7. Where my Homies at?:

Which artist formerly of a well-known band will score the most points in his solo career: (a) Eric Clapton; (b) Peter Gabriel, (c) George Harrison; (d) Ozzy Osbourne; or (e) Rod Stewart?

@Uruk-Hai This is the question I was referring to that I threw my hands up and said "IDK, here's a random guess." My guess was Gabriel. I have no confidence in it.

Now, if you're looking at the consensus picks above and saying to yourself, "Damn, I really messed up," please take heart.

At the time that I posted the contest, so around halfway through, I made a note of what the correct answers were at that moment. The only two for which I did not do this were questions #1 and #2, because I didn't feel like calculating that only to have to do it again later.

Of the 13 questions for which I did note the answer, can you guess how many consensus answers matched up correctly?

Well, I won't ask you to do that, because you guys suck at guessing. It was three. Three of 13 correct.

I do know that some shifts occurred thereafter that could lead to a better performance by the consensus picks, though I haven't gone through to match up the final correct answers yet.

EC would have cakewalked this if our beloved dictator hadn't labeled him a doooossh mid-draft

Gabriel Davis?

He suuuuucks

I counted 17 songs/artists I'd never heard of in the opening round. There are several others I recognize the artist name, but don't know if I've ever heard the song. Looks like I'm gonna hear a lot of new music right away.

I don't expect a lot of you to be into Motorhead. Hell, I don't even listen to their music all that often. My selection was more of a nod to a pioneering, sneering, hard living, working class, rock and roll band. Lemmy Kilmister didn't give a ****. He was the epitome of the rock and roll lifestyle. Motorhead is now an institution. They're music, persona, and influence live on through countless other bands. I think Ace of Spades sums them up nicely. Its fast, aggressive, gritty.....it takes your woman, steals your bottle, and kicks your teeth in.
They're not a band I listen to much but Ace of Spades is monstrous. Bonus points for being covered by Ween in their live sets occasionally.
Perfect way to put it. This is just came up in my shuffle, and had a similar thought.

I also will never think of the song without Beavis and Butthead in my ear "Is that a Coco Puff on his face?"

Well, you're with the consensus, if that means anything.

Which, as you've seen in my post above, it doesn't.

One-Point Selections:

Strachan - The Hitchers
This one was fun. Are you a Leeds fan? Apparently this guy played for Manchester United in the 80s (I'm a fan). Buut, Ferguson wrote, "I decided this man could not be trusted an inch – I would not want to expose my back to him in a hurry" about him in his autobiography, so, I'm a little conflicted..
I love Leeds. My father is from Leeds. We used to see The Who on church Street every weekend.

I think rewatching The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret ought to be required for participation in this thread.

For us newbs, what means this?
It all started here as an off-board exercise by some of Dr. Octopus' meatspace peeps.
They’re actually all my fraternity brothers so we’ve know each other for 30+ years.
10-4. I was feeling left out, not belong to the idiot group.

Thanks, GB. It's always good to have connections on the inside.

I'm gonna outsource my conversation with you to @rockaction.

Connected - Stereo MC's @Sullie

ditkaburgers used to sing along to the chorus when she was a toddler accompanied by a little dance where she pointed left and right at the appropriate times.

A post earlier today by Eephus misstated that ditkaburgers used to dance to Connected by Stereo MC's. The song by the band that she danced to was in fact "Step It Up", the first song on the other side of the Connected album.

"re"?

So, who wants to take charge of all these spreadsheets?
If you have not watched The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret (seasons 1 and 2). I highly, highly recommend it. It's top 5 funny all-time for me, and you can blaze through it in a 4-hour binge session. If you want to cheat, just pull up a few random clips on youtube.

David Cross can do physical comedy. All links are PG-13+
  1. Todd is allergice to nuts Spoiler Alert: Todd lied; Todd lies a lot.
  2. Todd's Thunder Muscle pitch different guy played Dave in the episode I originally streamed (not sure of the backstory)
  3. Fart app
  4. Deaf Tour
EDIT: Links fixed

How have I not heard of this?

Mrs. R! You naughty naughty girl. God, I love that song. Never expected to see it here. Didn't know Touch and Go qualified. Wouldn't have used it, but hot diggity, I've played it in certain situations many a time and it is a highlight of my naughty naughty boy playlist. Love a raunchy sax. Val chose wisely.
I feel obligated to ask if this song is part of that list. (Also eligible for this list!)

just ran across this ... for @krista4

What was the popularity dynamic between the Beatles while they were a group? Who was the most popular, and who was the least popular, and why?

I think Ringo Starr said it best (and funniest) when asked the same question years later, about how each Beatle appealed to the masses. He said something to the effect that John got the artsy types, George got the religious types, Paul got the teenage girls. The interviewer then played the straight man: “Well, who did you get?”, to which Ringo said “I got their parents”.

Ringo was actually the most popular with children and with people in the US. Which might be the same.

Nope, but I do have a playlist for that so thanks. Didn't recognize it by name but did as soon as it started.

So many songs on these playlists now, it's hard to shout-out all the good ones. I am going to TRY to narrow down my favorites to 5 new to me or great surprises each time. Just know that there are very few skips for me in these, I generally like everything the rest of you are putting in there, and even narrowing it down to 5 was tough.

These are in no particular order, probably just how they came up randomly on the listen and how I wrote them down:

THIS IS A LOW - BLUR @Dreaded Marco (huh, he didn't come up either) I haven't been a fan of Blur, but this one was a very nice surprise!

NEAT NEAT NEAT - THE DAMNED @Mt. Man I joke about The Beatles and Elton John and such, but honestly, what I am least looking forward to is the possible heavy mix of punk in the draft. I've tried many times, but most doesn't click with me. The guitar solo was awesome, and really dug this one.

NOWWHERE GIRL - B-MOVIES @Zegras11 Never heard of the band or song. Loved the mix of synth, driving bass line, and otherworldly guitars.

YOUR GIRLFRIEND - BLOSSOMS @ditkaburgers I will be honest, I didn't think I'd be liking many of your selections, but you proved me wrong right out of the gate. Fantastic pop ditty.

LIGHTS - ELLIE GOULDING @MAC_32 What the ****, man?? This might have been the surprise of the draft. I equate you with more of the rock tunes that we generally seem to snipe off each other. I don't look at who drafts what until after I get through the mix, and was very suprised this was attached to you.

Loved the Shadow Dancing, Is She Really Going Out With Him?, and There She Goes picks, and those stood out to me from the rest of the great mix.
