@zackcozart who is your favorite Star Wars character? I'm asking for a nerdy ifriend. TIA #reds #shuke
Dude. I've already emailed the organization with a complaint about the setup and was hoping they'd give us some private meeting. Now he sees this he's going to think it's some hoax.
I don't think that's Cozart's real twitter

My brother's wife is pregnant with their first child. She is at 29 1/2 weeks and they flew out to Colorado for her best friend's wedding. Her water broke today, and she will be having the baby very early in the next 24-48 hours, after being airlifted from bum#### Colorado to Denver. After that they will have to keep the baby in Denver for however long it takes for the kid to get healthy, so my brother and his wife are stranded in a different state with a very premature baby while all their family is Minnesota, as well as their jobs which will have to be put on hold. Not to mention finding a place to live for anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months, all while not working. I can't imagine a worse situation, and right now I'm imagining the baby's health as "all good" because I can't imagine how to deal with all this otherwise. And I have no idea what to do.Thoughts, prayers, wishes, etc. are all good.
####. good luck to them.

Business suggestion of the day...

Darren wanted desperately to have sex with this really cute, really hot girl in his office. But she was dating someone else.

One day Darren got so frustrated that he went to her and said I'll give you $100 if you let me have sex with you. The girl looked at him and then said, "NO!"

Darren said, "I'll be real fast. I'll throw the money on the floor, you bend down and I'll finish by the time you've picked it up." She thought for a moment and said that she would consult with her boyfriend. So she called him and explained the situation. Her boy friend says, "Ask him for $200 and pick up the money really fast. He won't even be able to get his pants down. Then give me a call." She agreed and accepts the proposal.

Over half an hour goes by and the boyfriend is still waiting for his girlfriend's call.

Finally, after 45 minutes the boyfriend calls and asks, "What happened?" Still breathing hard, she managed to reply, "The ******* had all quarters!"

Management lesson:

Always consider a business proposition in its entirety before agreeing to it and getting screwed.

Saw a FB post from a relative of mine thanking her "awesome" husband for buying her 50 Shades of Grey - resisted the urge to comment "He's not really buying it for you".

My nephew turns two next Monday. Suggestions for a present would be appreciated. He's a great kid, and seems as though he is going to be a natural athlete. My MIL has asked that we give no presents, and that we put a little money in his savings fund. We'll do that, but I also want to do a little something for the kid. It's not his fault that his father is in prison and his mother is a depressed drug addict.

I'd go with a chunky Spiderman action figure.

iPhone or an InnoTAB. I would recommend the latter, $50-ish I believe. If you want something more sporty, Walmart has plastic balls in sizes all from tennis balls to big beach balls that our 2 yr old likes. Tons of colors, and can be used indoors too, because they're soft and won't break anything.I think the plastic balls are between $1 and $3

Thanks for the suggestions thus far. We've looked at all of them. One other thing to mention is that this kid, as smart as he seems (just very aware, very expressive with eyebrows, eyes, etc.), isn't talking yet. He utters little things here and there, but thus far, some semblance of "more" is the most distinguishable word I've heard from him.

So I think I'd like to get him something to help him speak, count, etc. All I know is LeapFrog stuff. And Baby Mozart stuff? Just going off of memory from what I've gotten other friends from their registries.

Also, is two really late for speech development?

I'd be all about books for the kid, but honestly, I'm not sure he's getting read to at all. And  for not having noticed that until now. But this is also the kid who totes around a sippy cup full of Coca-Cola. Drive me NUTS.

Maybe you could read to him then? We could just be lucky, but we read a ton of books to our 2.5 yr old and he loves them and has a pretty good vocabulary. It can't hurt, imo.

I would, but this is one of the many faults of the SIL/MIL. Even though they have no money and a suffocating amount of debt, they still buy him anything and everything seasonal (new July 4th outfit, for instance), and/or anything they deem cute.So clothes are the one thing the kid will always have. SIL has named us as his guardians in the event that something happens to her when her husband gets out of prison in the Fall, so I guess we just have a bit more interest in making sure the kid gets learning tools, fun tools, etc. instead of thematic clothing.

Damn, my wife told me tonight she is going to be donating a bunch of the boys toys to charity. Would probably cost a fortune shipping it all.

Kid and my SIL live with my in-laws. Great point about the money - she has lied and/or stolen before. Am thinking of a bond or something instead.

Finally started watching Breaking Bad. Five episodes in. This show is pretty good.

YSR> Agree on it being a deposit in an account that the mom can't access. We've had to go through my stuff like this with my little sister.

I'm going to be in Portland for a conference from the 22nd to the 25th for anyone (looking at you, GM) interested in cornholing. Tuesday and Wednesday are most likely nights for free time. Most importantly, I'm going to be on my own. I'm going to miss the boys but four days without them sounds like a little slice of heaven.

511 North Columbus Drive
oh.guess there's more than 1 downtown location.

not a whole lot over there from what I can think of.

Purple Pig is a very good restaurant nearby. Billy Goat also close.

Probably better off walking West a bit.
So so good. I got the morcilla (Spanish blood sausage) - fantastic - and the Octopus - cooked perfectly, amazing
Your facebook pic looked as gross as this sounds.

YSR - Slow speech at 2 is a little unusual for typical development but not unheard of. If he get closer to 2.5 with little speech they might consider a speech therapist but kids are going to be different. It can also be a sign of autism and the other two major things they look for are social interaction, usually at this age meaning sustained eye contact or interest in other kids their age, and any kind of super-repetitive behavior or fascination with a particular subject or toy - cars or things that spin for instance.

If yous see evidence of that kind of behavior you should encourage them to be given the ADOSS test before he is 3 and they can make an official diagnosis. Having him diagnosed with even just speech delay can qualify him for health insurance paid speech therapy (if they have insurance) and certain publicly funded school programs. In both just regular speech delay and autism, early recognition and treatment is the key

Look at the InnoTAB, especially since they won't read to him. (Otherwise books all the way)

I didn't talk till I was 3. By 4 I was reading at a 3rd grade level. Don't sweat it.
True enough for some, not for others.

If I can't remember even using it I highly doubt it played a big role in my development. She could buy the kid an iphone/innotab or give the kid a cardboard box and it wouldn't matter, IMO. The biggest thing is just to give the kid attention, stimulation, and TLC.

So our neighbors go on vacation. We usually grab their mail for them but our vacations overlapped this year. So they ask the really, really nice Korean family across the street who have lived here almost 2 years to hold their mail. Something was lost in the transition and the Koreans threw all of their mail away. Interesting conversation when they went to pick up their mail. NO MAIL FOR YOU!

Everybody gives my kids toys. So many toys that can't even play with them all. ####, we have toys still in the package around here. We've given 5x the amount of toys I ever had growing up to the poor already. Clothes are expensive and #### adds up quick. Especially when you have a wife that is "too good" to check out a thrift store to buy or sell clothes. I've already begun to instruct people to stop buying them stuff altogether but if they really feel like they must do something, clothes or savings bonds please.YSR, give him a savings bond in a decent sized box he can play in. He'll love it.ETASeriously, the "toy" by boys play with the most is the box the patio set came in. I bought that, what, 4 months ago?
