There are 34 cases of someone taking a song on my list. Two are Suspect Device. Two are Cruel to Be Kind. One is Every Picture Tells a Story. Six are Valerie. Two are Rolling in the Deep. Four are Son of a Preacher Man. One is Showdown. Three are How Soon Is Now? Three are London Calling. Three are Baby Blue. The other seven are higher (Binky: lower) than #10 on my list.

Three Deja Votes tomorrow. One is a song making its countdown debut, one gets its second and third votes, and one gets its third and fourth votes.

In addition, we will have the first song to receive its seventh vote. As a reminder, the winning song in the US countdown ("Superstition") received a total of seven votes.
I welcome our new Verve overlords with open arms.

Because this is relevant (slightly!) to the thread and things discussed before (let's keep this cool) anybody tuning into Twitter would do well to search for "Albini, Steely Dan." Damn thing is making the rounds. It got all the way back to me, and I follow basically nobody on Twitter.

Hey nineteen!

Twenty-Two-Point Selections:

Pip’s Invitation:
Baby Blue -- Badfinger
worrierking: Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel
MAC_32: Zombie - The Cranberries
Yankee23Fan: Yesterday – The Beatles
Hawks64: Roxanne – Sting
jwb: Into The Mystic – Van Morrison
shuke: Starman – David Bowie
Mrs. Rannous: When The Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin
simsarge: Shooting Star - Bad Company
falguy: Sympathy For The Devil - The Rolling Stones
Ilov80s: Take Me Out – Franz Ferdinand
Chaz McNulty: Yellow – Coldplay
Zegras11: Help! - The Beatles
krista4: Rocket Man – Elton John

Minus the metal songs (sorry metal heads) definitely my favorite list so far. Honestly, if you had told me most of those songs above were ranked #1 I wouldn't have batted an eye. I look forward to listening to this in early April when I'm caught up.

Albini's rants are funny and his critiques are somewhat justified. I am an unapologetic Steely Dan fan. There are 10,000 other bands who I would dunk on before them, including many in each of the two threads we've enjoyed.

The "not bald guy" was pretty funny.

Wow, OH had read me the thread when Steve posted it (since I dislike Steely Dan). Last night he told me it had really blown up, but I figured he was exaggerating.

Not sure who mentioned Buffy the Vampire Slayer last night but there IS a connection to the main topic of this thread: Anthony Head, who played Rupert Giles, is the brother of Murray Head, the singer for “Superstar” and “One Night In Bangkok”.

The only song on today's list I don't know. I will probably make through today's unknown list :)

ditkaburgers:

I Took A Little Something – Version – Florrie

1921 is from Tommy. You may recognize it when you hear it.

This one is already taken, too.

Oh, just be Harley Quinn like you always were going to be and get it over with. ;)

In all seriousness, were Blossom or Buttercup from the Powerpuff Girls taken? Would that count?

I don't see Harley Quinn on the list, so I guess she's available. I'll have to read about her. Superheroes are not my forte.

Looks like Buttercup is taken, but Blossom is available due to a recent departure from the company. Maybe I could figure out a way to get the "Rocket Raccoon" or "Squirrel Girl" people fired.
Is Usagi Yojimbo available? Stan Sakai's site has all the details. It's one of the most beautifully drawn comics. The original artwork section is wonderful.

Yes, thank god for ditkaburgers giving us something to do!

No way!....I actually have an Usagi Yojimbo #1 (I think) comic in a box in my basement!

Don Quixote:

Back To Black - Amy Winehouse
(duplicate – third AND fourth votes today)
This one has been discussed a bit already, but piling on anyway…. based on my rankings here and in the US one (as well as my preliminary list for a potential catch-all), this one seems my favorite song of the 21st century by a fairly significant margin. (Hopefully not spoiling too much that the rest of my list is pre-2000).

I had some of the 60s girls groups in my top 10 in the US thread, and Back to Black has the vibes of that. Winehouse’s lyrics here are just incredible too — I enjoy her cover of Valerie, but probably not in my top 5 Winehouse songs because her songwriting is a large part of her draw to me.

I'm personally just a tad surprised by where The Who stands as of now - appears they will be moving into 2nd place in points. They were one of the groups I debated on for top 10 but didn't see them doing this well. I realize they've peaked but they seem like a good bet to stay top 10.

My way too late intro to Van Morrison continues - Days Like This

**heart**

And for the first time since we started I'm caught up **looks at today's calendar** Awwww, ****.
You could do quite a deep dive on him. He’s got a really deep catalog of great music from ballads to garage rock (which he may have damn near created). You can draw a pretty straight line from him to punk as well. Jim Morrison opened for Van’s band Them at the Whiskey. Jim watched him on stage and went on a long bender with Van. It’s said Jim learned a lot of his movies and persona from what Van was doing. Then a couple years later Iggy Pop saw The Doors in Ann Arbor and modeled his new new musical style and persona after Jim.

Somehow Forever Young became our "family song". My daughter bought me a picture where the top part looks like an album but the grooves are comprised of the song lyrics. Below that is our family name, and below that repeats the words "Proud. Dignified. True."

She a great gift giver.
Plus you live in the same home state as the songwriter, Minnesota.

I'm surprised that you're surprised because i figured they would be closer to 3 than 11. Originally I may have included them in the Big 4.
Same for me. Not surprised at all.

simey: How Deep Is Your Love - Bee Gees
Teenage Eephus was a dumbass for thinking this song sucked. It's absolutely beautiful.
I can't stand the Bee Gees. I like more testicles in my male singers. But this song is just lovely. It may be the only song of theirs that I like.

I'm sure it is my bias but I expected the following to be ahead of them - The Kinks, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Bowie and Elton John. That is 8 including the big 3 that I thought may finish ahead of them.

Agreed, in fact I want a list of drafters who didn't put the big 3 + The Who, Bowie and Elton on their list. So they can go on my own "special" list.
