"Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" - The Buzzcocks
A Pete Shelley-penned tune, this one was picked because of the lead guitar riff between the lines he sings in the opening verse. Simple as that. The lyrics are typical guy/girl stuff, though it was new for a punk rock band to address the issue in such a bourgeois way. Or maybe that should be relatable way. Either way, it's from 1978, right when punk was dying off.

Catching up on the class song thing. We had one when we "graduated" our Catholic K-8 school, it just meant the song they played over a slide show.
But there is no way we had one in high school, unless you're talking about the theme of prom or a dance. Like how would your class song even be used?

Doves' "There Goes The Fear" is very cool. It's got elements of a post-rock or post-hardcore without being either of those two genres. There's definitely a tension and release that those two genres are known for. It's also got a slight jam band feel towards the end and in its length.
Roots Manuva's "Dreamy Days" reminds me of Wyclef. That's a good thing.
Those are the two new-to-me songs I'm taking away from tonight's listening.

New-to-me favorites from #13:
There Goes the Fear -- Doves (Krista4). Another winner from them. The first half reminded me of the Coldplay deep tracks that have been picked in this exercise, and then the momentum really took off in the second half. The percussion-driven ending reminded me of Chicago's "Beginnings."
Bonny -- Prefab Sprout (Eephus). As with Marillion, I remember them being a big deal in the UK in the '80s, but I don't remember if I ever actually heard their music. Very interesting tune with a great melody.
Safety in Numbers -- Head Hands & Feet (Landryshat). An intriguing mix to me -- blooze-rock meets The Band.
I Found That Essence Rare -- Gang of Four (Worrierking). I didn't like this one quite as much as Damaged Goods, but it's got the same kind of appeal.

Hmm. I believe that I mentioned something about triskadecaphobia in the US countdown at this spot. I suppose I could add something about Thirteen O’Clock here, though that was Trevor Jones, not Bowie. Eh. Instead (also?) hopefully enjoy me taking a Deja Vote, all the Portishead, and yes, a little Bowie also.

I sure hope the party was like this one.Our class song was Good Times Roll from The Cars. The prom song was Separate Ways by Journey. I only remember a few things about the prom. I remember slow dancing to the song Truly by Lionel Richie with my prom date, and he started singing it in my ear.I hated wearing the prom dress. It was like some ballroom gown, and that corsage my prom date gave me took up half my arm. I couldn't wait for it to be over so I could put on my street clothes, and go to the after party with everyone.

My top 5 of the well knowns.
I included my own this time because it's one of those great moment in time songs for me. I'd heard a few Van Morrison songs many times over the years of listening to classic rock radio, of course. Although they were good songs that I liked OK, I'd never been a true fan.
One late night on a houseboat in 2002 celebrating my FIL's birthday, I retreated to my "cabin" with another bourbon, my iPod and head phones . I was scrolling through albums and Astral Weeks came up early. I'd downloaded it but wasn't super familiar with it. Hit play.
Loved the title track. Beside You kept it going but wasn't (granted, bourbon)....then Sweet Thing caught my attention again. Cyprus Avenue and TWYLD were pretty OK, but it was 1 a.m. Madame George started and I was mesmerized from beginning to end. Listened to it 4 more times that night. Hundreds of times since.
