand and the flame spell in my left. So at least I did get to experience it once or twice. Just load up your sword and go fight a weak dragon like the one at Shearpoint or something. May take a few tries, but you'll get it sooner or later.

Hmm, ok. I guess I am looking for one of four enchantments then. Four is better than three, so I'll take it! Still wonder if I have any shot finding it through a merchant though. I really don't want to do a bunch of dungeon diving hoping to stumble on one. Guess I should double check my weapons chest now that I know about the other options. I may actually have one and not even realize it.Edit: What's your enchanting level? I'm at 100%, so wondering what I may get if I find it.

I am at 100 enchanting and when I checked the length of the enchantment it was just at the 100 level with no enhancements.I can't remember if it was at the end of the Companions quest that I found it or if it was part of the Pieces of the Past quest, but I just found it last night.

ya pretty sure the dragon has to be weak to do it, since I never got it until I used
dragonren
first. I was using only arrows too until I got that shout.

noob alert - Just started playing again (still have hole in roof  ) anyway YES I'm only at the village.

How many swords should I carry - I have like 20.

Can I leave some crap at this first village?

Any order to do the quest? Like should I do the main on or go get the gold dragon etc?

Do I load a perk? :bag: :noob:

Any comments on the houses? I know Solitude is huge but kind of sucks, storage-wise. And Markarth would be cool but it's so dang far away... :nerd:
I just bought the Markarth house, so far I think its the best house out of Whiterun, Solitude and Riften, it has
a bunch of rooms, separate alchemy and enchantment rooms, plenty of storage including three bookcases, and glass display cases for a few weapons. The other thing I like about it is it also has a smelter in the same city unlike Solidtude and Riften. So you actually can create and enhance anything here

I am at 100 enchanting and when I checked the length of the enchantment it was just at the 100 level with no enhancements.I can't remember if it was at the end of the Companions quest that I found it or if it was part of the Pieces of the Past quest, but I just found it last night.
you get a mace of paralysis towards the last stages of the thieve guild quest, think its like 5 secs
When you say last stages, you mean after you have the Skeleton Key? Because once I got the key, I quit moving forward on that quest path and am having no luck finding one of these. I made my armor set today, and I love it. Once I used a necklace of smithing plus a smithing potion, my light Dragonscale armor had a rating of 588, so I didn't even have to use any light armor enchantments since that is already over the cap. When I break out the shield, it's over 700. But I am holding off making my dual enchanted weapons until I get paralyze. I really want it on my bow.
