My brother's wife is pregnant with their first child. She is at 29 1/2 weeks and they flew out to Colorado for her best friend's wedding. Her water broke today, and she will be having the baby very early in the next 24-48 hours, after being airlifted from bum#### Colorado to Denver. After that they will have to keep the baby in Denver for however long it takes for the kid to get healthy, so my brother and his wife are stranded in a different state with a very premature baby while all their family is Minnesota, as well as their jobs which will have to be put on hold. Not to mention finding a place to live for anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months, all while not working. I can't imagine a worse situation, and right now I'm imagining the baby's health as "all good" because I can't imagine how to deal with all this otherwise. And I have no idea what to do.Thoughts, prayers, wishes, etc. are all good.

iPhone or an InnoTAB. I would recommend the latter, $50-ish I believe.If you want something more sporty, Walmart has plastic balls in sizes all from tennis balls to big beach balls that our 2 yr old likes. Tons of colors, and can be used indoors too, because they're soft and won't break anything.I think the plastic balls are between $1 and $3

So I think I'd like to get him something to help him speak, count, etc. All I know is LeapFrog stuff. And Baby Mozart stuff? Just going off of memory from what I've gotten other friends from their registries.

Maybe you could read to him then? We could just be lucky, but we read a ton of books to our 2.5 yr old and he loves them and has a pretty good vocabulary. It can't hurt, imo.

YSR - Slow speech at 2 is a little unusual for typical development but not unheard of. If he get closer to 2.5 with little speech they might consider a speech therapist but kids are going to be different. It can also be a sign of autism and the other two major things they look for are social interaction, usually at this age meaning sustained eye contact or interest in other kids their age, and any kind of super-repetitive behavior or fascination with a particular subject or toy - cars or things that spin for instance.

If yous see evidence of that kind of behavior you should encourage them to be given the ADOSS test before he is 3 and they can make an official diagnosis. Having him diagnosed with even just speech delay can qualify him for health insurance paid speech therapy (if they have insurance) and certain publicly funded school programs. In both just regular speech delay and autism, early recognition and treatment is the key

I didn't talk till I was 3. By 4 I was reading at a 3rd grade level. Don't sweat it.

If I can't remember even using it I highly doubt it played a big role in my development.She could buy the kid an iphone/innotab or give the kid a cardboard box and it wouldn't matter, IMO. The biggest thing is just to give the kid attention, stimulation, and TLC.

Everybody gives my kids toys. So many toys that can't even play with them all. ####, we have toys still in the package around here. We've given 5x the amount of toys I ever had growing up to the poor already. Clothes are expensive and #### adds up quick. Especially when you have a wife that is "too good" to check out a thrift store to buy or sell clothes. I've already begun to instruct people to stop buying them stuff altogether but if they really feel like they must do something, clothes or savings bonds please.YSR, give him a savings bond in a decent sized box he can play in.
