GM's thread about nothing (46 Viewers)

That's pretty much standard procedure for walks like that K4. I'm guessing the majority of the money will go to help victims family's and stuff. I think it's also a way to weed out slackers and get people that really committed to the cause. The walks that myself and Mrs. SLB have done were the same way.

GLGB
Weird, I've done a lot of walks and have never come across a threshold like this. Maybe St. Louis is just ritzier. ;)
lololololololol

Agree that $1000 is steep though. I think the MS Walk was $500 for first timers and $1000-$1500 for repeat walkers though.

Just so i understand.... i donate a little bit of money and pay my entry fee but i don't raise 1000 i can't walk?

How does that make sense... i have to have their predetermined threshold to prove i believe in their cause?
They may have other factors involved, such as their permit to stage the event is limited to a certain number of participants and they've judged that that's the most they can charge and still reach that limit. In other words, if they charged less they'd have to turn participants away and they'd leave money on the proverbial table because some of those being turned away had raised more than some who had already been given a spot.
OK, if this is the case, I get it.
Yeah- it's not a 5k that takes an hour to get people in and out. Overnight, almost a full day... I'm sure there's a fair bit of overhead. Plus it's a great cause.

fwiw- I did a couple of Tris with Team in Training, one of which I had to raise 2500 (granted, it was in another state and our race-entry, meals, air-fare and hotel were paid for by signing up)

Drifter, the cover story in the May issue of Seattle magazine is about five road trips, the fifth of which is a Seattle to San Diego family-truckster vacation. You might wish to check it out!

Speaking of the Driftwold vacation, when do you get back? It looks like an ideal date for our snout-to-tail dinner would be July 12. Would this date work for the Seattle contingent, GM, Da, or anyone else who might come?
We may be in Detroit then, though there is a chance that I will leave earlier than the rest of the troops. I'll know more once we book our tickets. I also need to confirm our Ducks game in the fall. The FedEx driver broke some ribs and I haven't seen him in over a month. He's my dance partner for ticket trades.

Also, on top of this awesome Pig-to-Snout hole, I'd love to organize a trip to Emerald Downs for some horse racing. Nothing better than a warm summer day at the track.

Have a few family members who do the Komen walk every year and I think the minimum they have to get in donations is $2.5k. Pretty crazy amount of money but I guess if they didn't set minimum thresholds people wouldn't be as determined to go out and raise money.
Komen is just a business, imo.
100% :goodposting:

Am I the only one who doesnt like pancakes?
Did you miss the previous 30-page discussion of pancakes in this very thread? GM believes they are just for kids and real men never order them.
Have some eggs and meat like a man.
I had EIGHT pieces of bacon with my FIVE griddle patties.

:lmao:

I do have his phone number, so maybe I'll text him to firm up details.

The squirrel was stationary and in a parking spot on the side of the road. She slowed down, drove into the parking space where the squirrel was, running him over, than swerved back into the lane.Stupid whore.
Are we positive she was aiming for the squirrel?

Maybe she missed her real target.
The parking space? It was after all a woman driving.
Hmm....that's an excellent point. Hadn't considered that.

Given that, can we safely deduce that the driver was on her period, tweeting a selfie(#duckLips!), while talking on the phone about shoes, tried to park, hit the squirrel, got hysterical and fled the scene?
She was a fat troll like looking beast that probably didn't graduate from grade school. I probably only have 3 lives left at the most too so best she didn't hit me. I could really use an extended vacation though.

Pancakes and sausage is one of the all time best hangover breakfasts right after chicken friend steak and eggs and a smothered breakfast burrito.

There are some places that crepes, FOR LUNCH!!! They don't even put syrup on them or serve them with eggs & hash browned potatoes!!!
Too lazy to do. ascii art on phone....places like that...

Yeah, that's kind of a big difference. ;)

Also, look at me, I do Tris!

Plate of Puerto Rican or Dominican rice and black beans with eggs is my go-to. One of the local places has a mango shake thing that makes the world sing. they also have a guy who is there every time I've ever been there (night or day) who orders the same basic thing (plus a protein of some kind) and uses- I #### you not- an entire 32oz container of ketchup on it. We call him K-man.

Well, not looking so good anyway if Drifter and roverfish aren't around.

You guys have other dates in July that could work? I can't do the following weekend.

Did. not do. There is no do, only did.

Did another with them right here in the city, and that was still somewhere around 1500.

I have no other plans at the moment besides those first two weekends.

Any Seattle folks care to check out any of the Zoo concerts this summer? Tickets go on sale to members on Wednesday. All around $30 but I think you need to pay zoo admission as well if you're not a member. I'm happy to pick up extras if anyone wants to go to any.

Shows I'm eyeing are:

August 6 - Taj Majal Trio/John Hiatt & The Combo

August 17 - Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue / Galactic

August 24 - Ziggy Marley
Yup, I'm with this guy. I've seen Trombone Shorty twice. Better than Pearl Jam.

Yeah, I did Team in Training once to try and get in the pants of a girl after my divorce. Got my company to donate the money as there was no way I was going to hit up people for money. Good cause and all, but man, some of those Team in Training folks could use a good qualude (sp?).

July is pretty busy for me in general. :(

But, I will be coming up to Seattle this summer for sure. I have a college friend that lives in Greenlake that we are planning to see, just haven't firmed down a time yet. I'm sure the Mariners will be 45 games out of first place by August, but I'd love to take my boys to a game. Seattle in the summer is simply marvelous.

oh yeah. the cult o' purple. I did two and did the fundraising myself (no corp), but those people freaked me the #### out. horrible reputation on race-courses, even if they're bottom-line just gung-ho (PUMPED!!11!@) and doing a good deed.

Galactic is ok - they're more a classic fusion-with-funk outfit. I'd sit through them just to get to Shorty, though they can get a little boring in large doses.

Has anyone from here ever interviewed anyone from here for a regular gig? If so, how did you explain the basis for your relationship in the group interview?

"See there's this place where we use the relative anonymity of the web to trash our family and coworkers among other things."

Asking for a friend.

I'll be driving through Chicago... shuke and I can pick you up on our way to beerhole (July 11/12, and possibly 13th if we want to stay on for the World Cup final?). :banned:
