Well - I made it through dad and lad camp. 105 in Missouri on Saturday. The heat was pretty bad but the kids all did pretty good. We had a raccoon invasion at 2:30 in the morning. Even with hanging the trash and keeping all the food locked down the came after it. One of thoe dad's woke and there was a huge coon about 3 feet from him. He could not go to sleep the rest of the night. The coons kept coming back for more every time we chased them off with a flashlight.

Next year I Briang my own tent. The ones the scouts provided wre horrible. Lesson learned.

Were you at Beumont/May camp too? F that place with and AIDS riddled dong.

as an fyi for you gramblers here, i recently took the plunge and bought a share of a yearling harness horse.

i have loved harness since my time in ny at yonkers, meadowlands, monticello and the old roosevelt. not sure of the lure, but getting outside to see the horses and analyzing the program always gave me pleasure. think it has been a dream to buy a harness horse forever......but the costs are CRZY. after much research, i got hooked up with vip internet stable, who syndicates relatively reasonably priced horses and you can buy shares and split the costs.

TROON is a rocknroll hanover son, who has many. he trained well in 2012 and won a pair of qualifiers, one at pocono downs and another at the big m. his first race was 6/29 in the 4th at the big m and he won his division of the john simpson memorial in 1:54.1 at 6/5. he is back in this friday at the big m, w.n. reynolds 7/6 in the 6th, post 9 (which sucks). ML is not up, but he should be better than those he is up against, many of whom ran slower last week in the other division.

not sure if anyone else has done this, but it has so far been a cool experience, any winnings is simply gravy imo.

Hey SLB -- I missed this one. Yeah - we were at Beaumont/Camp May. The heat was oppressive. The food sucked(good thing we packed snacks and some of our own food). The pool was the best part. We spent most of our time there after doing archery and bb guns. He wanted to get his belt loops for those two but i had no idea what we were supposed to do out there to get them. I want a belt loop just for surviving that damn thing. The racoons were pretty freaking bold.

Why did you hate it so much?

For me the cons would eventually outweigh the pros. She doesn't eat, cook, or drink beer? And has ####ty taste in music? Out. The picky eater thing is a deal breaker. Over the long term you'll either have to eat out all the time or conform to her tastes when you eat together at home. Forget it.

it seems like he wins every time he goes. I believe there are typically 12 rounds with each round having ~30 tickets being sold at $1/ea (i've done some online meat raffle research)... if you win, you've got to think you've made your money back and then some.

Yes, I've been pretty lucky for the most part though. Example: Last week I spent $9 on 4 rounds (2,2,2,3) of meat raffles. I won a $20 gift card for meat at the butcher. So, I was "up" $11 and I got drunk. They also gave away a free drink each round and I won that once as well. (shot of Jameson)It is certainly conceivable that you stay there for 10 rounds of meat raffling action and win nothing. :(Edit: Also, with the ones where the meat is right there in a cooler, winning at the end isn't nearly as good as the beginning since you get to pick which meatstuffs you like most.

A couple of weeks ago me and my brother got there for the last 2 rounds of meatrafflin'.

I only got one ticket for the 2nd to last round, which I didn't win. Then the last round came and they had an overabundance of tickets. It was for 5# of ground beef. We ended up going "all-in" and bought 5 tickets. We didn't win. So, -$6 there.

I posted about it a few weeks ago. Hot, bugs, raccoons, campsite was a 12 minute walk from the car, crappy tents, crappier food, nothing regimented, gift shop pressure. Yes, I've gotten spoiled.

Speaking of baking and other assorted queer activities...

I volunteered to bring cinnamon rolls to a 4th of July party. I had a tube of Pillbury dough so I baked the rolls for 10 minutes (as instructed). But I putzed around looking for tupperware to put them in and left them in the oven for 1.5 minutes longer than I was supposed to. I burned the bottom of all the rolls.

I then jizzed the icing on the rolls and brought them to the party anyway. I think I'll be delegated to bring drinks from now on.
