New-to-me favorites from #27:

Sails -- Elephant Tree (Manster). Heavy and mesmerizing, like the best Shoegaze.
Leather Jacket -- Mick Taylor (Tim). I had no idea he had a solo career. I would have expected blooze-rock but this was incredibly melodic and almost folk-rock-ish in spots. The instrumental breaks let us know it's really him, though.
Dirty Harry -- Gorillaz (Ditkaburgers). I loved all the stuff going on in this -- incredibly funky and danceable.
Outdoor Miner -- Wire (Krista4). I've heard of Wire but I don't know if I'd ever heard them before. This was more straightforward rock, almost power pop, than I was expecting, and it was glorious.

Eephus: Stay With Me – Faces
It's hard to get more rock 'n roll than a one night stand and this song is pure excitement. Everything works together well, the driving bassline, the crazed Wurlitzer piano and the two guitars ripping in either ear. Rod's hoots and hollers are the icing on the cake. I love how the song just keeps getting wilder and wilder at the end.

It's bar band music taken to its logical extreme. The whole thing sounds like it's getting ready to fall apart at any moment, but somehow they hold it together. Along with the Beatles' "I'm Down", it's the best non-Penniman Little Richard ever.

- In the "think of them as part of bands not as solo artists" division, I enjoyed the Mick Taylor the most.

This was another song I discovered by making an iTunes Radio channel from a song from Exile On Main Street.

I do have say that, like many others, I regard Mick Taylor’s time as a Rolling Stone as their very best era of music.

I believe this song was part of the rift that developed between Taylor and Keef. Taylor wanted the Stones to record it and Keith was opposed. Mick T was right. It's an excellent tune and one of my faves from yesterday.

I’m admittedly a sucker for All Cried Out

I love All Cried Out but it still triggers me. October 1986, freshman year of HS. I am all set to go to homecoming with a super-cute girl named Anne-Marie. A week before the dance, she decides she's gonna go with my neighbor/arch-nemesis Trevor instead. I think I hid in my room every night after dinner and listened to All Cried Out on repeat (probably mis-remembering, since it would have been on a cassette dubbed from the radio). Ended up going instead with this metal chick named Dana and it was all cool, until the DJ played Lisa Lisa and I looked over and saw Trevor and Anne-Marie slow dancing/locking lips. So crushing.

I'm too distracted. Some horrible person dumped a black kitten at the colony a few months ago. I got her spayed and vaccinated back in November. She disappeared yesterday, and I looked around periodically today for her, including tonight until it turned dark on me. It is going to rain tomorrow. I don't have a good feeling about it.

*Update I went out in the rain today to look for her again. I found her closed up in a metal shed that usually has a boat in it. She shot out of there like a bullet. I don't think she learned her lesson.
