GM's thread about nothing (23 Viewers)

There are four US states I haven't been to: Both Dakotas (why do we need two?) and Alaska make sense. The fourth is Oregon. What the hell is the matter with me? On paper that state is made for me.(Thinking of this as I consider whether we can make the Oregon trip given a developing situation with the Nicaragua move.)
Working on plans to hit Portland in mid-August
I had hoped to do this, but I will instead be at the Ancestral Wellness symposium in Atlanta. Ugh. Atlanta in August, how refreshing.
Ooooooooof. I'm sure there's a Wellness symposium SOMEWHERE in Oregon in August. Probably one right now, too. And yesterday. And every day up here.
I just had a brilliant idea... Maybe there is some way to work a meditation retreat into my trip so my company will pay for it. Hmm....

I just learned that in my next 3 month phase of training, i'll be doing a lot of applied creativity. as part of that, I get to pick any one "thing" and learn how to do it. The last person to go through the training chose two actually - learning how to paint water colors and learning how to play guitar. I'm still a couple months away from this point (still reading books, meditating and watching videos), but figured it was worth throwing out here for suggestions...
1. Music reviews / writing. Great excuse to attend a ton of concerts.

2. Movie reviews. See above.

3. Food critic. See above above.

4. Sculpting. Make a cheap and crappy studio in your garage. Spend 2 hours a day listening to choice music, smoking weed, and playing with clay.

5. Directing. Make a documentary where you travel the nation interviewing members of an online community about how it's affected their lives, how they explain it to others, what an online friendship means, etc. This may also involve music, food, and marijuana.

*call me crazy, but #5 actually sounds like a solid idea.
I have connections in to #3&5 already... 1 would be awesome and I think could find a way to work it in to phase 1 pretty well (and maybe add in a photography angle). Hmm...

Life update:

As of this morning, I am legally divorced in the eyes of the State of Texas.

TPW appreciated.
Congrats and good luck, GBJT. Going through the divorce was really hard for me and the time after I alternated between relief, regret, disappointment and occasional happiness. I hope it works out for the best and you know that there are plenty on here that are willing to help however we can.
This. Literally word for word what I would say.

Also, not sure how long you were married, but you should try to bang someone soon. Anyone, don't be picky. The first time after divorce is going to be strange, awesome and awkward. Get it out of your system.

I love you
Thank you.

Update:

This is already done. Agree with strange, awesome, and awkward and would like to add wow!
My marriage anniversary is your divorce anniversary

:banned:

ETA: you coming in for the A&M game this year?

Ok, I got to ask - what kind of bull#### job do you have exactly?

I don't fully understand what your asking, so if my reply doesn't satisfy your comment, please ask more questions!

My job is to work with teams and help them be more productive. The current charge of my team is to turn a $10,000,000,000.00+ business into a more productive, more profitable and more innovative ecosystem. Changing a business of this scale is obviously not a trivial challenge.

Happy to answer any specific questions you might have, but just not sure what you're looking for. It's obviously not an ordinary job, but the practices we use as our basis are tried and true and rooted in human psychology.

That said, I'm very much in learning mode as my education is in engineering and my work history is in consumer research and product development

Hey Tre, is there a link somewhere to donate for your neice
There is...I'll post something tomorrow. Thanks.
I'll be on the lookout.

Thoughts and prayers
Ok - for any that don't know, my 2 year old niece Nora has stage 4 neuroblastoma. This is a cancer that starts in the adrenal glands and in her case has resulted in a large tumor in her abdomen and another in her skull. She's been through three rounds of chemo so far and after 6 months may have surgery to remove the abdominal tumor. Her original prognosis is that she has a 50/50 shot.

There is a benefit scheduled for her in August, with a raffle and silent auction. They are accepting silent auction items still I think. Link here

If you'd just like to donate to help out the family, you can do that here. That link also contains some more info about what she's going through.

Thanks to Mr. Pack and the rest of you that have or will pass along well wishes. We don't need to bog down the thread with them, we all cancer and it's family is a ####.

Requisite pic of Nora and my son Declan at her 2nd birthday party.
Had no idea, very sorry to hear. Had some friends go through this with their son. He pulled through and is in remission years later, and his situation was very bleak.

Whoa, what the hell?

Ok, when I saw this earlier, I thought maybe I just had a bad notebook.

Joe T > it seems like you've caught a lot of us off guard here. Was that intentional? Why?

How are you holding up? If you've already started exploring the fresh poon, surely you know well enough to share pics

Had dinner with NerdyChick and her girlfriend tonight
NerdyChick got drunk early and passed out, so I had lots of time with her girlfriend...

She's a really cool chick that I would get aglow fabulously with if she wasn't already dating one of my friends

Friggin' morals

I work in an office of 8 people...

2 of them are gone next week

2 others are working on the finishing touches of a special project

2 are admins

That leaves me and the guy that sits next to me

Pretty sure I'll be logging bonus hours in the FFA. Might start some new random threads.

Warning has been given...

I'm not easily impressed, but Tatiana Maslany is doing a great job in Orphan Black.
btw, thanks for mentioning this. hadn't heard of the show before your post but decided to check it out and it's pretty great.
Just started watching, really enjoying it so far... Oh and I would do naughty things to the lead actress
Which one of her is your favorite?
Only part way through the first episode (doesnt seem like the sort of show to watch in front of my daughter), so I've only see 2 to date. But obviously the trampy Brit
Just finished season one (all that is on DirecTV)... Absolutely fantastic show so far.

No way is season two as good as season one and I hope they don't drag this out to be some huge multi-season thing.

They have laid out enough of the plot that they need to start coming it a resolution. A half season resolution followed by a full season spinoff could work well here depending which angle the spin into a new season/series

So, I had an EGD today. Actually a follow up EGD from a previous one performed in December. When I woke up in recovery, the doctor was there with pictures of my esophagus. Said it looked much improved than 6 months previous, but then he pointed to an area of discoloration and said, "We took a sample of these cells for a biopsy." So hearing that sucked. He didn't seem to worried, but since my dad died of esophageal cancer, I'm kinda freaking out. Should know something middle of next week.

Drinking all day and going to see Cake at Summerfest tomarrow. Slap it high
:hifive:

One of the first bands I ever saw live. At the Bronco Bowl. Any of you DallasGuys remember that place?
yes indeed! Saw Love & Rockets there way way way back. A young and horribly out of tune/out of talent Janes Addiction opened up and was booooood openly as Perry Ferrel barked at the crowd. Good times.

Has to be stressful, best of luck. Sounds like he wasn't that concerned.

Very high...

love me some Cake. Actually would be tempted to make the run up there for that, weather looks like it's going to be crappy though.
Great tunes for strippers, I've found.

They play at 10 so hopefully the weather is clear by then.
Kid (13) is a big Cake fan. Just sent them an email about age restrictions at the Miller Lite Oasis stage. Would love to bring him up there for his first show.

Really? Did not know that. I don't know how they would enforce it. Dropkick Murphy's are there tonight and my GB went with his 15 year old cousin.

Taking my wife in for a spinal tap tomorrow, so they can determine if she has some elevated pressures causing her headaches.

We have to catch a break soon. The docs she's seeing now aren't as liberal with the pain meds, which is probably for the better but means she gets super stressed out about having to ration what they prescribe, because she needs them to take the edge off.

Also have her scheduled for a sleep study since she is waking up with them every morning.

But this is the worst I've ever seen her. I'm doing everything I can to try to keep her fighting, but she continues to spiral down in depression.

To make things much worse, her mom and her are not really speaking. My MIL is convinced these are "all in her head" and my wife feels this is very hurtful, and told her so about a month ago. They both have some anger issues and are very stubborn, so not sure what's going to happen. I talked to my MIL yesterday and was furious with her, although I did my best not to be an ###hole.

Sorry for the rambling. I've been wanting to get this stuff off my chest but I hate typing long posts and bothering people with this ####.

Sorry to hear you are going through this uncertainty and fear. I'll keep you on the forefront of my mind this week and will celebrate when we learn this is nothing to be worried about.

Send me more of that chili mix. Just in case.
