One of my least favorites. BUT my favorite rounds are ones ones where there is a lot of stuff I'm not familiar with AND I really click with said new songs. This one had a lot more that I knew, but several, like Airbag, are ones that were hard decisions and I'm really happy they got picked.

McSleazy is probably most appropriate given that he's a New Jersey politician.
They played the heck out of this song back when it was new. Initially, I turned the station immediately as I could't' stand the "whiny" voice . I slowly grew to really enjoy the verses but hated the chorus when he (IMO) starts yelling. I would listen until the chorus starts and switch stations for about 20 seconds, then return for the second verse, then move on after that since I didn't really enjoy the remainder of the song. And that's where this story ends. It's a love/hate relationship.

While I listen blind it's obviously very easy to connect the first song to a particular representative. And part of it is probably @Pip's Invitation wearing me out in the first 3 rounds, but today's opener was refreshingly nasty - in a great way. Thanks for the late afternoon pick-me-up on a beautiful sunny spring-like mid January day in NE Ohio

Love this pick. I was considering 4 songs from this album and kind of wish I picked one of them.My Old Friend The Blues and I'm On my Way are two other superb tracks. Still enjoy I'm Gonna Be even though it's been overplayed.
"I'm On My Way" is my other favorite. It was the first song of theirs I ever heard.

Happy Hour by The Housemartins - as I mentioned in my last five out, they were one of my toughest cuts and it was just due to difficulty selecting one song. This would have been one of my top choices, too.
Picture Book by The Kinks - my second-favorite Kinks song.
I Don't Like Mondays by The Boomtown Rats - one of my last cuts

The night after George died, me and three other friends (one being, Chap) decided to go to Strawberry Fields in Central Park and pay tribute/take in the scene. I’ve told a much longer version of the night in some other thread - but as to the point - There was probably about 15 people with acoustic guitars playing George songs with everyone singing along. It was a magical night for a sad occasion. I recall this song getting played at least three times that night.

While my list was metal free this is the one I thought about. Ultimately, couldn't because I like this cover A LOT more. That's not a slight on Whitesnake nearly as much as it is an endorsement of Halestorm. Lzzy live is just a bar that can't be cleared by these guys. Unless you're Krista and female leads elicits a gag reflex anyway

I don't expect a lot love for Hey Now! It's not a popular Oasis song (though it's on a very popular album). For whatever reason, it just really struck me as a kid. I distinctly remember a long family road trip having (What's the Story) Morning Glory? on CD for my Walkman. I must have listened to that whole album a dozen times. I had heard the hit songs over and over but being stuck in the car with time to investigate the whole album, Hey Now! is the song that caught me off guard and left an impression with me.

TRIVIA: George Young, the older brother of AC/DC's Malcolm and Angus Young, co-wrote and produced "Love Is In The Air" with Easybeats and Flash &The Pan bandmate Harry Vanda.
As far as I can ascertain, AC/DC never covered "Love Is In The Air".

"Eye In The Sky" is a vicious, vicious earworm for me. It's because of that darn Lady Antebellum (or whoever that country act was) song. Makes me think of Cumberland Farms in Granby, CT, where I once freaked out to this song in the parking lot. Oof.
"Alive and Kicking" has no right to be so anthemic, but it is.
"Suspect Device" made and would have starred in my punk hundred had it made it that far.
"Maybe I'm Amazed" is quite simply the soulful Paul McCartney, jack of all trades, master of all songs. It's just a wonderful song and sentiment.
"You've Got Another Thing Coming" is a remnant of my own metal years (I actually had the nickname "Metal" in tenth grade. My picture in the yearbook that year is of me in a Dead Kennedys shirt. See that last story about punk rock and the town's understanding of alternative lifestyles and music).
"Sunshine Of Your Love" has a cool riff.
"The Caterpillar" is apparently only my second favorite Cure song. I do love it. I think I was the one pushing it in that Cure thread we had.
"I Feel Free" is such a cool song that the mix nearly ruins. It still is incendiary and I love the humming at the beginning.
"Gloria" was the finest moment of Chenango Bango, a cover band that my friend was in during my sophomore year of college. Such a great bar track.
"Rumour Has It" is a fine song by Adele with a little stutter to it.
"Still Of The Night" I find my heart beating heavy. The apex of critically-panned but popular hair metal.
"Picture Book" and that walking bass line. Green Day ripped this line off like they ripped off Dillinger Four.
"Crazy Train" aight aight aight -- still stuck on Jobee from Loomis
"Airbag" A crazy beginning to a crazier album. Everything about Radiohead's OK Computer seems so emotive, so perfect in its rebellion against being defined by our own consumerism by forces that would dehumanize us and let us believe that is all we are
"Tainted Love" Don't touch me please/I can't stand the way you something. The Spotify version omits the best part

"Ready To Go" is certainly harder than I remember it. I guess the harmonizing/tracking takes the edge off of the guitars.
"Complete Control" is The Clash's finest song and its declaration of independence from record labels, fans, and all other comers. They were going to do what they wanted and for a time might have been the most important band of the world, though otb would have you believe they stunk from that point on because they believed it.
"That's Not My Name" was responsible for a stupid Pitchfork article about indie and feminism whereupon they questioned the authenticity of the Ting Tings.

"Your Love" was a song I just ripped in scorchy's recent '86 countdown, but it's actually a pretty good, rockin' song. I just hate the New England Patriots with the passion of suns.
"Paper Planes" by Westerberg. Hey, Westerberg! I own that song don't you know! For everyone who thinks it's a traditional rap song about hustling and making money through illicit means, it's actually about human trafficking and the people that forge customs papers and immigration papers for cash.

"Freedom! 90" Not freedom like a shopping cart - NOFX
"Got My Mind Set On You" This song is just six words long - "Weird" Al Yankovic
"Here I Go Again" I think everybody thought I was gay because Tawny Kitaen didn't do it for me in that video. Turns out I was right. Ask Chuck Finley.
"A View To A Kill" sounds like a rhumba or tango setting on the synth
"House of The Rising Sun" is a fitting ending to this excursion into the known knowns. I love this song, of course. The Animals were an underrated band that I somehow missed in my first twenty-five out.

I’ll admit that I did not at the time. I think it was maybe your thread when I discovered it. To be honest I loved the Wilbury albums and McCartney Flowers in the Dirt but after John, I didn’t pay much attention to Beatles solo stuff. Although 1989 (?) was the one and only time I’ve seen one live. Sir Paul.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the new-to-me songs yet but I'll do so on Lou's afternoon walk. In the meantime, I'll blurb the family's picks.
Mrs. E. waited until the next to last day before starting on her picks. I helped her build her long list because ditkaburgers and I were both really curious about what she'd pick. To organize things, I suggested starting with the 60s and working our way forward. It descended into chaos shortly thereafter but not before "Out of Time" made it to her long list. Not many early songs survived her mysterious long list cull but this one did. It's more poppy than the more familiar Rolling Stones version and I hear a bit of Tom Jones in the vocal. She obviously prefers it to the Stones and I'm inclined to agree. The song swings like crazy and the shouted "wells" and "yeahs" before the chorus get me every time.
ditkaburgers inherited her love for 007 from her parents. Her brother likes Bond as well but not like db does. Fittingly, the origin story for her affection goes back to London where we saw the 40th anniversary Bond exhibit at the Science Museum. The kids were hooked and we ended up watching all of the movies even though they were 10 and 6 at the time. I'm not sure how much they got but it stuck. When it was raining like crazy over the past weekend, ditkaburgers watched a couple of Brosnan Bonds over the million other things she could have. The song is much better than the movie. Duran Duran wrote a pretty cool song around an extremely dumb title that's true to both the band's and the Bond sound.
I Am the Resurrection is my favorite Stone Roses tune. The sheer audacity of Ian singing "I am the resurrection and I am the light" on a debut album is a great Rock 'n Roll pose. I love the funky drumming and John Squire's riffing on the extended coda. It's a perfect ending to a classic English album even though their record label tacked on bonus track "Fools Gold" to the end of more recent editions.

Yeah, it's a little bit different to the rest of the album, from my side it's probably the second most likely track off the album for me to press skip on after Cast No Shadow, but there's not really a bad track on there
