GM's thread about nothing (49 Viewers)

I think I've stated before that if I was gay and looks weren't important, I'd be all over GM like white on rice (or him) But after reading about the mysterious power of Guster-Smooches, I'm thinking I'd make out with him without being gay. I'm not really sure what that means.

Just bail on SJ and go to SF for the evening. San Jose is dullsville.
Yeah. Just imagine if one of us had to go to Gary or Winnetka. You'd tell us to go into Chicago.
They have an NHL Franchise! (And the 49ers will be playing there in 2 years also)Hotel is booked already. Will have a rental car though so I guess I'll plan to go somewhere else and sleep in San Jose. Looks like there's 2 card rooms within 5 minutes of the hotel.Anything to see in Palo Alto? I've been to SF and Oakland. Didn't realize SJ had so little to offer.

What do you want to do? Restaurants, bars, clubs, shows, that sort of thing?

As a life-long Orioles fan, it has been a long time since post season baseball has had an impact on my social plans. I have a buddy who has been living in Europe for the last 12 years and he's landing in Boston Friday afternoon and a few of us are meeting him and his cousin in Boston and going out to dinner and getting Charlie Sheen level wasted before crashing in a Hotel that we'll probably get kicked out of. Most likely my Orioles will be playing in the "Wild Card" game on Friday night. I'm gonna have to make sure we're in a bar with a tv so I can watch the game and stay somewhat sober enough to follow the game. It's kind of been nice for the last 14 years to not have to worry about missing a playoff game. But ultimately my O's being in it makes me as happy as Homer at a Sweet 16 party.

not sure.just wondering what people do when they visit San Jose besides go to Santana Row.
The thing is that San Jose isn't a place a lot of people "visit". People live there and work there.
alright, well I won't be there for long.if people live there, I figured there had to be a decent restaurant or bar somewhere. I don't care about a freaking museum or broadway show.didn't realize it was the most boring place on earth apparently.

There's a Famous Dave's. I know that much.

I had to fly to San Jose for business a lot. Other than going to Santana Row, there is nothing to do. I ended up hanging out at the British pub at the airport so much waiting for flights home I started dating one of the bartenders there.

That's pretty much all there is to do in San Jose. There are some other bars/small clubs in downtown SJ, but nothing particularly remarkable. Palo Alto has some decent bars, but they tend to be overrun with Stanford students. The south bay is a nice place to live, but there's really nothing an out-of-town visitor needs to see or do there.

Nickel City is a pretty cool arcade. They charge you a $2 admission, and there are a bunch of free "classic" games and some newer games as well.

Maybe you can use some of Jimmy C's tickets to get a prize.

Oh, I thought of something; you can go down to Tully road and visit little Saigon or whatever they call it and get some kickass Vietnamese food. That's worth doing.

GM, making you a one-time offer to just leave these ****-clowns and become an A's fan.

1) Same colors as the Ducks, and half of Oregon alums are from CA anyway. Color/team symbiosis.

2) A's manager isn't responsible for thousands of cartel-related deaths in Mexico b/c of his drug habit.

3) A's center-fielder isn't responsible for THOUSANDS of cartel-related deaths in Mexico b/c of his drug habit.

4) Did I mention the colors? You know...GREEN? My link

5) Are almost definitely going to win the World Series.

6) Very similar scenario to Major League, where owner wants to move the team but scrappy upstarts defy all odds. There's even a guy on the team who was in the CA Penal League.

7) Noted Twitter hottie and A's-wife Amanda McCarthy has promised a "trombone" to every Athletics fan if they make the WS.

Offer expires at midnight. Stu and BentRlrRRLey, you guys too.

You could go and try to pick up a girl at the Florence + The Machine concert at Shoreline Amphitheatre, imo. The house the Dead built.

Santana Row (it's an outdoor mall with condos) is where the older crowd goes to party. Pretty much the closest thing to a "down town" experience. Bunch of bars and restaurants. Vbar at Valencia Hotel is ok for a few drinks and see if there are any cougars lurking. Straits is a solid place to dance closes at midnight. There's also a tequila bar that is pretty fun place to have some drinks. The crowd does skew older so haven't really checked out the other restaurants/bars that are open late.If you want the college/20 something crowd you can head to downtown San Jose by SJSU. Between Market and 2nd street are a bunch of bars/clubs/lounges that you can hop around. The best free one is Loft but again it is a younger crowd and Myth Taverna is "the spot" right now. There's a cool speakeasy type bar called Singlebarrel. They make custom cocktails and is good place to chill. You can have fun in San Jose but there's a reason it's called Man Jose by locals. If you want something close by after long flight the night life isn't bad. Otherwise go to San Francisco or Palo Alto.

Starting up my own practice on no notice is freaking crazy. Every day I'm on a rollercoaster thinking I'm going to lose everything and I should just get a job, with moments of thinking I'm actually going to succeed. I also found out through my contacts in the industry that my old firm is actively trying to sabotage me.

Had a couple meetings today that went really well. Signed a new client today, with promises of a couple more by the end of next week. In the meantime, I'm working on an absolute shoestring with a pile of unpaid bills staring at me.

Should have a website up by the end of next week. I can't even afford to go get drunk, so I spent the evenings the last few days watching the first 3 seasons of Breaking Bad.

You should decorate your new office like Saul's.
