My #2 favorite Sabbath song.
My #2 favorite Sabbath song.
I don't recall if Ozzy was played on the radio where I grew up in '81. Probly not.......but he's been in heavy rotation on every rock station I've ever listened to for a long time. Of course, I still listen to AM/FM radio, especially when driving.......I'm a technological dinosaurSo you've never listened to an FM rock station?
The FM rock stations around here NEVER played the big metal acts until bands like Quiet Riot and Poison started hitting the Top 40 -- and even then, you still wouldn't hear Ozzy, Maiden, Priest, etc.
New Orleans also didn't have an equivalent of Los Angeles' KROQ (sp?) that played non-hit-single post-punk & new wave except for Tulane University's student-run station.
IIRC, Crazy Train was being played on my local rock station in 1981, but pretty sure they didn't delve any deeper into Blizzard of Ozz.I don't recall if Ozzy was played on the radio where I grew up in '81. Another great solo. The whole Tribute album is just the best.My #2 favorite Sabbath song.
There was a radio format that did play quite a bit of Ozzy in the 80s -- he had several US Billboard Mainstream Rock Top 10s in that decade. Looking back on it, some big markets and loads of smaller ones held on to their Album-Oriented Rock stations well into the 1980s (and probably beyond).IIRC, Crazy Train was being played on my local rock station in 1981, but pretty sure they didn't delve any deeper into Blizzard of Ozz.
Even the New Orleans and Baton Rouge classic-rock stations I listened to in high school and college ... never really any metal. Not even old Black Sabbath.I don't recall if Ozzy was played on the radio where I grew up in '81. Probly not.......but he's been in heavy rotation on every rock station I've ever listened to for a long time.
I've been pleasantly surprised to see this song get so much love - I was not expecting it at all. I obviously "get it" since I have it ranked so high (you know the drill) - it's such a lovely hopeful tune.
There's your Achtung Baby track
Crazy Train was played on the radio here too in 1981. I don't recall hearing Mr. Crowley on the radio then, but I remember Mr. Crowley blaring on the speakers in my brother's bedroom. I heard more songs in '81 and '82 on the radio from Diary of a Madman.IIRC, Crazy Train was being played on my local rock station in 1981, but pretty sure they didn't delve any deeper into Blizzard of Ozz.I don't recall if Ozzy was played on the radio where I grew up in '81. The ones in Philly never played it.So you've never listened to an FM rock station?New-to-me favorites from #9. Not much to pick from because I knew almost everything.
This Is the Day -- The The (Eephus). I recognize the chorus but not the verses -- was the chorus used in an ad? Uplifting and melodic.
Borstal Boys -- Faces (OH). I only know their radio songs. The blooze mayhem that they were so good at creating.
Mr. Crowley -- Ozzy Osbourne (Hawks64). I knew of this song, thanks to all the PMRC outcries and such, but I'd never actually heard it. It sounds menacing and yet vulnerable.
I'm not a metalhead and I only had one friend who was -- and he was more into speed/thrash stuff (and hardcore punk).I would have thought everyone in our age range had heard the Blizzard of Ozz album somewhere. It was ubiquitous. So you've never listened to an FM rock station?
Welcome to the Edginess Clubland!@cosjobs and I with the "Elvis Costello songs beginning with a parenthetical battle"!
We must be ultra-hip and cool.

Re: the Abbey Road medley. I’ve posted this amazing cover before, but worth doing so again.
Yeah - they definitely have faces made for (SiriusXM) radio.Re: the Abbey Road medley. I’ve posted this amazing cover before, but worth doing so again.

Not "the most popular British song ever" but "the most popular British song ever among middle-aged dummies." There's a difference.Much as I love this thread and most of all of your selections, if Bittersweet Symphony wins out as the most popular British song ever, something will have gone wrong in the universe.
Mumford & Sons coming to London for "Rock The Park" this summer, (not London England, btw) which is a pretty big coup for this yearly event. After hearing their songs here think I'll be attending.Duran Duran is coming to the Minnesota State Fair!![]()

Looks like it's back again to all but Andy Taylor, but not sure. I would definitely try to go if they play near me and the ticket prices aren't outrageous.Duran Duran is coming to the Minnesota State Fair!![]()
Oh, that sounds kinda fun. Do they still have their original lineup?
It’s…bittersweet.I'm baffled that the Floyd songs Time, and Wish you were here, have only been selected 2 and 3 times respectively.
I gotta believe that we will see both picked several more times as we go on...... especially wish you were here.......but Time could've easily been my top overall song.
You get one full o' piss, it'd be liable to knock someone outExpect multiple pairs of Depends to be thrown onstage.Duran Duran is coming to the Minnesota State Fair!![]()
