Mrs. Eephus: Metal - Gary Numan
I thought Numan had been picked but I guess both of the songs were credited to Tubeway Army. "Metal" was the B-side of his big hit but has become a perennial in his live set. The song has been covered by both Nine Inch Nails and Afrika Bambaata.

Mrs. Eephus is a big fan and goes to see him whenever he comes to town. She talks about how amazing he is live and what a contrast it is from his shy persona when he first started out to the commanding presence he's become.

@ditkaburgers: Breakout - Swing Out Sister
This is an 80s song but it's not from a movie soundtrack. ditkaburgers became a fan from hearing on an 80s hits compilation CD she listened to as a child.

Swing Out Sister is a two-hit wonder in this country. ditkaburgers likes Corrine Drewery's voice and the horns in the chorus. I think it has a groove that's reminiscent of Japanese City Pop. Fun Fact: Andy Connell of Swing Out Sister was formerly a member of A Certain Ratio which was one of the original acts signed to Factory Records along with Joy Division and OMD.

Eephus: Your Love Is King – Sade
God save our gracious queen, long live our noble queen. I love Sade and had to rearrange my list when she was declared eligible.

I picked a different Sade song in the Their Best Song draft in late 2021 but "Your Love Is King" is definitely my favorite because it was the first dance at our wedding. We had a decent size wedding but did it on the cheap. The reception was held in the cafeteria of a senior citizens center in the Fillmore and some church lady friends of my mother-in-law cooked all the food. But we didn't go into debt and are still married 36 1/2 years later. There's a line in the song that goes "this is no blind faith" but in retrospect it really was. There's no way a 26 and 24 year old couple can anticipate what awaits in a lifetime together but a little blind faith isn't the worst starting point.
NGL that made me tear up a bit @Eephus

I OWN OUTDOOR MINER ******* IT.

I'm kidding. I put something like four points on it. I'll let OH own it. OH has, by the way, been standing the kitchen singing along with Waltzing Matilda for the last several minutes.

he's gotta be drunk and crying by now then

next step is he starts a fight.

Personal update: Not sauntering.
I’m not either. I also didn’t pick a kazoo band tomorrow.

Look how perfectly normal OH's last seven picks have been!

And all of his top seven are artists that have been chosen, and three are songs with other votes.

8-Outdoor Miner -- Wire

9-Borstal Boys -- Faces

10-Transmission -- Joy Division

11-Sway -- The Rolling Stones

12-At Home He Is a Tourist -- Gang of Four

13-Five Years -- David Bowie

14- Welcome to the Working Week -- Elvis Costello

Look! Up in krista's house
Is it a saunter?
Is it a slow jog?

No, it's Conventional Man

Looking at my remaining songs, I have

a song picked a couple times by an artist with two songs selected
a song picked a few times by a popular artist with a few songs chosen
a song that has only been taken only once by a very popular artist with several songs chosen
a song that has been taken before and will probably pop up a few times in the remaining rounds by an extremely popular artist with a bunch of songs chosen
3 songs that haven't been taken yet (one that I expect to pop up a few times still before the draft is over though) by artists who aren't new to the draft

My #2 favorite Sabbath song.
landrys, a friend and I are going to check out the Highwater Festival on Sunday the 16th (of April). Do we need to bring chairs or a blanket? We know nothing about it other than who is playing, and that it is at Riverfront Park. Are you going?
Hey! Yes, I will be there both days. Here is list of stuff you can/can't bring in. https://support.highwaterfest.com/h...t-items-are-allowed-prohibited-at-High-Water- Looks like blankets are good, but no chairs. I've been to the festival a few times. It's a good setup. Two stages, but not too big. We'll have to meet up.
Thanks! I'll PM you my # when it gets closer, or I can just scan the park and look for a sniper.

OMG.

"Space Truckin'" came on the playlist, and I had to look at it again to see what it was, then commented, "Oh yeah, this is that Deep Purple song I really liked the other day, too." OH agreed and said that when you have a few talented musicians, eventually you're going to come out with a great song, and then he admitted that even Steely Dan's "Dirty Work" is a fantastic song. Don't tell Steve!

Now he just told me that John Bonham was the best drummer of all time in any genre, so much so that "he could even make this **** sound interesting." I guess he's not the "Fool in the Rain" fan that I am.

Sorry for my live blog of my listening party today. Guess I don't feel like working.

It's looking like my favorite Deep Purple song will go unchosen, but it will find a spot on my top-31 songs not picked playlist.

timschochet: Why Can’t I Touch It? - The Buzzcocks - Don't know much about them except how they got their name (which is cool), but this slaps (as the children say, I think) Going to have to explore a bit more. Sorry to who took it before; I missed it the first time.
Oliver Humanzee: Outdoor Miner - Wire - I think I remember this the first time, but didn't give it much of a chance. (sorry) I like it more the couple of times I heard it today.

@Hov34 manages to insult both members of the 4 household in one post. :lmao: (I was the one who first selected Outdoor Miner, and OH was the first vote on Why Can't I Touch It?)

Jk, I'm glad you're posting a lot more in here. Your posts are always interesting and entertaining.

WOWOWOW! By far my favorite playlist so far. Only complaint is that it could use a lot more Beatles. But aside from that, it has:

- Five songs that are in my top 31.
- My favorite Pink Floyd song.
- My favorite Led Zeppelin song.
- What could become my favorite David Bowie song. I did not know The Jean Genie, but whoooooa.
- What are apparently my favorite Buzzcocks, Deep Purple and Iron Maiden songs, though I didn't know that until this countdown.
- A nice smattering of Elvis Costello and U2.
- A whole bunch of long-time favorites from The Smiths, Roxy Music, The Cure, Peter Gabriel, The Jam, Rod Stewart/Faces, Echo & the Bunnymen, Joy Division, Pet Shop Boys, Steve Winwood, and others.
- New-to-me excellence from every song that was actually new to me, and a reminder of how awesome that Swing Out Sister song is.
- No Joe Cocker!

It's a near-perfect mix, and rather than just saving some favorites, I'm keeping this one in my library wholesale.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I will own my top song and my #3 song.

mine! mine! mine!!

I'm probably going to own my 6 and 5 selection, thought I was going to own tomorrow, but someone took it today.

My top 4 have all been taken and top 3 are the chalkiest chalk or all chalk.
I feel like my #2 song is going to enter the chat soon and start throwing haymakers.

I think we've identified the problem: Donald Fagen's vocals. Dirty Work is one of the few SD songs that Fagen doesn't sing.

@krista4 - and the dreamiest drummer in the draft! ;)

Another high-water mark for the number of songs I knew. It made for some tough choices in the ‘favorites’ (especially since I’m trying not to repeat choices), and a small urge just to list all the songs I didn’t know (before).

#8s
Recognized by title alone: 32
Sounded familiar: 4
Knew from this countdown: 2
Didn't know: 6

Selected Favorites:
There is a Light That Never Goes Out (worrierking)
Rolling In The Deep (MAC_32) - the benefactor of me not (quite) selecting this song the other three times. But I’ll send out some ,<3 the past, too.
Pump It Up (jwb)
What Have I Done to Deserve This? (higgins)
In Between Days (Zegras11)

Some songs I didn't know that I ended up liking:
Figure It Out (KarmaPolice)
The Cutter (The Dreaded Marco)
Outdoor Miner (Oliver Humanzee)

Coming tomorrow from me. Surprised that I'll own it.

In other news:
Locomotive Breath becomes the 7th song on my list to get at least 2 other votes. It's worth noting that only 4 of these songs have shown up on my list so far.
The other 4 songs yet to show up have 1 selection total so far.
The three that might (key word?) be "mine": One is mildly surprising, though looking at the top song totals so far explains some of it. One is from a band with many songs taken and not a lot of common ground, so it makes sense. The third gets the Pip's Invitation Award for longest song on my list.

You are at least the third person to identify this as a new-to-them favorite, when I took it about 20 rounds ago. :lmao: THIS IS MY SONG. MINE MINE MINE.

I disagree, I think the person who assigns the most points to it owns it. If you really wanted Outdoor Miner you should have placed it higher than OH. Sry.

Favorites new to the thread:
Hawks64: Blackbird – The Beatles
DrIanMalcolm: Dear Mr. Fantasy - Traffic
Zegras11: In Between Days - The Cure

Not going to call this a favorite, but I love this guy's voice/accent. I briefly considered a few songs from them for my list.
titusbramble: Has It Come To This? - The Streets

New to me and pretty good:
KarmaPolice: Figure It Out – Royal Blood
The Dreaded Marco: The Cutter - Echo & The Bunnymen

For some reason this is one of my least-favorite Bowie tunes. Maybe because it's too "classic rock" for me?
simey: The Jean Genie - David Bowie

Fool In the Rain isn’t my favorite Zep song by any means but it is absolutely remarkable and I can’t stop listening to it. It’s the most pleasant of ear wigs.

If I had chosen a Zep song, it would have been this one, even though I figure it's not beloved by hard-core Zep aficionados. Just love it.

I think my comment in Anarchy's thread was this is maybe the most non-Zeppelin like song of theirs that people know. I don't dislike it but I don't think I had it in my top 40. But that's more to how deep their song list is.

#70 on my Zeppelin list. And I'm an In Through The Out Door apologist.

It's about to get crazy in here.

Seriously! Whatever ill will had been generated in the thread is gone for me. Loving it again!

Tonight’s the first dance party in the 4 household in a while. Before the dance party, during dinner I played the entire album from which my next selection comes. For the dance party, we have OH’s top 31 on shuffle. So. Much. Fun.

I’ll admit that I think no one has ever dance partied to his #1 before, but it worked.

Oh, gotta go, “Sway” is on!
