Getcha passports ready - the middle-aged dummies are going to the British Isles! Top 31 song countdown. (4 Viewers)

Am I the only one who feels like I shouldn't join in the discussion about a song when it's on my list but not revealed yet? Like I'm giving something away.

IT'S MINE, DAMMIT!!!
If you liked it that much, you should have ranked it lower

Binky: higher!

You can talk about a song without revealing it's on your list. But let's face it, once a song has already been selected, the first person who selected it "owns" it, and most of the discussion is going happen after that pick.

You hadn't heard No Matter What? Despite it being one of their biggest hits? And the band's history with Apple Records and George Harrison? And the fact that it sounds like Paul could have written it? :penalty:

I've probably heard it on the Beatles channel but it didn't stick with me.

Different people have different approaches. In both countdowns, when I've listed my favorite selections, I've included those that are coming up later on my list. Seems like most people don't, though.

Oh, I had been not revealing my future selections but as long as that is kosher with you then I will go ahead and do so.
I'm posting mine in the Assistant Coach forum.

New-to-me favorites from #30:

The Saints Are Coming -- The Skids (Doug B). I had heard the U2/Green Day version but not the original. It rips. I had no idea that Stuart Adamson (frontman of Big Country) got his start as the guitar player in this band.
Starry Eyes -- The Records (Westerberg). Power pop goodness, as others have said.
Got a Right to Be Wrong -- Joss Stone (DrIanMalcolm). I know who she is but not much (if any) of her material. Incredible voice.

I've been staying away from artists on my list, but yeah, I guess thats kinda silly.

That was how I approached US, but after that experience I am altering my approach. If you don't partake now then when the time comes others may be less likely to join the conversation, so jump in while the water's warm.

I need to create a separate playlist of new to me songs before taking Lou out for his walk. I only made it about 1/3 of the way through. I told myself I'd skip songs I was already familiar with but how can you skip out of the sax intro of "Careless Whisper"?

The only new to me songs I managed to hit on shuffle were the Howard Jones number which I liked better than his big hits and the song by Terrorvision. I never heard of the band before and may never again, but the song held its own alongside the legendary songs that came before and after on the playlist.

...and there's the Nektar song.

They used to get played a lot on the free-form radio stations in Milwaukee during the 70s, presumably when the DJ wanted to catch a smoke break. Teenage Prog head Eephus remembers them being touted as a band from Germany back in the day.

I hope the guys installing my HVAC system are suitably impressed with my varied taste in music, though they're probably wondering why I'm playing a Christmas song.

"Hey, you guys notice she only listens to three minutes of every song?"

I didn't find quite as many gems in my listening today.

Today's Pip epic was more up my alley than yesterday's.

shuke's epic was more up my alley still.

I enjoyed KP's Tubeway Army selection better than OH's from yesterday.

I didn't realize I already knew the Spandau Ballet song, which I like but I can't listen to them without thinking of The Krays.

Think I forgot to mention earlier that I'm a big fan of the Them song that OH selected.

I liked the Skids song but not quite enough to put it on the new-to-me playlist.

Same with the Cat Stevens, and that reminds me to mention that when he is selected in this draft I'm referring to him as Cat Stevens, not for political reasons but because I know how to spell it.

The only three to make the new-to-me playlist today were the Badfinger (@simsarge ), Terrorvision (@titusbramble ), and Records (@Westerberg ) selections, with the last being my big favorite of the day.
Yeah- suck it, OH!!!!

;)

Of course you saying you liked it better doesn't mean you liked it overall.

I am sure if you shoot @krista4 a PM she would be happy to give you pointers.

Been listening to a few 1 point songs, Kayleigh is a banger I didn't recognise the track/artist for, and I see Parklife showed up, hence an excuse to post the best post match interview hack ever

:lmao:

I'm hoping another song from my long list gets picked so we can relive Scott Parker's post-match press conferences at Fulham.

My list was very much on the fly, I plan on putting together a playlist of 37-100 at some point and sharing while still keeping the one per artist ruling

I actually don't mind the sax in that song! It's an integral part of the melody and the vibe, not "hey, it's the 70s or 80s so we plopped a sax in here for no apparent reason" like so many I hate.

The sax makes that song. It's just forgettable 80's soft rock without it.

The sax player (Steve Gregory) also played sax on “Honky Tonk Women”, which I’m sure we’ll see at some point.
