Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (4 Viewers)

Maybe at some point we can bring back the old "genres" and start v2 playlists for these genres.

I have to admit playlists with songs about trains, plants, numbers or animal anatomy aren't all that interesting and sometimes make for difficult listens when you go from country to hip hop to death metal....

It's still fun to draft those songs I suppose, but I'm just not a huge fan of the gimmick categories and outside of a few recent ones like the vocal harmonies where stuck with mostly gimmick categories.

I suggested Soul Town II a couple of hundred rounds ago and it didn't get much support.  Maybe the time is ripe now

Sometimes it's nice to have a gimme category as an option for days when I don't have the energy to track down a song about brushing your teeth.
I’m not asking for them to be abolished- like I said it does make drafting fun. It’s just that we’ve got to a point that it will be all we have.

Hey, I’m in either way. I actually love this thing.

Soul Town II sounds great to me. Any way that we can keep people interested and involved sounds good. I hear what Dr. Octopus is saying and sort of agree. Any suggestions that aren't too ornate and I'm all for them. We could have a rotating redux genre category to go along with the others, we could promote some really quickly, etc. We could be more circumspect about the categories.

Anything, really. Just want to keep it fun and people involved in the selections. I can see where it might get tiring, too. I didn't really expect the redux to last this long. So any suggestions are welcome.

The "d" on my keyboard is sticking and won't really allow me to type freely, so if I sound weird or something, that's why. Everything is fine but the "d," which I have to slam down to get a reaction from.

Arn it.

I mean amn it.

I mean, you know what I mean...

Shellac is touring this fall
We had to change a planned hike in order to go to the show on Aug 31.  (We were spending the night in the north Cascades for an entry to the area on 9/1.) Better be worth it!  I knew nothing of their music but enjoyed the last one.  Their drummer is 🔥

Mr krista has us on the list as him +1.  Seemed a little ####ty that he didn’t name me.   :hot:

+1 is standard guest list terminology. Think of it as being part of a long tradition.

Staying home on such a beautiful day.

One of the first uses of sampling in one of the most sampled songs ever. No hyperbole there.

Nice call on Apache!
Thanks! I have a sampled/sampling list that spans decades from one of the drafts we did. It has the sampled recording in its entirety plus the sampling song. It's actually a really good playlist, IMO. Came out well, though I edited it along the way because there were some songs I was uncomfortable having on the list, but overall, it came out like I wanted. It's got the Amen Break, Apache, and other historically significant songs that have to do with sampling, though I'm sure I missed a bunch.

I will have to check that out. Great idea and I think I remember the draft you were cultivating that. I am going to draft some for the IP playlist today but will do so before I look at the playlist. Maybe I will find something interesting you hadn't thought of? Maybe not.

You know how when wikkid passed people said they would look for likes from him as sort of a seal of approval that they took to heart? I take comments like this from ilov80s and Uruk in much the same spirit. Awesome to hear.
Much appreciated. And so true about getting that like or positive response from Wikkid. It really did mean more, even if his taste was a bit idiosyncratic. He had his opinions, his values and he was loyal to them. One always felt smart when they found out Wikkid agreed with them on a movie or basketball player.

Ah, I just wrote a long response but it got deleted.

I remember how a wikkid affirmation would make one feel -- like one was part of the club. I'm just saying it to you guys because I appreciate the people in this thread and people should know how much I hold the people in this thread -- the regulars and the people that follow along -- in esteem. simey, k4, Eephus, Pip, you, Dr. Octopus, Mrs. R., scorchy, otb, Uruk, anyone who follows along and comments sincerely and thoughtfully. I love that.

That's kind of you and I appreciate it, but I ain't no wikkid. Of course, Tapestry never stopped me from getting laid either.

You know album what did? Parliament's Trombipulation. This was back in the day when you could stack LPs on your stereo. I had a lady friend over - I crushed on her hard in HS and we were maybe 2 years past getting our sheepskins. I had stacked the stereo with Quiet Storm type albums. Except, somehow, I didn't notice the Parliament album was in there. To say it killed the mood would be an understatement. By the time "Agony Of Defeet" played, she was leaving. I've hated this album ever since.

I always associate you, wikkid, and me with The Best Years of Our Lives and remember being happy to know you both loved it, too.
