For those who have finished the main quest, some questions:

when i was sent back to the throat of the world, there were about a half dozen dragons flying around. Should i have attacked them? i tried dragonrend, pissed them off something fierce, and then just got the #### outta there

- Did you immediately start a new character?- If not, what did you stick around for?- Any recommended post-dragonslayer quests you recommend. Not really looking for the side quests. Maybe some things that are more interesting after having some of the post main quest shouts, weapons, etc

I am ignoring the main quest so far because the side quests and faction quests are so much more fun for me. But even if I did the main quest first I would continue playing as there are a ton of trophy's you can't get by just doing the main quest.

You have to go to Reachwater Rock and have it forged together. You have to fight the 3 brothers again. Once you defeat the third one, the arch mage they killed blasts their ghosts and reforges the amulet into one piece for you.

I started a new character immediately (complete contrast to my "good guy" character".)I stuck with new character until all "evil" achievements for 360 were claimed, now back onto the character that I finished the main quest with to get other achievements.Will start a 3rd character to do mage's guild questline after all other main achievements reached.

OK, so I figure last night was as good a time as any to start smithing. I spent about 6k on ingots and leather strips, made about 75 daggers and raised a bit, but it was a HUGE financial loss. I think I made a whopping 500 gold. Clearly Im doing this wrong.

The $ is in jewelery.Basically you get the alteration spell.Buy up iron ore whenever you can at 5 gold or whatever it sells at.Cast alteration spell turning it to silver oreCast alteration spell turning it to gold oreCast alteration spell turning next piece to silver ore.Repeat.When done getting Gold Ore, Smelt Ingots, then create rings.-QG

I stuck around. I don't play nearly as much now. When I do, I just pick up little quests like I did at the beginning of the game. For instance, right now I am doing all the stuff in Solitude. I visited an Orc camp and did some stuff there. I visit whatever spots I discovered but didn't visit. Basically, I wasn't going to do that, but decided I'm really not interested in starting another character right now.Speaking of Solitude:

Ugh, the Shoegrath quest is painful. I am just not in to these outside-the-game kind of things. Wish I hadn't started this one. I will likely just read the wiki so I can finish it as quickly as possible.

I've been playing more and more other games and going back to Skyrim less and less, so I can understand where you are coming from. I still fire it up here and there, and am certainly not going to complain about getting 150 hours out of it. But I think I was enjoying it more when I didn't know all the tips and tricks and was just wandering and floundering.Oh, I should add, I stayed interested longer than I did with Fallout: New Vegas. But that may be because I played the living crap out of Fallout 3. So it may have just been a case of MOTS with that one.

The picture just started flickering in and out and going out at times on my plasma/360 combo. Since the connection is tight on the cables, I'm guessing it's either a bad cable or perhaps the back of the 360 is dusty & needs some vacuuming out? FWIW my 360 is the older white one and doesn't have an HDMI connection, so I'm using the funky 360 connector on one end and RCAs on the other to hook into the tv.

I finished the Civil War after the MQ and it pretty much screwed up everything, Jarls are all over the place, old Markoff ones are in Windhelm but still dialogue like they are in Markoff, I have one just standing in the middle of the court yard in Windhelm through out the night, pretty sad soul. a bunch of the unfinished side quests do not trigger dialogue anymore, not sure if its because of the order I did the MQ and the Civil War...

PS3 wise, didn't notice a difference between Skyrim and the Fallout 3 engine, but game play included the VATS system which is a precision add on to the controls in Skyrim. Skyrim and Fallout 3 used different game engines. Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas used the game engine developed for Oblivion. Game engine is not the same thing as game play/game mechanics( which is what you are referring to in your post). See the link I provided above.

I recall a PC game several years back that was built using a D20 system but I never played it... maybe someone else knows of that/can help you out.

Dragon Age uses a similar system, but with everything in 1% increments instead of 5%. It's also in the running for the best fantasy RPG ever IMO. Very good storyline, plus it doesn't crash every 15 minutes.Neverwinter Nights uses a straight D20 rules IIRC.

I am thinking this will be like Oblivion for me. I made some mistakes early on with perks and other choices this time. So I'll probably get to a point and get frustrated because I don't feel like I am progressing the way I want. Then I'll start a new character, take advantage of what I've learned, be much better at it from the jump and play it all the way through.

Not for me. Got through the first section and came out on the spiral staircase looking thing. I know you were expected to fight through multiple levels to get to the bottom, I could tell by the layout. But I looked down, saw where I was eventually going to end up, fired up the Ethereal Form shout, and jumped all the way to the bottom. Followed the quest arrow through the giant glowey mushrooms area and boom, done.

The transcribe the lexicon one, retrieve the elder scroll and pick 36 red nirnroots. The lexicon and elder scrolls are the two I did, both of which are part of the main quest.
