General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (4 Viewers)

Finally got smithing up to 100 and enchanting is in the 90s so when that hits 100 I can double enchant items for the first time.  So I THINK if I craft/improve a Daedric bow while wearing smith enhanced clothing and drinking a smithing potion - and then enchant the bow with 2 spells while drinking an enchanting potion, I'll probably be maxed out on the bow damage.  My current one does over 300 damage if I fight while wearing all four archery buffed apparel (ring, necklace, hat, gloves). I always wear the ring and necklace but switch the hat and gloves when a dragon shows up. So I've two-shot a dragon but I'm also facing dragons that do the chomp and rag doll bit on me.

You guys are really far ahead of me. I am pretty happy though. I finally got my conjuration high enough to use the bound bow. So with that, atronachs and the bound sword I am really using the heck out of conjuration. Atronachs are so useful I hate I never messed with them before. Destruction is coming along nicely. I killed a master vampire and got vampire armor that had all the same enchantments as the destruction robe you are given plus a fairly high armor rating and its light armor.

I am working the mage college guests. Just about to the end as I am headed to Labrynthian to get the staff. I hate Arcane.

Trying something different for me. Usually play straight two handed melee. This time trying conjuration WITH two handed. Leveling up both hardcore. I know some guys like to sit back and nail enemies with arrows from a distance while your buddies do the heavy lifting, but I just got so excited about the thought of me teaming up with twin dremora lords and dismantling everyone in our path, while I sit back and take uncontested power swings with my warhammer to the enemies back.

since this thread has been resurrected, I decided to fire up the game with a new character. I created a red haired dude named Kvothe (from the Kingkiller Chronicles). I go with a sword/axe in my right hand and magic in my left (mostly destruction, but may dabble with conjuration). if anyone has read the books, I'm trying to RPG as Kvothe...he's an honorable dude, but not afraid to sneak & steal if he absolutely needs to. only about 10 hours in, but going to take on the Mage college soon to turn up my magic. I've never really played with a character who uses magic too much, so at first it was hard not to instinctively try to block when I'm getting wailed on. but I think I've got the hang of it now, when they get too close, I just take a few steps back and flame on!

Man this board kind of sucks on phones.

Anyway I had forgotten how tough these dwarven dungeons can be. Got killed looking for Magnus staff. Luckily I wasn't too far in. But was out of time. Try to get back later this evening.
I forgot how looooong those dwemer dungeons are, I get lost in those places way more than any other dungeon type.

I am adventuring from Riften to Solitude and completing various quests along the way. I am now a level 35 and my archery and sneak/lockpick skills are deadly. I am leveling naturally and love this character build. I am also steadily leveling up my alchemy and will soon be able to concoct deadly poisons for the tips of arrows and the blades of my daggers.

I am currently heavily involved with the Thieves Guild and my contact in Solitude is waiting for me to arrive as I complete the quest title The Dainty Sload. On the main quest I am currently on "The Throat of the World" and am in no rush to compete that quest line.

I also stared Dawn Guard and am involved with them as a Vampire Hunter. My Archery skills have become talked about in all four corners of Skyrim and my reputation precedes me as a cunning thief and deadly archer. I am known for short talk and quick deaths. Word of this reached the Dawnguard and I was recruited to help rid Skyrim of the undead. I am now searching for Sorine Jurard and Gunmar. As I travel across the land to Solitude I shall seek them out to join the Dawnguard cause. My beautiful wife has not seen nor heard from me in 2 weeks and I shall return for a brief visit with her in our home in Whiterun. A hot bath and a few evenings of her scent and love will help heal some battle wounds. It will be nice to sleep in my own bed with her and relax for a few days before setting out again for another 2-3 weeks of adventures and important tasks. I am tending to side with the Empire only because of the Nords well known hate of my people. Being a Wood Elf in a land that is intolerant of us and other races makes my blood boil. Getting behind and supporting a scum like Ulfric Stormcloak is not the way I am wired. Quite frankly I don't like the Empire either. I may keep to myself and continue my destiny as a Dragonborn and pursue my goal of being the leader of both the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood. Killing and collecting spoils is my business and business is still quite good.

I lost my beautiful horse Melky. But my new one has held up for some time. I have heard of this legendary sire named Shadowmire. I must seek out this horse and make him my own one day.

My beautiful home in Solitude name Silltian Manor is filling up rapidly with all kinds of weapons, armor and jewels. My skills are unmatched in Skyrim and I am getting stronger day by day learning more shouts and discovering my unique Dragonborn skills.

I am Serratus Wood Elf Archer/Thief and the future guild-master of The Thieves Guild.

This game is taking over my life.  I considered calling out of work to play today while my wife was off giving a deposition, but thought better of it.  I'm probably 10-12 hours deep already and just started playing on Friday.

Looks like my Breton (Death Incontinent) is shaping up to be something of a Battlemage/Necromancer (if those are even the right terms).  Lots of Conjuration and Destruction thus far, lots of 1-2 handed, not as much archery/sneak kills.  I haven't really figured out how to make the Fury/Frenzy stuff work yet, I'm always seen before I cast and they just attack me anyway.  I just started learning enchanting and created the Ring of Incurable Herpes and Amulet of Scrotal Elephantitis.  My wife caught a glimpse of the screen and looked at me like she regretted ever letting me get my penis within 5 feet of her.

It does take over your life. You will find yourself day dreaming about adventuring.......also this will happen too:

I was walking the other day with my son outside and noticed some plants and said "hey that looks like Deathbell and that looks like Thistle.

Yeah it's ####### ridiculous.

Skycrack is amazing.

There is what has to be a lavender plant bed around the sign that faces the street at my office.  I don't know for sure, but I was clicking imaginary X to harvest it as I pulled into the parking lot this morning.

Welcome aboard!

As far as the bolded goes, are you crouching when casting them?  Also, I think it's the Illusion tree, but there is a perk to make the spell casting silent so you can sneak up on a mo fo.

Yep, mine was seeing Blue Mountain Flowers all over the place on the drive to work.   Need to rip the wings off the Blue Butterflies next!

BTW, I can't be the only one that gets bored while out wandering/hunting and takes down the butterflies and Luna Moths with arrows, right?

Quiet Casting, requires Illusion 50. Couple that with Invisibility and you break the game. Avoid if you'd like things to remain challenging (if they even are).

Make all 4 items that will hold Fortify Alchemy. Wear them and make a couple Fortify Enchantment potions.

Drink a potion and make new, even better Fortify Alchemy gear.  Wear it and use it to make even better Fortify Enchantment potions.

Repeat that like 2 or 3 times and you'll max out and the bow will be much better.  Also, do that before making your smith gear.

Me when I go to the garden:  Ooh!  Butterflies!

Glad to see I am not the only one that levels up the Alchemy.  I like it, and it always seems to become my main source of income at the start.  Get a bunch of Blue Butterflies and Blue Mountain Flowers, or when I have a ton of Salt I head west and grab a ton of Deathbells.  I also have a little garden by the house that I have a couple things growing that I use the most.

Damn wtf I was just come back from High Hrothgar for the first time (so like level 9) and am leaving Ivarstead comimg back across the bridge. Out of nowhere deep in the forest I see a red enemy dot on my compass. Nothing's there, walk a little deeper in when suddenly 2 death hounds charge at me and behind them is a f###en Master Vampire hurling fireballs at me, prolly like 4-5x my level. I got 3 hit by a fireball and 2 hound bites and was dead.

I tried to fend them off another 5-6 times before I realized I just left a town, and could probably lure them back into the town where the guards could take care of them. That worked perfectly and finally was able to leave the town lol.

Bound sword is so much fun. It's interesting to watch the strength of the sword grow with your conjuration and one handed skills. It's the best way to play a Jedi character - along with strong illusion I think. "These are not the droids you are looking for" and by that I mean "You two fight each other while I watch"

I'm doing zero alchemy this character - but I do buy smithing and enchanting potions from time to time. It does have an impact.

So I am now Arch Mage and level 18. Don't know why but I love to get that title. Wish there was still a fighters guild. One of my favorite things is to be head of both. Kind of goes with the whole Battle Mage thing. Also now thane of 3 cities. Got my conjure and archery to 50. Got my sneak to 50 as well. So now sneak attacks with bows do 3 times damage and bows have a higher chance to crit. And I have destruction in the upper 40s. Starting to get access to some cooler spells. Had to call it a night though as I have to work tomorrow. I think I'll get back to the main story Thursday. I need to go see the boys on the mountain. I am going to try to wrap that up in one days session.

I did have a thought earlier. Here I am the Dragonborn. Thane of all I survery. Archmage. All that. When I marry and the wife sets up a store that place should rock. Who wouldn't want to shop at the store run by the wife of the most famous non-ruler in Skyrim? I'm like MJ. My name should sell stuff and lots of it. Bethesda should adjust sales to your fame. The bigger you are the more money the store makes. Now that would be an interesting mod.

The bound weapons are my new favorite thing. Never really got into them before. But the bound bow with never ending daedric arrows is awesome. I am still hanging on to actual bows and swords but as I get more confident I'll stop doing that.

I did a crap ton of alchemy in the other games. Just not into it anymore. I do need to do some though. I have recipes so I don't have to buy everything but gold really isn't an issue at this point.

So that's where its hiding. Just not doing illusion so I guess I'll miss that one.

This is odd watching a bunch of people just discover Skyrim right now. Very similar to when I decided to finally start playing WoW a couple fo years ago. A good mixture of "hey, cool" and "what took you so long?".

Last night the wife and I were out shopping. I walked away and snuck up right behind her, took her keys and tweezers out of her purse. I then got a little greedy and tried to take the diamond ring off her finger, busted.

So, did you pay the mall cop to look the other way, pay the bounty, or go to mall jail?

I sliced everyones throat that was around me and ran. Tried casting a firebolt but nothing happened. My guess is someone was casting Arcane Disruption which is BS since its a mod that I uninstalled. Should not have  been available.

I put in a.couple.hundred hours the first time I played. It's fascinating to me all the stuff I missed. I have seen a lot of things I never saw the first time through. It really feels almost like.playing it for the first time.

Oh and after ignominious debut against a death Lord earlier Lydia and I wiped the floor with the one in Labrythian.

You should look at some of the follower mods and ditch Lydia. Sooo many awesome ones out there, plus their dialog is so much better than her BS.

I had heard all about it a while back but I really don't play many video games these days and I still had (actually still have) about 5-6 PS3 games I hadn't even opened yet.  I always felt like I needed to get through those before I bought anything new and I just never really got around to it.  I finally played/finished Arkham Asylum about a month ago.

The advent of VR compelled me to finally drop the coin for a PS4, so I figured I should get one game that I could play w/o the VR headset.  I chose Skyrim.  This may have been a mistake because the VR headset is now collecting dust.

"Merchandising, merchandising, where the real money from the movie is made! Dragonborn-the T-shirt, Dragonborn-the Coloring Book, Dragonborn-the Lunch box, Dragonborn-the Breakfast Cereal, Dragonborn-the Flame Thrower."

Interesting I didn't find that at all, as long as you give them weapons at your level it should be pretty similar.
I usually let them use the weapons and gear they come with. I like Serana the best she won't die and can take some damage before she loses arrgo  but it you underestimate the fight it can cost you.

I usually only travel with Mjoll (and we're usually married).  I toss her my old gear when I upgrade or if I'm powerful enough make her some wikked awesome gear.  Eventually that becomes too powerful and I ditch having a sidekick and roam Skyrim alone.
