There's a whole thread about Rush.
"Top 7 days of the week!!"

Might change for me depending on if it’s football season or not, but I’ll go with this as a baseline

And to think I use to come into this thread to feel better about my drinking habits.
I'll admit, back in college it was pretty much every night of the week. There was always something going on. My fraternity brothers and I were reminiscing about those days a couple weeks ago. Sunday was our chapter meeting, so... keg. Monday night? Either MNF or (gasp) some sort of dumb show on Fox. I think we watched 90210/Melrose Place. Or maybe that was Wednesday. Anyways, Tuesdays were dollar drink night at a local dance joint. You could go with a 20-spot and have enough for some late-night Taco Bell on the way home. Wednesday was the off night, I think. Thursdays were downtown for a local reggae band. Friday/Saturday nights were spent cruising house parties with free beer. So, yeah. College was nuts.

After college I got more into hard alcohol. I'd go pretty hard at least twice a week. That lasted a good decade. Then I got married, and things slowed significantly. I still went out once a week but the overindulgence stopped.

COVID changed things a bit for me. I was never an "at home" drinker. I'd have beers at home, only because I'd get a 6er or 12er as a birthday gift or something. I'd very rarely have a "pre-game" beer before going out. But yeah, COVID got me to having a few cocktails on a random Tuesday late afternoon/evening, cuz why not? Didn't have to go into the office the next day. So I went from a 3-4 times a month drinker to a 10+ time a month drinker. That's just too much for a guy with my past and with family history of GI issues.

My recent bouts with pancreatic issues have forced me to really re-evaluate my overall health. Which includes alcohol consumption. Good thing I'm in a state with a lot of "other options".

A lot familiar in here.

I adjusted to the lack of social interaction during covid way too well, while simultaneously probably feeling the worst I ever have about myself. At least as an adult. And that was while hiking about 5 days a week. I do miss that.

Otherwise, it definitely changed our habits for the worse. I'll die of something stupid, I have no doubt, but Covid will almost surely will have accelerated it.

Man, when it rains it pours, huh...

Yesterday was me going to the ER, today it was me taking our older pup to the emergency vet. He's been "off" for the past week or so, but seemed to be doing better as of last night. This morning he did his normal pee break when I get up to shower, but he needed me to lift him to get back on the bed to snuggle with "mama" and the other dog.

Wife texted that he wasn't looking good this afternoon and had made him a vet appointment for tomorrow morning. I got home from work a little early, and expected him - as per the norm - to come to the gate (we have a baby gate in our foyer to ensure the dogs don't get out the front door) to greet me. But he wouldn't get out of his cage... barely stood up when I approached his crate. Asked him if he wanted to go outside (which is normally an enthusiastic "yes") and he just laid there basically unresponsive.

Called/texted the wife, who works at Starbucks on Tuesday afternoon/night and told her that I didn't think we could wait to get him to a vet. So took him over to the "vet ER" and got an exam. Seems to be doing better and they are doing x-rays. They suspect some kind of soft tissue injury or - most likely - arthritis. Yippee, another 6 bills out the door.

Gotta go pick him up here in a bit, as they weren't able to get to his x-rays until a bit later tonight.

This dog is a "mama's boy" and he sometimes drives me crazy with the barking (he's a terrier mix that barks at cats and squirrels) but I still love the little *******.

Edit - he's back from the vet and doing better. Total 180 from 4pm today. Probably a moderate sprain in a back leg. On pain and anti-inflammatory meds for a week and has to "rest"... which means no cat/squirrel chasing for this monster.

The house across the street from me sold last year. Nobody ever moved in. About two months ago they ripped out all of the landscaping and the driveway, and they've been parking cars and construction equipment directly across from my driveway. I've asked them not to park in that particular spot (there's a ton of parking on the street). Today the owner of the house parked there all day. I was out cleaning my boat getting ready to drop it in for the season. I went over and asked him to park anywhere else but directly across from my driveway, since I have to back my cars out and it makes it inconvenient. He acted like I was an alien and couldn't understand anything I said. This isn't even the front entrance to his house and he has circular driveways on both sides. I think this may be a declaration of war.

The blower motor in my furnace broke. It tries to spin the fan, but gets stuck. It repeats every 30 seconds to exactly the beat of Blue Monday, and vibrates through the house. Before I figured out what was going on I went outside at 2 am to see which of my neighbors was having a party. Now it's stuck in my head.

Is there CBD available where you are? works wonders for arthritis symptoms in animals
Turns out he's not arthritic.. at least not yet. He has some kind of soft-tissue injury, most likely. He's still in a bit of pain and we're hoping the anti-inflammatory and pain meds do the trick, otherwise it's back to the vet.

And just to add to the list of various maladies going through my house, I now have some swelling in one of my eyelids. I've had sties before and guessing this is another. Fantastic. I look like Sloth from Goonies.... ROCKY ROOOOAD??

Yeah even if it isn't arthritis CBD is good for inflammation and pain.

Neighbor moved his car...and parked directly across from my next door neighbor's driveway. He's definitely trying to piss people off. The entire street is open for parking and he's intentionally choosing to park in the only way possible that makes it difficult for people to get in and out. We live on a cul de sac and everyone parks in their driveways. Only on rare occasions when someone has a guest or a landscaper does someone park on the street. This guy's going to have some issues when he's fully moved in.

I think that, at this point, tactical nukes are in play.

my money's on new-neighbor being a city-guy and oblivious to all the unwritten rules you hicks in the sticks have.

of course, him being a doosh-nizzle isn't mutually exclusive.

Roverkid completed her junior year of college today. She's killing it. Also, that took me 6 years.
Awesome news.

This one hit home with me. 19 year old son just got done with his freshman year. Had a rough start - had to have surgery right before he went away to school. Had to ease into football camp in August because he wasn't quite ready.

Got semi-healthy and kicked in a game and then got sick with pneumonia. Spent a week in the hospital and another week at home recovering. Missed the rest of the football season so he will apply for a redshirt.

The school and coaching staff were wonderful and really worked with him so he could keep up with school.

Got home last week for the year and ended up with something like a 3.5 gpa for the year. Couldn't be prouder.

And I was a lot like you - took me awhile to get through college. So I'm relieved he was able to fight through all that.

Congrats!!!

Just got the message today "how old do you feel to have a senior in college"?

So I'm guessing that he passed all his classes.

..............although he did just recently inform me that his major is a 5 year program, however he'll be able to take most of year 5 remote from my house. :shades:

Yeah, my oldest is graduating in June - four years at Oregon flew by. There's a GIANT graduation ceremony Monday morn at Autzen Stadium, but we're passing on that and instead will hit his Honors' College ceremony and then later his Sociology ceremony on Sunday with a celebration to follow. He never really shared his report card with me, but I *THINK* he made just one "B" the entire time, so I'm hoping he graduates e pluribus unum or whatever.

Shameless plug alert!

My buddy who is the newest guitar player for The Eagles has a new album out. Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers and now The Dirty Knobs makes a guest appearance on a track. Check it out if you're looking for some new tunes by one of the hardest working guys I know in music (okay, the only guy I know in music).

When I joined here I selected AAABatteries as my alias - had 3 kids all with ‘A’ names - ended up with four kids (#4 also ‘A’) so my alias is a little bit of a middle finger to kid #4.

Anyway, kid A #2 graduating from nursing school at Kennesaw State yesterday - so proud of her! Two down, two to go.

Congrats to everyone that had kids smarter and/or more dedicated than us slackers.

On the flip side I have a 20 year old living with us who also never got a "B" at University of Oregon. Got plenty of other letters, tho......
I know this isn't a contest, but believe me, buddy, I got you beat there. We're at our wits end. Just seems like such a hopeless situation. Feel like the worst parents in the world.

In all seriousness, I was that student and that misdirected. It took me five years and they were ugly. The university was set to kick me out because the Dean of Students thought I was so cavalier that I'd be better off working construction in order to appreciate a liberal arts education. And other students got much more leeway when their grades dropped, but he put the letter of the law to me and the only way I got to stay was a grade change one semester.

Then I copped probably one of the most coveted liberal arts/political jobs in the country after my five years on the strength of a cover letter and then upon inquiry, an explanation that scored an internship which turned into a job. I say this for two reasons: the first is that my parents were nothing but supportive and good parents who also disciplined, cajoled, and tried everything. It wasn't them. It was me. There are some things that you just can't impart or force. The second is that there are redemptive acts in life and they can happen suddenly and sooner rather than later, so keep hope alive.

Of course, I would go on to **** up majorly, but the chance was there and for a few years I took full advantage and did really well.

In some small ways, she’s gotten a raw deal and being the youngest of 4 or 6 can’t be easy. But she got more experienced (and richer!) parents than her siblings and she gets away with murder. She also just got a brand new Nissan Kicks from us. Definitely a mixed bag for her, however.

The chick that ruined my marriage a long time ago by lying to my wife about stuff I never did just found out that her husband has been living a secret life under a second name for the last 10 years and has a girlfriend, a drug habit, and enjoys the company of professional women on a regular basis. She made him go to a 30 day inpatient rehab.

hahahahahahahaha

Eddie Money had 23 songs crack the Billboard top 100 over his career. 23. That's a LOT!

He gets crapped on all the time, but 23 songs cracking the Billboard top 100 is no joke. 11 reached top 40. That's rarified air.
Did you also count the time he sang backup on the top ten (peaked at #7) 1980 hit by Kenny Loggins?
"I'm Alright" is a song written and performed by American rock musician Kenny Loggins. It was used as the theme music for the 1980 comedy film Caddyshack. The track was released as a single in 1980 and then reached the top 10 of the U.S. singles chart. Eddie Money makes a guest appearance in the song's background chorus.

I mean I fall asleep at 9pm these days, no way I have the energy for that nonsense.

Well, I've talked about him in here a few times - a year ago at this time, I was maneuvering behind his back with his roommate to find another student to take over his very expensive lease down in Eugene. My son was just planning on living in Eugene without a well-paying job, without going to school and just coming home in Sept after failing out in spectacular fashion. It was very stressful and he didn't take it very well when I told him I found his replacement and that he was coming home in mid-June but it had to be done. I wasn't paying $900 a month for him to live down there after the stunt he pulled.

But to his credit, we hugged it out, told him he had a place to live - HIS HOME - as long as he needed, we don't need to re-litigate the past, let's just get to work, save some money and pay back the money owed to Oregon. And that's precisely what he's done. On X-mas even, he was promoted to manager, given a salary, benefits, 401K....a REAL job. He's paid back more than half of what he owes Oregon, got himself a 2020 Toyota Camry with financing, DJs on the side and has his smile back.

If he wants to continue his education - and I hope he does, but it's up to him - he'll have to do it through CC and over time, but that's okay. I think he'll be fine if he does or doesn't because he's proved to himself that if he works hard, puts his nose to the grindstone, does the right things, he'll be rewarded. Especially working for the company he's with now as they promote from within. Confidence needs a foundation and he built himself a firm one after messing the bed in college.

We all experience personal growth at different rates of speed and time. He's got great parents and is loved - that's super important. Hang in there, man.
