General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (6 Viewers)

For those who have finished the main quest, some questions:

when i was sent back to the throat of the world, there were about a half dozen dragons flying around. Should i have attacked them? i tried dragonrend, pissed them off something fierce, and then just got the #### outta there
- Did you immediately start a new character?- If not, what did you stick around for?- Any recommended post-dragonslayer quests you recommend. Not really looking for the side quests. Maybe some things that are more interesting after having some of the post main quest shouts, weapons, etc

I am ignoring the main quest so far because the side quests and faction quests are so much more fun for me. But even if I did the main quest first I would continue playing as there are a ton of trophy's you can't get by just doing the main quest.

Alduins bane question

while fighting him I got him down on the ground and parthaax said to finish him while he was weakened. I was hammering away with dragon bane but apparently to little or no effect. The quest completed and said to talk to parthaax or ansenir. But alduin is still flying around. Also all this happened at 2:00 am so I might have missed a few things. Did ,I screw up or am I not supposed to kill him?
This game has gotten crazy addictive. There is so much crazy crap you would never even know about.

Also, question about gauldir's amulet quest

looks like I have all three pieces but there were no further instructions on how to complete the quest and it still shows up in my active quests. Is there something besides collecting the fragments I need to do or is this possibly a patch issue?

On the amulet:
You have to go to Reachwater Rock and have it forged together. You have to fight the 3 brothers again. Once you defeat the third one, the arch mage they killed blasts their ghosts and reforges the amulet into one piece for you.

Got challenged to a mage duel. Someone forgot to mention to Mjoll it's supposed to one on one. She's protective what can I say? Anyway that's the first time for that. I am assuming that it has something to do with being near the end of the College quests.

I started a new character immediately (complete contrast to my "good guy" character".)I stuck with new character until all "evil" achievements for 360 were claimed, now back onto the character that I finished the main quest with to get other achievements. Will start a 3rd character to do mage's guild questline after all other main achievements reached.

OK, so I figure last night was as good a time as any to start smithing. I spent about 6k on ingots and leather strips, made about 75 daggers and raised a bit, but it was a HUGE financial loss. I think I made a whopping 500 gold. Clearly Im doing this wrong.
The $ is in jewelery.Basically you get the alteration spell.Buy up iron ore whenever you can at 5 gold or whatever it sells at.Cast alteration spell turning it to silver oreCast alteration spell turning it to gold oreCast alteration spell turning next piece to silver ore.Repeat.When done getting Gold Ore, Smelt Ingots, then create rings.-QG

I stuck around. I don't play nearly as much now. When I do, I just pick up little quests like I did at the beginning of the game. For instance, right now I am doing all the stuff in Solitude. I visited an Orc camp and did some stuff there. I visit whatever spots I discovered but didn't visit. Basically, I wasn't going to do that, but decided I'm really not interested in starting another character right now.Speaking of Solitude:
Ugh, the Shoegrath quest is painful. I am just not in to these outside-the-game kind of things. Wish I hadn't started this one. I will likely just read the wiki so I can finish it as quickly as possible.

I think I'm bored with this. Back to wandering Capitol Wasteland. Would love for them to do a Fallout New York with some of the features they put in Skyrim.

I've been playing more and more other games and going back to Skyrim less and less, so I can understand where you are coming from. I still fire it up here and there, and am certainly not going to complain about getting 150 hours out of it. But I think I was enjoying it more when I didn't know all the tips and tricks and was just wandering and floundering.Oh, I should add, I stayed interested longer than I did with Fallout: New Vegas. But that may be because I played the living crap out of Fallout 3. So it may have just been a case of MOTS with that one.

The picture just started flickering in and out and going out at times on my plasma/360 combo. Since the connection is tight on the cables, I'm guessing it's either a bad cable or perhaps the back of the 360 is dusty & needs some vacuuming out? FWIW my 360 is the older white one and doesn't have an HDMI connection, so I'm using the funky 360 connector on one end and RCAs on the other to hook into the tv.

The game engine for Skyrim will be used for the next Fallout game (Fallout 4?)
This will no doubt sound like a dumb question, but Skyrim is my first platform game I've spent a lot of time with in years. Does this news mean that Fallout 4 will play the same way Skyrim does? Meaning if I'm comfortable with the fighting and navigating in Skyrim, I will be comfortable doing the same types of experiences in Fallout 4?

I finished the Civil War after the MQ and it pretty much screwed up everything, Jarls are all over the place, old Markoff ones are in Windhelm but still dialogue like they are in Markoff, I have one just standing in the middle of the court yard in Windhelm through out the night, pretty sad soul. a bunch of the unfinished side quests do not trigger dialogue anymore, not sure if its because of the order I did the MQ and the Civil War...

Not specifically. A lot will depend on the designers and their choices. Wiki has a decent explanation of game engines that might be worth a quick readhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_engine

Main quest question for you:
Did you kill Paarthunnax (the dragon)? If you do, you can start to recruit members (followers) to join the Blades...

PS3 wise, didn't notice a difference between Skyrim and the Fallout 3 engine, but game play included the VATS system which is a precision add on to the controls in Skyrim. Forgot if FO3 has the same quick select menu for weapons, dont think so. Otherwise its the same feel, different setting/weapons.

Skyrim and Fallout 3 used different game engines. Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas used the game engine developed for Oblivion. Game engine is not the same thing as game play/game mechanics( which is what you are referring to in your post). See the link I provided above.

If I wanted to get a d&d quest character driven game, what should I get? And I have a Mac if that matters. I haven't played a computer game in ages and don't even own a gaming system. :bag:Thanks :nerd:
Help a brother out people...
I wish I could, This is the first console game I've played since PS2. I recall a PC game several years back that was built using a D20 system but I never played it... maybe someone else knows of that/can help you out.

I believe there's a few "What are you playing" video game threads that may be of more service to what you're looking for.BUT I think if you're into the RPG/action adventure thing that this game could be a good fit for you; its extremely in depth and will suck you in.

 and there's lots of Dragon Killing in this game. More caves than dungeons, though ;) -QG

Dragon Age uses a similar system, but with everything in 1% increments instead of 5%. It's also in the running for the best fantasy RPG ever IMO. Very good storyline, plus it doesn't crash every 15 minutes.Neverwinter Nights uses a straight D20 rules IIRC.

The "what are you playing" threads mostly just give titles. I am in noob territory, the last game I played was neverwinter nights, I need a little more than just a title. Thanks all

i'll throw my vote into this one. I was in the same boat, hadnt played a game in almost 10 years but this one had me hooked in 1 or 2 sessions

this is where im at. level 32 and just going thru the motions now finding excuses not to play. gonna play the MQ and move onto other games

I am thinking this will be like Oblivion for me. I made some mistakes early on with perks and other choices this time. So I'll probably get to a point and get frustrated because I don't feel like I am progressing the way I want. Then I'll start a new character, take advantage of what I've learned, be much better at it from the jump and play it all the way through.

Man this Labyrinthine dungeon crawl is friggin' way long. Seems like I have been in it for days.
Have you found Black Reach yet? That sucked.
Not for me. Got through the first section and came out on the spiral staircase looking thing. I know you were expected to fight through multiple levels to get to the bottom, I could tell by the layout. But I looked down, saw where I was eventually going to end up, fired up the Ethereal Form shout, and jumped all the way to the bottom. Followed the quest arrow through the giant glowey mushrooms area and boom, done.

I did the bare minimum quest related things in there and never explored it any further. Just didn't like it.

No I haven't been there but I googled it. 4 sq miles? At the rate I go that could take me a week.
I went back and did the Crimson Nirnroot search, ugh....never again.
I went back and got like 6 of them. Said f this and bailed. Would never go back there.

There might be an achievement but I am not 100%, I know there are 3 quests that require you to go there though.

Really? I just did the one. I think for the main quest? I sure as heck didn't go there searching for any dang roots.
The transcribe the lexicon one, retrieve the elder scroll and pick 36 red nirnroots. The lexicon and elder scrolls are the two I did, both of which are part of the main quest.
