Sadly i did some damage to the undercarriage. Just two parts designed to protect it (shields) doing their job, but i feel even dumber for that.

I drove onto one of those in a Hemet parking lot and had a tweaker and his girlfriend trying to lift my car, just like you. And probably looking for scratch. I told him immediately I couldn’t pay him (I was going to an unspecified but officially fine meeting and was broke). I had to get towed off of it. So I wouldn’t feel stupid if I were you (well, if you’re sharing experiences with me then maybe . . . ), or not too stupid, let’s say. Somebody else who is currently alive and under seventy-five has done the same stuff.

That was a frustrating, helpless feeling because getting out of the car with it being raised in the air is something one has to do, although I’ll bet like me you’re too concerned with other stuff to remember how far you were from the ground. It’s not anything that’s that high in the air, so it feels natural. But you are indeed up in the air, as is your car.

LOL. Hope the Lryic repair doesn’t cost you too much.

PS You went with the freaking Caddy, didn’t you? I told you, bro . . . never the Caddy. :)
A couple of nights ago I dreamed I was driving down the highway and I was lit up by a couple of Highway troopers. I pulled to the side of the road and no troopers/cops to be seen. I walked out to the road and saw nothing, until I turned back to walk to my car and saw it roll and tumble down the embankment where I had parked. Probably a message in there somewhere from my subconscious.

Are you driving to Austin? :scared:

I think I hit the Over (70) today.
Celebrating by packing up my life into boxes before the moving truck gets here this afternoon, then moving to an airport motel for a week with the wife and dogs while I finish getting my soon to be ex-home ready for the Open House this weekend.
Oh...and Happy Birthday!!!

Congratulations on successfully navigating the birth canal, Magellan.

gllllll with the move. Where are you moving to? Perhaps you said somewhere, but I missed or forgot. Either is a distinct possibility.

yes, but I'll probably stop two nights enroute. I could do it in one if I was still in my 60s

Happy Birthday Cos!

The Cinnamon Toast Crunch commercials with the cannibalistic serial (cereal) killer are fantastic and horrifying. Especially the Dahmer one. I can't believe these got green-lighted, but so glad they did.

Scratching another state off my list this weekend. Couple of buddies and I are headed to Boise for a long weekend starting tomorrow (partially for my birthday - today - and partially just cuz we do this on a yearly basis). One of very few states I've never been to. It's typically a foursome that goes on these "guys weekends" but one guy just recently had a liver transplant (!!!!) and is still recovering. Last summer we went to Steamboat Springs. This year was supposed to be Knoxville (to make it easier for Mr. Liver since he lives in North Carolina) but we pivoted to Boise.

Gonna have some good eats, beers, float the river, ride bikes and talk plenty of smack.

Luke Bryan had the whole interstate closed earlier. Meanwhile I’m sitting in a community park festival watching my dad and son comprise 2/3 of the horn line of a 60’s/70’s cover band.

Pretty sure I’m at the better show.

P.S. @SWC (They rocked Brandy by none other than LookingGlass and just wailed on Joe Cocker’s version of The Letter).

Was this the thing at Sawyer Pointe? What band?
They were at a park in Ft. Mitchell. The band is called Second Chance. They don’t play out a ton, most recently they were at Jim and Jacks on the River , and I think they’ll play at the Aurora Farmers Fest. They used to play at Bircus but I think that place closed. Too bad, Beer + Circus Acts+ Bands was interesting.

I have a boat with a 25 year old trailer. I only use the trailer to launch it in the spring and retrieve it in the fall, but after years of not performing much in the way of maintenance the bearings finally failed and I need to replace them. I only use it in salt water so it's pretty badly corroded. What should have been a 15 minute job has now turned into a day long event, and I've only managed to finish one side.

Need to take a break to go buy more beer.

I would switch to bourbon and cigars and just look at it for another 6 weeks and have a case on standby for when the need gets realer.

My last comment may be tempered by the fact that the last thing I needed to do today (the first day in weeks that hasn’t felt like living inside a furnace ) after a good walk with dog and cutting the grass, was go spend $140 on bourbon and cigars. Yet here we are.

Peaches, plums, berries, apple, etc. All used to flavor other things or are used as a flavor for stuff like candy, ice cream, etc.

But nectarines? Nothing. What’s up with that? I love nectarines. They’re juicy, they’re sweet, they’re flavorful. They deserve more love.

Mom used to buy nectarines a lot as a kid
I celebrate the entire stone fruit catalog but these things have like a 1 day window for being good

Meh, subpar peach is all it is.
Peaches you gotta either peel or eat with the fuzzy skin. Nectarines? Just go to town.

Advantage: Nectarines

Agreed. I've seen some nectarine pastries from time to time this time of year. But both peaches and nectarines don't get enough love. Muffins, bread, I can think of a lot uses.

I am wondering if my body has become intolerant to alcohol.

On five separate occasions this year, I have had intense abdominal pain alongside other gastrointestinal symptoms. This has lasted for about a day. The common denominator seems to be consumption of alcohol and/or rich foods.

The last two occasions suggest a dose-response relationship. The first was on a business trip. I had one beer on the Friday night and one beer on the Saturday night, and the symptoms started on the Sunday morning. They were the mildest of any of the incidents. The most recent was after a concert where I had four beers over the course of a few hours. Less than 48 hours later, the symptoms started, and they were the worst of any of the incidents.

The day after the symptoms of the most recent incident appeared, I had a CT scan, which did not reveal anything abnormal. I have a history of diverticulosis that can flare up to diverticulitis, but the CT scan showed that was not what happened this time. (Which I figured because the pain feels different, and is in a different location, from my diverticulitis episodes.)

This week I had an ultrasound because my gastro doc wanted to rule out the gallbladder being involved. The gallbladder and everything else that could be seen on the ultrasound was normal.

A few weeks ago I went on vacation, and the week after that my wife and I went out to eat a lot because our son was away at camp. Both weeks I ate a lot (though I tried not to go overboard with fatty foods) but consumed no alcohol, and had no abdominal/gastrointestinal symptoms.

Next month I have a colonoscopy and endoscopy. If those don't reveal what's going on, and I continue to not have symptoms as long as I don't consume alcohol, then maybe my drinking days are done.

Had any blood work done lately?

Yes. Nothing unusual. In fact, 6 months ago my HbA1c was in the prediabetes range, and now it is not.

I had some of the same symptoms as you 10-12 years ago. I kept a journal of everything I ate/drank for about 6 months (dairy was an initial concern), but we couldn't find a common denominator for the abdominal pain. They checked my gall bladder a few times and it seemed fine, but that's what it ended up being and they yanked it out. It solved my initial problem, but others arose - can't drink coffee since (that stuff always ran through me on the best days) and my surgeon told me "don't assume it's a fart anymore" (he was right).

Hopefully, the colonoscopy and endoscopy can narrow it down.

I don't drink coffee so that won't be a loss. Odd that your gallbladder was the culprit despite seeming normal on initial tests.

In the TMI department, I've had one case of "shouldn't have assumed it was a fart."

All my gallbladder testing came back negative. They finally ordered a HIDA scan, which measures the ejection fraction. Mine was hyperactive (they want the ejection fraction to be between 30-80; mine was 93). They took it out and then found gallstones (which never showed up on any test), and that it was bleeding, and in terrible shape.

@Pip's Invitation - I assume they checked your pancreas? I had a bout of mild pancreatitis (with similar symptoms as you're describing) back in February and the doctors were baffled because I'm not a daily drinker nor did I have any gall stones.

Yes, the CT scan report says pancreas is normal. My wife was concerned about that because she has chronic pancreatitis and these were the kind of symptoms she was having before she was diagnosed.

I’m not sure if I’m just super cheap (yes) or if hotel prices have just gotten crazy (maybe also yes).

Trying to plan out a beach vacation within 5-6 hours of where we live in South Jersey and I just don’t see how the average person in thid country affords to go on vacation. A shabby motel near the beach easily runs $300-400 a night after taxes and fees. You can get a lower end chain with decent rooms for about that but you’ll be a mile inland. If you want an actual decent room near the beach you’re looking at $500+ a night easy for a room.

$3000+ for just the hotel for a week, assuming you only need one room, just seems like a lot of money. Especially if the hotel and/or location isn’t even all that great.

I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised. Disney is always packed and those vacations are $$$$.
