GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (17 Viewers)

One of my GF's best friends just moved back to our town after 25+ years in San Diego and Arizona. I've been told I have to befriend her boyfriend since he doesn't know anyone here. Playing golf today for this man-date.

My last round was embarrassingly bad. This may not turn out well.
Update?

Been away for a few days... not really in a spot to offer specifics, but had a pretty traumatizing family emergency pop up last Wednesday. I hate "vaguebooking" but if you're the praying type or just wanna send me and my first born some positive juju, it would be appreciated.

I've always hit a little fade, but I had wrist surgery and just started playing again after over a year. My fade has disappeared, but I continue to aim like aim going to hit it. So lots tree issues on the left side.

Been listening to the new Miley Cyrus album and digging it. Touches on a bunch of different genres: pop, 80s pop, 60s/70s R&B, some Dolly Parton-esque country, etc. Have a feeling that End of the World is going to end up as the song of the summer and we’ll be hearing it everywhere. Especially with how fitting the line “let’s pretend it’s not the end of the world” feeling so relevant at the moment.

End of the World

Not a great day in Minnesota. I'll just leave it at that.
Is that where you are?

I was going to start a thread but knew it would devolve instantly.

I wanted to ask locals- what it was about the two targets than made them targets?
Yeah, I'm in the metro. This happened in north suburbs. I'm south. Supposedly 70 names on the hit list found in his car. Dressed as police officer and in a vehicle equipped with lights and siren that looked like a police SUV.

Sounds like he ran a security among other things. He was appointed to some government workforce council, whatever that is, by Walz and a Democrat governor before him. Time on council ended in Jan. 2023.

Both of those shot are Democrats state politicians. They haven't said who else was on the list, but they said the list of targets also included abortion clinics.

No motive yet, but apparently found a manifesto in vehicle, I'm sure it will all become clear soon.

Unbelievable police work to stop potentially dozens more assassinations. After they got 911 call on first shooting (where they survived) a local cop said, should go check the other state politician that lives a few miles away just to be sure. They sent a car over and ran into the guy in the act of murdering her and her husband and he shot at cops and ran off.

Could have been so much worse.

Wow, I hadn't heard that. That intuition could end up saving lives.

I hope they catch this piece of garbage soon. Incredibly depressing to see this story today.

Well, he got out of the area. Officials just confirmed that. They have footage of him wearing different clothes and in the city of Minneapolis sometime this morning (after the shootings). That means the net is much, much wider now. Not good.

News came out late last night that police pulled over a vehicle well north of Minneapolis late yesterday morning that had the shooter's wife in the car along with some other relatives of the shooter. Also in the car: a gun, ammunition and passports.
Good to hear they were caught. I hope that leads to catching this SOB and anyone else involved.

The state senator who survived was shot 8 times. His wife, who also survived, was shot 9 times. She apparently laid on top of their daughter to protect her and keep her from being shot.

Developing in last half hour is that the shooter's vehicle has been found abandoned on the side of a rural highway in the same general area of his house that police have been at since yesterday morning. The cowboy hat was laying on road too.

Seems weird that he's still in Minnesota and would go back towards his house when he has to know they know who he is. Now they're starting to search house to house in that area. But very rural farm country. Houses will be very spread out. Almost wonder if that's a decoy to get them to waste time there while he goes somewhere else.

Starting to wonder if he's getting help.

Why isn't this in its own thread on page one?

Anyone is welcome to start a thread on it. Please let's try not to let it move political if possible. It will be interesting to see how it differs from the Insurance executive that was murdered.

GM is my long time good buddy, but it always bums me to see the forum divide into cliques instead of using the entire forum as @cosjobs noted.

I said I was going to start a thread, but like the insurance one... And even moreso... I knew this would devolve immediately if let loose to gen pop.

Thank you. I'm always a fan of the whole forum discussing. Sometimes, we're not able to. And I could see this one being one we can't with the clear political connections. But it seems worth a try. Either way, always a much bigger fan of being inclusive and making it for the whole FFA.

Well give it a go.

I can't explain how much I absolutely despite the eye doctor.

Up until recently, I had only gone twice in my entire life. I've been having sties (absolutely horrible) on my eyelids, and during a routine check the doctor found an abnormality on my retina that he wants to keep an eye on (pun intended).

The effing machines they use to check everything out drive my eyes batcrap crazy. I just can't do it.... or it takes me 3 times longer to do the scans cuz I blink and my eyes tear up so badly.

I have never been great with eyedrops. I remember my dad had to hold me down when I was a wee tyke and had an eye infection for my mom to get drops in my eye.

Contacts? LOL, that is a hard pass.

Tough weekend in Minnesota got even tougher late Saturday night, as an acquaintance of my son died in a car accident. 19 years old. Like my son, he was adopted from Guatemala. I coached the kid in little league baseball, the whole bit. Knew the family pretty well. They lived right around the corner from us.

Just awful. Rumors are they were racing or some nonsense. Kids that age are dumb, just like we all were. So gut-wrenching to have it cost him his life. Can't imagine the parents.

Funeral is going to be just brutal obviously.

They can be gone in a blink.

Gentlemen (and ladies or even they, them, these) -

We need to talk about wide brim hats. The kind fellas in their 60s and upward tend to wear when sitting out in the sun. Straw hats, round hats, cool hats, who has 'em and more importantly, who has 'em for a reasonable price?

I sat outside in the sun for college graduation and just got cooked. Shame on me, I should apply sun block after I shower like my wife does with nice smelling lotions.

But as I scanned the crowd for 2 hours I grew envious of the older chaps who sported wide brimmed hats. Some even had Oregon Ducks' decor, which was cool. My dad has a Longhorns one.

You guys got any wide brimmed hat suggestions or ideas?

Sincerely,
A very sun burned GM

I wear this one on my boat on sunny days.

I have a floppy brimmed hat that covers my neck as well. I didn’t go full mullet flaps but considered it. I think I got it at REI. I also chose one that I could swim in because I’m extra ginger.

It’s been to multiple continents. And I love it.

I have a Tilley one that I got for hiking that I love (Airflo), but its pricey. I'm nearly as pasty as you, so I need it.

Once you've honed in on this, you'll eventually progress to longsleeve sunshirts and all their various fits and styles. Much easier than constantly applying SPF 1000000000

And then beekeeper suits to mow the lawn.

But a burka to check the mail still, right?

Cool hat is pretty sweet if you know you are sitting out for a long time. Summer softball tourneys.... From the sweat or soak in water cools you down

If you want to go all fancy, you can go to a haberdashery and get fitted for a nice hat. I have an Italian straw hat that I wear to outdoor dressy things like graduations and horse racing events. A good one will run you about $250.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to avoid. I never went top shelf on accessories like sunglasses because I knew what would be a problem for future me when I lost them.

Im looking to spend $50 max for a hat.

I’ve been in on the swim shirts for years. With my crocs, long sleeve swim shirt and awesome hat, I could not look more like a tourist.
