GM's thread about nothing (26 Viewers)

Ever think you're just going to drop a small fart and no one will notice and it ends up having enough volume to fill a hot air balloon and smells like a sulfur spring?

I haven't

I know I've mentioned the annual trivia contest thing in here numerous times.

I guess there was some doubt as to the tournament being held this year. It's a fundraiser for the Cal State soccer team and the coach that organizes the contest just left for greener pastures. Turns out they're still doing it.

I get this email the other day from the old professor of mine that serves as the team "captain". She said that although they are having the contest this year she was considering not putting a/our team together this year.

Her reason? Because we've won the last 3 years in a row and "the lousy reception our consecutive victories" gets from the other teams. :lmao:

Then she asked what everybody else thought. I just politely replied with "I think we play again this year and continue to try our hardest". I was tempted to call her a Communist and ask "did the mother-jumping 1980s Lakers sit out a year? Do you think John Wooden 'called off the dogs' because people grew tired of watching UCLA win? Not sure about you but I want to be the G-D Dan Gable of 'The Brains of Bakersfield'".

Still not sure if we're going to have a team or not. If she doesn't want to enter this year I'll put myself on the market as a free agent. I won't settle for less than my entry fee ($40) and at least 20 drink tickets.
*****UPDATE******

Team "Captain" just sent out an email stating that she is not participating this year. Another team member, a Management/Marketing prof, replied that he wants to reform/take over the team and included an invite to me.

Not sure if I want to join his "new" team or not. He's a sharp guy and obviously has the eye of the tiger but I don't know him except through this contest. There is one other team that has 3-4 people I know from a bar trivia night that I used to participate (rhymes with dominate) in. They usually only do OK in the contest but they seem to have a lot of fun. They also seem to drink quite a bit.

I must reflect.

Looks like Romo is going to be gone for another 3 weeks. I thought he was coming home next weekend.

I wasn't going to try to brave the 12 hour drive with a 10-month-old, but SLB, looks like we're heading your way Friday. RIP YSR and YSR 2.0 and YSR 2.0.1.
What time do you think you'll be coming through?
I'll likely try to hit the road early, say 8:00. With inevitable infant stops, probably puts me in SL around rush hour? Neat.
I'll pick up a couple of cases of wine.

Hey SLB, update on your schlong?
Appointment is tomorrow but feeling better. Right now I'm thinking it was chigger bites. The itching is gone and the bumps are consistent with chigger bites. After thinking about it, I did lay on the ground Friday during my walk to grab a Titleist that was OB at the gold course. Really considering canceling the appointment since they are going away as well but I guess I better keep it just in case. Plus there is another spot on the helmet that is different than the others....

Yeast infection.

Spraying a shirt with Febreze and putting it in the dryer for 15 minutes so it gets its shape back is just as good as washing it, right? Asking for a friend.

My daughters' school is in a district that received a threat of violence for tomorrow (Thurs.). I am 99.9% sure nothing will happen, but plenty of parents are keeping their kids home tomorrow just in case. And even if it is nothing, the kids are already aware, talking about it, and in some cases pretty scared.

My first reaction was if we don't go to school then these aholes that did this have already won. But whats the point of putting them at .0001% risk or even with no risk having them be scared?

I trust you guys input in here.. Thoughts?

ETA: My girls are 1st and 4th grade.

Local news story

SAN ANTONIO — School districts throughout San Antonio sent letters home to parents Monday informing them of an anonymous threat of a mass shooting at an unspecified elementary school.

An email threatening the violence was sent last weekend to numerous Northside Independent School District officials at various elementary schools and its central office. San Antonio Police Department officials met Monday morning with school district police chiefs to coordinate a response.

Officials do not believe the threat is credible but are taking it seriously, Police Chief William McManus said Monday.

I honestly don't know what I would do in this situation, but even just reading this makes my stomach hurt.

That was my initial thought as well. I'm going to keep the appointment.

First let me say that I hate people.

When something like this has happened around here, they have closed the school. I think I would lobby the district to do that if I were you.

GLGB :(

Oof

WTF makes a parent gamble with their kid?!! We have a threat, probably nothing, but your kid's school might get shot up tomorrow so just in case it does happen, don't say when didn't tell you so.

People gamble with their kid every day they put them in a car, send them to school, feed them meat that might be overcooked, etc. It's about the assessment of the probability of that threat.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I get that and I guess I should have qualified it. That's all relatively random though. Why even bring this "threat" up if there is nothing to it? Shut it down.

Everything and everyone is annoying the piss out of me today. Probably because I haven't really slept in three days.

go do something fun with them

I'm probably going to be in Pittsburgh next week of anyone wants to grab a beer or twelve.
Where will you be staying?
Not certain yet. Business is out in Duquesne/McKeesport area but I'm going to look into staying closer to Pittsburg proper as I really only have to be out there for a few hours.
Pack your Kevlar.
Yeah, stay either in downtown or in Monroeville (closest areas to get to Duquesne/McKeesport) That's not a great area.

I live in Washington, PA about 25-30 miles southwest of downtown and work in Robinson Twp near the airport
I stayed in Monroeville last time. Never felt unsafe but there's nothing around there except a Primantis.Staying downtown this time and I'll have Thursday evening free if anyone wants to have a beer. Wish I was getting in early enough to go to the Pirates game but it's a 12:35 start.
There is a lot more in Monroeville than just Primanti's...Business Rt 22 is called 'The Miracle Mile' for all the shops and restaurants there.Where at in Dahntahn?

oh, and Monroeville isn't that bad....Duquesne and Mckeesport on the other hand, not so much
Doubletree. Don't send one hundred pizzas but if you want to send one hooker, that's cool.

Buck, I'm not going to tell you how to protect your kids, but maniacs that are going to shoot up a school do not normally provide a heads-up. This is most likely a nut bag who wants to disrupt the standardized testing going on right now.
