Getcha passports ready - the middle-aged dummies are going to the British Isles! Top 31 song countdown. (2 Viewers)

I like some of Bryan Adams songs. I like his voice.
I did attend a taping of the Letterman show and Adams was the musical guest. He played a song I don’t really like (from Robin Hood) but it was a good performance and was interesting to see in that setting.
When I was in high school, a mother of one of my good friends worked at the box office at the coliseum, and she could always get us good seats. I can't remember if she got a discount, but I don't think so. Anyway, we went to the Foreigner 4 concert in the early 80s, and Bryan Adams opened for them. I didn't know who he was, but I thought he was entertaining. A year or two later his Cuts Like A Knife album came out. I've always liked his rocking duet with Tina Turner, and I heard it just the other day in the grocery store.
I remember first hearing him when he hit it big in the US with “Straight From The Heart”, which I thought was decent. The power of MTV soon followed with “Cuts Like A Knife” with that empty swimming pool video. MTV was brilliant in how many songs you associate back then from their videos.

Lots of literal knife shots.

Lots of literal knife shots.

80's videos were like that.

Spoilerish - I was considering a Bananarama song (won't say if it's there or not), and watched the video because I remember the girls being really cute (they are)... but of course they had several shots of bananas in the video. And I could almost hear the director yelling "your name is Bananarama. You have to have bananas in the video!"

There was a huge black tomcat belonging to my neighbor at my last house who would come over and hurl himself at our slider door presumably trying to murder our wimpy cats. We referred to him as The Terrorist. Then one day we heard the neighbor calling for him to come in for the night: “Bryan, it’s bedtime!” We were :lmao: that the fear-provoking cat we’d called The Terrorist for a year was named the decidedly un-terroristic “Bryan.” And it actually was with a “y,” as it turned out.
He was probly pissed about the y, and wanted to take it out on ur cats.

Job news! Today I accepted an offer for...well, my existing job. I just remembered that, in this department of the company that will now officially be my employer, new hires choose a "superhero" to represent them. Is anyone confused about why I got out of the corporate world? Anyway, there will be an announcement of my coming on board that gives a bio, then three "fun facts" about me, and an indication of who my superhero will be.

Taking nominations for superheroes. I suppose for fun facts, too - I guess the Beatles stuff will be one. "Runs countdowns of favorite songs of internet middle-aged dummies" won't be. ;)

That’s pretty cruel of you.

Rocket Raccoon is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Bill Mantlo and artist Keith Giffen, the character first appeared in Marvel Preview #7 (Summer 1976). He is an intelligent, anthropomorphic raccoon, who is an expert marksman, weapon specialist and master tactician. His name and aspects of his character are a nod to The Beatles' 1968 song "Rocky Raccoon". Rocket Raccoon appeared as a prominent member in the 2008 relaunch of the superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy.

After this, a more refined version of the character is introduced through an issue of The Incredible Hulk, titled “Now Somewhere In the Black Holes of Sirius Major There Lived a Young Boy Name of Rocket Raccoon!” This comic establishes the character’s name as Rocket Raccoon

Wait, what? I mean congrats but also I am puzzled at how this is a real thing.

Sorry, was busy with holidays and just got back from vacation, we still saying this is due Jan 13?

Yes, the 13th. Countdown to start the 16th. There's one contest already announced, too, and another to come. See link in first post for the first one.

I've already had two people email to remind I'll have to choose a superhero.

Some people just need to get lives. I hate rah rah stuff.

And Rocket is one of my two favorite superheroes.

Well, one of the people was definitely doing it in a mocking way, making fun of the concept (I asked her who hers was!). Not sure about the other...
If someone picks Batman, should we be concerned?

Oh, I'm sure someone is already Batman. It's a group of several hundred people. I might need a list of employees and their superheroes so I am sure to steer clear.

If someone has The Question, be very afraid.

What happens if there's another super duper trash panda?

Several hundred people all sharing this super hero thing? This is so odd to me. What do I know, I am long time union guy but we would never.

ETA: maybe I am just grumpy

I was going to suggest Waffle House Woman, but I'm guessing there will be a couple dozen of those. Maybe mix in a romantic tail (not a bad typo, if I may brag) between WHW and The Waffler.

Laser Cat

There's going to be a DC superhero movie out this year called Blue Beetle

A wee update based on adding lists #21-25. For anyone who thinks that #1 artist is a done deal...there were two switches of #1 based on these lists!

And regarding the Big Three...the good news for other artists is that two of them broke the 400-point threshold. The bad news is that all of the Big Three have now exceeded 600 points.

Congrats! And I know you have sort of settled on Rocket but I think Squirrel Girl is pretty awesome as well. I think the expert communicator fits very well.

Squirrel Powers: Squirrel Girl is a mutate with several traits that are similar to or usually associated with squirrels. Squirrel Girl possesses superhuman strength, speed, agility, and reflexes.[39] She possesses the proportional abilities of a squirrel scaled up to human size.[40]

Abilities

  • Computer Science Expert: Doreen is an expert in computer science.[40]
  • Expert Communicator: Doreen has "defeated" multiple foes through speechcraft alone, from Hippo to Galactus. During her time as an incidental ambassador between the 76 Worlds Alliance, Squirrel Girl assisted in negotiating and resolving grievances of 70 worlds. This was likely done with visual aids produced by Silver Surfer.[42]
  • Medium Awareness: Squirrel Girl has routinely broken the fourth wall and directly addressed the audience.[

HERE you go, @krista4 ! ;)

The long-haired Super-Hip's outfit resembles a 1960s Carnaby Street Mod a la Austin Powers, complete with ruffled shirt, velvet jacket, and Chelsea boots with winged ankles that, similar to the Sub-Mariner, allow him to fly. He also magically acquires an electric guitar which causes whoever hears it to dance uncontrollably whenever he plays rock and roll, and he can change his form into virtually anything, limited only by his often surreal imagination.

I found THIS and was cracking up this morning too.

Stupendous Man would be my choice.
