I've just watched 20 minutes straight of the Kardashian reality show. By myself. Remote in hand. Plenty of other options to turn to, yet I can't. A few observations:

π - I think I can finally start to talk to people about this family and I'm both suicidal and excited about this new development in my life.

π - The fact that I haven't made crock pot chicken to this show yet flaberghasts me. My wife won't be home for hours. My kids are with their mom. I have a fresh roll of paper towels. And yet....I'm watching this show DNIH. WTF?

π - I don't know which member of this family I hate the most. Scott is a front runner for sure, though the little brother is a doooooooooooosh of epic proportions.

π - Kourtney is hotter than Kim and it's not close.

π - I don't care what the tabloids say about the brevity of the Kim/Chris marriage, it's far longer than I ever would have lasted with her or her family. Holy crap is that guy a saint.

π - I don't think I'd look as good in a white suit as these guys and it really bothers me.

π - Bruce Jenner: Lose the little hair hat thing you got going on. That's awful. That's Maury's Wigs bad.

π - I wonder if Bora Bora bleached the entire island after this family left it.

π - Why can't serial killers ever target these folks?

π - During commericals, Ryan Secrest (like dhiareha and vaccuuum, i have no idea how this is spelled) hosts like a half time show or something in the world of reality stars. It makes Terry Bradshaw and Frank Calliento look like Tom Brokaw and Dan Rather.

π - All the movies I don't know exist and am surprised to read about in the 'Movie: Rental Edition" thread or from Frosty's reviews are advertised on this channel. They are not on ESPN, CNBC or Judge Judy.

I'm trying to think how night vision goggles might come in handy in my life and I really can't think of one instance where I might actually need them. Like...I don't think I've ever sat around in the dark and said to myself "man, if only I had night vision goggles right now"...why not just turn on a light?

Yeah, that's true, good point.Man, if only we could invent some sort of way to create light beams or some sort of portable device that would emanate light somehow...or perhaps we could come up with some sort of flaming apparatus that would burn bright with more fuel (like, wood or something).

This was almost as tempting as the time GM posted pics of Oregon cheerleaders. But I've tried to keep a strict G-rated approach to GMTAN FB people. Which is weird. Because to everyone else on FB I'm R rated and worse. I get the drift you all use FB differently though. It's a cleaner and family & business oriented. And your business isn't composed of stinky liberal poets and hippy professors.

What happened with all that? Sorry if I missed your update.

Hi GB. I'll be in Nica Dec. 16-26 and might or might not take care of it then.I probably shouldn't have described it as thievery. Here's what has happened: in two different instances, he has taken out money without asking me first for "emergencies" of people I don't even know, the latest being that he gave $250 to his girlfriend's brother's girlfriend who has a miscarriage and had medical bills. In each case, he's told me that he did it, after the fact.

In addition, he sends me a weekly report on finances, showing what he's taken out (he has an ATM card for a rarely used account of ours in which I just put money for him) and what he has used it for. Twice he has misstated the amounts taken out, and once it took two times for him to fix it after I pointed it out. Could be innocent mistakes; could be trying to get away with something.

So, I have appointments to interview two other people for the job while we're there in a couple of weeks. But I'm not convinced we'll make the change. He does an excellent job with the guests we have and is able to take care of problems and find a "guy" for anything we need. And he is not a bad person. We were warned in advance by other ex-pats that when you take on Nica employees, you end up taking on their whole families--paying for gifts for their kids, kids school, etc. It shouldn't be a surprise. It's just an odd mindset to us as Americans.

The two people I'm interviewing are both American ex-pats, and one seems like she would be fantastic for this. Just not sure yet that I want to give up and go with an American when if we do we are essentially putting three Nicaraguans out of jobs (cleaning girl, property manager, and friend of manager who has become a friend of ours as well and does a lot of helping out). I might give him a chance to get through the high season and then re-evaluate. Also because we are very seriously considering buying a second property, we could possibly split the responsibilities between two people.

I think and worry about this damn thing all the time. :(

Remind me to never get rich enough to buy foreign property.However, we are considering buying a house in the ole' collegetown. Since I'm funded for 4 years with a guaranteed gig, we thought we might just take the splash and buy a decent four bedroom house. We'd keep it when we move, get a property manager, and rent it out to college kids* for some extra income. Of course neither Mrs. DP (such a pornographic sounding moniker) or me have any experience with owning anything other than a VW Jetta**. So who knows if this goes down. Or if it blows up in our faces.

He tells me there won't really be much pain, but gave me a scrip for vicodin and 800 mg motrin. Says I should only need one vicodin tonight, and then switch to motrin and all should be fine. So why did he give me a scrip for 15 vicodin with 2 refills?

Anyway, I'm not really a painkiller guy. Would it be inappropriate to include a handful of vicodin in my SS package? If so, are we talking street value or do I just pro-rate my copay?

I let my wife's grandfather call me that because it makes him feel better about the bum his darling granddaughter married, but really I think of myself as a writer/artist, i.e. an overgrown kid who plays with words and paint and other stuff. Teaching is a gig. I'm good at it and like it, but it's just a gig in my mind. I'll be wearing t-shirts and jeans when I'm fifty, much like my hero.

I don't think I've ever personally heard a Polk sub, but their reputation for subs really blows.I have this guyand I love it. Its regarded as the best sub for under $200 over at AVS Forum. If you can spare the extra 85 bucks, it'll certainly be worth it. The only issue you may have with it is its size, its nearly a two foot cube.

been looking at BIC but 475 watts may be a bit much for sunday football

They have a gain knob on the back, I usually keep mine around 6 for TV and that keeps things well in control and the wife is yet to complain about too much noise. If I'm listening to music (the sub is pretty average for this, but for >$200 thats to be expected) or watching a movie I might spin it up to 8.
