Getcha passports ready - the middle-aged dummies are going to the British Isles! Top 31 song countdown. (1 Viewer)

It's ineligible because Linda is on it.
"It don't matter when it's Arcturian a solo artist!"

Seriously ... if the album sleeve just has a solo artist's name, the pick is good.

Good deal, if Krista4 blesses it, it's back on the list!

I know you probably don’t want to hear this, but if you’d like to make changes at this stage, it’s fine.
I don't know how you're approaching the behind-the-curtain work ... but from a data-keeper's perspective, it can be easier to (a) add a new list + delete an existing list as opposed to (b) editing an existing list.

So, it someone wants to make changes to their list, ask that they not send a list of substitutions and/or re-numberings. Instead, insist that they submit a new list from scratch.

If I haven’t entered their data into the master documents yet, then it’s easier to get a fully new list. When a list comes in with ineligibles, I get a full new list with replacements because their data hasn’t gone anywhere yet.

After their data have been entered, it’s easier for me to do replacements song by song.

ETA: Wasn’t sure if I should use a singular or plural verb for “data,” so I did one each.

Define “blesses it.” ;)

Yes, it’s eligible.

Your thread, your rules is all I meant. Good deal, thanks. So, from now on I'll just put in the list (check page one of the thread) and submit it so I don't spoil the rest of the list here.

*Everyone is getting a Voter # this time to aid in my reporting of data in the future, including matchmaking with your closest allies-of-song. I have made sure that @simey is not stuck with #9.**
**#9 Dream by John Lennon is eligible in this countdown.
Thank you, and I avoided putting #9 Dream on my list due to the number, but I do dig the song and its dreaminess.
It would have made my list if I wasn't busy being a jerk face.

Oh, I forgot, our current "one-hit-wonder" leader race is a tie between two songs that have each received two votes for a total of 41 points. These artists are both in 17th right now with that total. I know at least one of them will have more songs taken, though. This is going to be a weird one, as I've already seen some artists I thought might be obvious get another song taken to put them out of the running. Cheap Trick's "Surrender" wasn't a leader for a long time, either, so it will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

I'd love a new designation instead of "one-hit wonder," by the way, since that's really not accurate. Where my creative people at? @Sullie ?

Oooh, I will also submit "Ace" which has multiple singular meanings with the added bonus of being a one hit wonder band with "How long (has this been going on)" from the 70's.

Going to have
I was going to make myself submit this list tonight, but now I am having second thoughts after this one. What else am I forgetting??
I learned my lesson in round one - devote a quiet night to rabbit hole and create a rough draft as a play list...then cover-to-cover the play list the next day and whatever 31 shakes out is what's getting submitted. No matter how many times you spin your wheels through this thing you're going to forget songs, so rip the band aid off and move on!
I really found that ranking website incredibly useful this time around. I got the list down to ~48 and then did the ranking....and cut everything below 31....so much easier than the last one.

Explain to me how this works.

Explain to me how this works.

You put all the songs in a list and it takes all those songs and then asks you, one song against another, which song you prefer. It goes through about 70-80 iterations of asking you and spits out an order based on your preferences. It seems to work rather well. I used my rankings against it, and they came out rather similar.

@Dr. Octopus

1. Yes, both previous  were on your link.
2. There was one very big :excited: on the list that put a current top 10 song on the list, so thanks for that!!
3. Looking at the list "made" me write down about 25 more things to research and obsess over today, so F you for that. :p
and that's only England, you still have Ireland, Wales, Scotland to look at
Do NOT link those lists until after I submit later.

This worked out well though, we are all snowed in, cleaning, wrapping presents, and now researching some British musicians.

#4 The Roots: The Seed.

I own this on vinyl so it was eligible -- I just bricked that I had a copy of Phrenology. I didn't do a very thorough job of looking through the whole collection, so this went unpicked. But I very well might have. They wound up with a different song in my first twenty-whatever out.

Our style guide at work says the word "data" is plural. So that's how we use it. In common use, it's usually treated as singular.

Yeah, I am mostly just joking around. In reality, after my initial "dammit!" response when I see something I didn't think of, it just goes back to thinking is a net positive because now both songs/bands I love are on the playlists. The more great music the better, and we all win.

I have my top 20 squared away and going to make one more skim/listen to narrow down and rearrange the next ones.

My "define 'blesses it'" was an attempt at a joke because I don't like the song all that much.

Yeah, I know what the style guides say, but it sounds bizarre to use the plural, which I guess is your "common use" point. I'm comfortable having done one of each.

I'm not going to say who it is ( :oldunsure: ), but one recent list began with the following intro. You guys are getting the hang of it! :lmao:

1. Yes I looked at the lists
2. Yes these are in song ---> artist format
3. Yes these are in descending order with [redacted] as my top pick.

Yes, I probably did all of the above while high, so take that with a grain of salt. ;)

Screwed me up listing to WC commentary.

Sorry, has been a busy workday, so I've mostly shirked responsibilities here. I wanted to share a ruling I made via PM this morning, just in case this occurs to anyone else.

I learned from a very smart person that the song "Watching the Wheels," when released as a posthumous single, was credited on its label only to John Lennon. I guess my Beatles expert badge will be revoked since I didn't know this. However, I'm still ruling that song ineligible for a couple of reasons. First, it was initially released on the Double Fantasy album, which was credited to John and Yoko. This is not a situation where a different, later version is a solo work (his having been murdered and all), but instead it is exactly the same recording with a different attribution. I'm going with the first release as definitive. Second, since I had already deemed Double Fantasy ineligible based on a prior public inquiry, I wouldn't want to open a new can of worms by suddenly allowing a song I know others would have taken if given the opportunity.

If you have a question about whether something is considered one or two songs, please feel free to PM, as someone just did.

I thought the posters in this thread would get laugh at this comment from the "other" boards about FBGs I saw the other day:

"Those shut-in psychos have nothing left but running music drafts - it's a very disturbing corner of the innerwebz."

I don't think there's been a music draft here since the Mid-Year New Music draft in July.

I'm not counting the Summerpalooza Leeg one because that's serious business.

Well, the corner got a little less disturbing.

Yet folks on boards complaining about other boards isn’t the least bit disturbing.
A bunch of butt-hurt trolls still angry about a certain forum being shut down here.

Welp, I am up to 30 and k4's reply will be 31. Surprisingly proggy in here. 'Cept for the top of the list, I think ranking is more a matter of making the playlist flow. Or not. I dunno how to rank. Still over two weeks to fix this mess.

Just don't expect a quick answer. :)

Ooops, she replied in one minute. I just didn't get the notification. Ty mein fuhrer.

I thought you had to be joking. It was immediate. I hereby rescind my "laughing reaction" on your post

i've been rescinded! After I asked, I left the house for a half hour. When I came back, no notification. When I clicked on the bell, there it was one minute after I asked. I thought it was an easy question, but needed to make sure.
