It was this or another band that I'd picked a bunch, so I went went this. I tend to like the new categories, because my thinking is sort of a "Best of..." at that point, rather than scrambling for songs.

I wish I'd remembered that you specifically recommended 17-26 on Faction. I put it on shuffle, but did hear some of these, now that I look at the list. The song from Semantics was a standout for me, and I also liked the one from Touche Amore. I am familiar with ####ed Up and Chicago's (suburbs') own Alkaline Trio, but liked those two songs as well. Another standout to me was the Dry Cleaning song - great name for a band, btw.rockaction said:

The other one we listened to on the trip over was the Ego Meets the Dove, and I enjoyed that one a lot, too. I think I only heard two Neil Young solo songs, though.
I expected more. Standouts for me that I hadn't heard before were the one from Ruthie Foster, the demo of "Birds," and a bunch more I've now forgotten.

I wanted a baseball song for my 500th pick, to dedicate it to my Dad. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, many of my childhood memories with my Dad involve baseball. We had season tickets for the Reds, and our summer vacations were chosen 100% based on where we could (1) go to a baseball park we hadn't been to, and (2) ride a rollercoaster we hadn't been on.

I think noise and art rock -- mixed with pop-punk sensibilities -- have had such a huge influence on punk over the years that, yeah, you're hearing it right. There are downright textured and pretty parts in these songs. The screamed vocals are pretty traditionally hardcore punk rather than UK, NY, or early LA punk. I think those four influences (art, noise, screaming, and pop sensibilities) have shaped the genre as of late.
I think my specificity was just what I dug and a potential grabber so that one was drawn into the essence of it. But you'd still get a real feel for the station if you put in on shuffle, IMO.

I listened to the drums playlist today. I really liked it. I don’t think I’ve appreciated drummers enough.
No offense meant to those who drafted them - as I surely understand why they’re included but the two worst songs are Moby **** and YYZ, the drum solos. I thing drums are proudly a rhythm instrument and listening to them in the context of a song is far more interesting.

No, but I see what they meant about notifications in that thread, though. The header just stays through the notifications, and they're impossible to get to. I don't really go in and out of the site. I open multiple tabs in my browser to avoid that.

Well, I put a bunch on other playlists and some folks may have hesitated to add more to Ego/Dove if it's perceived that that's "my thing." But you and Doc Oc did put some Neil solo stuff on there. For that playlist I tried to stick to Neil songs that had some sort of CSNY connection.The other one we listened to on the trip over was the Ego Meets the Dove, and I enjoyed that one a lot, too. I disagree about YYZ because the studio version at least is mostly a full-band instrumental. Moby ****, though, yeah. I would skip it when listening to The Song Remains the Same or Zep bootlegs.

Yes, I have drafted two versions of the same song on consecutive days. This won a Grammy in 2000 -- Neil himself had not won one up to that point. They changed "and I felt like getting high" to "and I felt like I could cry" because drug references weren't going to fly with the country audience in 1999.
B. Wrecking Ball -- Emmylou Harris
The title track of Emmylou's 1995 album was her version of this Neil ballad from the Freedom album. The lyrics are flipped to be sung from the female perspective. Neil sang harmony on this version.
