Getcha passports ready - the middle-aged dummies are going to the British Isles! Top 31 song countdown. (3 Viewers)

Fine, I'll do this too:

1. The Beatles will have the most unique songs.
2. There will be 2 top songs for the Beatles, as they'll be spread out all over the place.
3. "Gimme Shelter" will come in first for the Stones by 1 point.
4. "Levee" for Zep. (Yep)
5. Elton John will tie with Led Zep for the 2nd most unique selections.
6. But his top song will "Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding"
7. There will be two James Bond themes named.
8. Genesis will have 5 different songs named.
9. The top 1-hit wonder will be The Proclaimers, if only because it's so hard to mistake their Scottishness.
10. All four Beatles will have a solo song named.
That’s a sun-sized spotlight right there.
It sure is. Made me realise I'd forgotten a major song. I'm not sure if thanks is in order or not.

Pretty obvious no one is concerned with spotlighting in this thread, which is fine with me, but I will use spoiler tags for mine.

Anyway, here are my WAGs for how some of this will shake out:

1. The Beatles will have the most unique spins.
2. The Abbey Road Medley will be their top point-scorer.
3. The highest-scoring Stones tune will be "Can't You Hear Me Knocking".
4. "Levee" for Zep.
5. Bowie will have the 2nd-most unique selections.
6. I'm thinking "Heroes" will garner the most Bowie points.
7. "One" for U2.
8. Elton will have the 3rd most unique songs.
9. "Yellow Brick Rd" for Sir Elton.
10. Dusty will be the highest-charting lady.
11. I guess "Baba O'Riley" for the Who.
12. Everyone will pick the wrong Kinks record.

My guesses on these items:

1. Most unique songs selected - Beatles
2. Top scoring song - A Day in the Life, Beatles
3. Top scoring Stones song - Gimme Shelter
4. Top scoring Zeppelin song - When the Levee Breaks
5. Second most unique songs selected - Rolling Stones
6. Top scoring Bowie song - Space Oddity
7. Top scoring U2 song - Bad
8. Third most unique songs selected - Elton John
9. Top scoring Elton John song - Tiny Dancer
10. Top scoring female artist - Amy Winehouse
11. Top scoring Who song - Won't Get Fooled Again
12. "Right" Kinks record - Give the People What They Want

9. The top 1-hit wonder will be The Proclaimers, if only because it's so hard to mistake their Scottishness.
10. All four Beatles will have a solo song named.

My guesses on these items:

1. Agree, per #1 in my previous list above
2. If this means they will have two songs tied for top scoring Beatles song, disagree; if this means they will have two songs in the top 5 scoring songs, agree - A Day in the Life and My Guitar Gently Weeps
3. Agree on the song, per #3 in my previous list above; just to be contrarian, I'll say by two points
4. Agree, per #4 in my previous list above
5. Disagree, per #5 in my previous list above
6. Disagree, per #9 in my previous list above
7. You probably have two in mind, but I am not well versed enough in James Bond themes, so disagree
8. Disagree, I will take the over
9. Disagree, I will take Amy Winehouse with Back to Black
10. Agree

I don't get it?

Good morning, good morning. I think I can help! This new format is not a draft; it's a revolution. You don't have to wait for slackers to make picks then snipe you. All you need is love for 31 vetted songs, ranked, formatted - song first then artist - and sent to @krista4 by 1-13-23. Yesterday I had no idea Olivia Newton John was a brit. It's surprising how many of these seemingly eligible bands found musicians here, there and everywhere. All I've got to do is rank mine. I'm getting better at vetting birthplaces. I will take my time with it.
I want to tell you the best part is this avoids the long and winding road of serpentine drafting misery. If you've got trouble with vetting, just ask krista any time at all. She's prompt and seems to be here eight days a week. Nice of her to carry that weight. I call her the song nazi but she prefers her majesty. It won't be long until she's dropping our picks by how we ranked them and @Hov34 is providiing instant playlists. I have a feeling you'll really enjoy this format because I know you'll share some great rock and roll music we'll otherwise miss. The best time waster ever is when we come together and talk music here. You'll dig it.
I don't want to spoil the party with too much spotlighting, so please Mr. Postman, don't let me down. You know what to do. Something tells me you're gonna run for your life. You can't do that, PIK. Maybe I should have known better and just let it be, but the two of us go way way back.
Anyway, I know you think for yourself. Only you know what you're doing. You still have almost three weeks to submit your list, so get back to us when you decide. The end.

Goodbye,

Doctor Robert

Fine, I'll do this too:

8. Genesis will have 5 different songs named.
I could see it being more. Different people prefer different eras of the band, and there is no consensus as to what the "best" song from each era is, much less overall.
It'll be interesting to see how Genesis shakes out in this thing. The participants I'm most familiar with here would lean early-era, I think. But there are some wild cards who have been more recently participating and surprised me in the US version of this. If I were to pick a Genesis record (I wouldn't have), it would be a Collins-led tune.....but I was never a fan of Gabriel until his solo hits.

Interesting because I chose a Phil led Genesis song but also took a Gabriel solo song much higher - of all the incarnations solo Gabriel is my most listened to.

:lmao: Brilliant!

Giving proper credit where due, though - @Hawks64 did the daily playlists for instant karma, while Hov did the "last five out" playlist.

Vetted?

Yeah, that's what makes this interesting and adds a little nerdy education for us. The first one was "Americans" only, as in US not the Americas. This one is British Isles only, so American drummers rule out bands like The Police. There's more information on top of the first page here. It's not an issue with solo artists. So if you wanted a Johnny Cash song, we don't care who his musicians were. Britain, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It's a deep deep pool for qualified bands.

Sorry Hawks! I was on a roll. I almost didn't post that half drunken silliness, but one line made me laugh pretty hard so I did. The one with Please Mr. Postman. Pik is a retired postal guy. I really am a Robert too, but not a doctor.

I went for the low on this. I think they're a mildly divisive choice.

Yeah - I tend to say it would mostly be Gabriel songs if I were to pick but Collins era has a few too.

This is turning out to be a lot harder for me than the US one. I'm on the verge of just throwing in two songs from 15 different artists...and one from Ringo.
I have 6 from one artist, 4 each form 2 other artists and I think I have 3 from two other artists. It's ok. Everyone will be ok.
Like with the USA version, I’m sticking with one song per artist and it’s ****ing difficult.

Listed submitted and quickly approved by La Jefa. Glad to be done and looking forward to the reveals.

I stuck to one song per artist and used the ranking tool linked here. Highly recommended. Whenever I drive my wife's car and use SiriusXM, I'm constantly flipping to try and find a song I like better, and it was pretty much just like that (minus the steering wheel controls). I was kind of surprised by my results though, as none of my top 5 favorite UK/Irish bands were represented in my Top 5 songs. And if I'm remembering the Big 9 correctly, I shockingly had 5 of them among my 31.

Figured I should vet my own list.

Most of Public Image Ltd. is ineligible due to various people. There are some re-recordings that are eligible.
The Frames have had a US guitarist since 2002. Wtf.

I don't get why this is so hard. I'm at 37 songs, with two artists with two songs each and one song with two of the other people. I had at least ten other songs waiting if I decided to go with one song song per artist. And I know I know a lot fewer groups than most of youse guys.

I don't know.

I never forced myself to the one per artist thing.

I looked it up, and it looks to be a thick rectangle shaped pizza with Wisconsin brick cheese that caramelizes to a crispy crust around the edges. Something like that.

Yes, and it's the caramelization that makes it so amazing. (I have not had the Costco ones, but had it from a local pizza joint here and one in San Francisco.)

Guessing game: will more points come in from people who...
- are trying to be cool and edgy (Elvis Costello)
OR
-went to college (The Smiths)

Apologies to anyone who doesn't get the in-jokes. Maybe someone could explain.

ate too much Costco frozen Detroit-style pizza (highly recommended).
I don't recall ever seeing this at my local Costco. What is Detroit-style pizza?
Motor City Pizza Company

Looks like they aren't listed on Costco's website anymore - karma for me ripping on Genesis.

Oh no. Wrighteous Ray will be devastated.
Not to worry, according to their Find Us section, some Targets and Walmarts sell that brand pizza.
