I pretty much figured that. I really wanted to get down to Soho to try Lombardi's, but we were just too wiped out. Over 9 hours in the car the day before and another 2 that morning + the game.

Meh. I'm skeptical of the Paleo 'knowledge' and think it is an over-rated diet which for most people can be accomplished simply by 'moderation' - but I'm not going to wander in there and take the bulls by the horns. I don't pretend to know what's going on and I'm certainly not going to preach to anyone.

college football opinion (more than likely wrong)

This week's marquee matchup will be Utah @ USC

USC initially opened as a 10 1/2 point favorite and that number was quickly knocked down to 10, now 9 1/2 and 9 at some books. The reason for the Utah love is easy to see, as USC opened pretty uninspiring against an inferior Minnesota team, and won by just 2 (full disclosure I took the 24 1/2 points last week, way too many). Also, Utah has perennially been a pretty strong team, at least when you look at their overall won/loss record. But, in the now famous tag line of Lee Corso, not so fast my friend. Utah has enjoyed beating the lesser teams of the MWC over the past few years and now moves into a much tougher Pac-12. Utah has some decent talent, but are predominately under sized/under speed against the higher quality opponents. One game that sticks out in my mind from last year was when TCU rolled into town and thumped them like a red-headed step child, 47-7. Now, last year's TCU team was very good, but they absolutely flat out dominated them at Utah. Final result could have been much worse than it actually was, and it just goes to show what better athletes can do against mediocre teams. Jordan Wynn is not necessarily a world beater back there at QB, and the best player, second best player, third best player and probably 4th and 5th best player on the field are all going to be on USC's side. Matt Barkley has really rounded out to be a pretty decent quarterback and the boys from troy are bolstered with the return of suspended starting RB Marc Tyler. Now I'm not going to say last week's game vs Minnesota was basically a look ahead game for USC, but let's face it, Minnesota wasn't very good last year (USC went there and thumped them pretty good) so they may not have been quite as inspired as they should have been. The one thing working against USC's favor, imho, is the fact that Lane Kiffin is a ####### ### clown/buffoon. He goes for two point conversions like a #######, his clock management is piss poor at best, and his team management is horrendous. But, he has a tremendous defensive line, a decent secondary and I think they will easily control both lines of scrimmage with their superior athletes. If Coach Pete was at the helm, this would be an easy play at -17 or better. Even without, this should be a nice prime time victory for the Trojans.

The play here USC -9.5

(yes, I have been ice cold posting plays in here of late, so this is tremendous fade material for you)

So I joined a Pigskin Pick'Em group for a second year this year. It's a straight up pick 'em, no spread involved. I won last year, by pretty much picking the favorite each game, each week. The occasional home dog. Pretty much let Vegas do the work for me.

My picks for week 1:

Packers, Falcons, Chiefs, Browns, Lions, Titans, Texans, Eagles, Steelers, Chargers, Redskins (Home Dog), Cardinals, 49ers, Jets, Pats, Broncos

What is great, is that there are about 30 people that start and pay their entry fee. By midseason, half have forgotten to submit picks for a week and give up altogether. I won by two games over second place, who missed getting in his pick for the last Thursday game of the season.

Totally forgot that Saturday is the annual BeerFest thingy in town. Pretty much a field party for grown-ups. The last 3 years or so I've helped my wife set up their booth/tent and gotten in for free. I'm having a 3/8 life crisis. We are planning to move to SC when we sell our house, and I have no idea what type of employment I want to seek. Have done sales and marketing in the past but not sure that's what I want to do. Feels really gross to be this unambitious.

Moving back home? IIRC you are from upstate?If not, and you end up in the low country, you should think about real estate. At least in Beaufort-Edisto-Hilton Head-Kiawah, e.g., the upscale golf areas, they weathered the storm pretty well. Always going to be demand for quality second home/retirement developments.

Yep, Greenville. It's home and I have a ton of networking contacts. I just feel like, "hey, I'm looking for a job and I am pretty smart, completely trainable and will work hard but I don't really know what I want to do... just looking for 35-50 hours a week with benefits" isn't my best schpeel. Mr. YSR will also be looking, but he could sell black ice to shuke, so I'm not too concerned about him.

I have a furniture job going on in Greenville that has had ongoing problems for the last month. I'll give you a hundred bucks to kick this gal in the groin.

I found out last night why this gal hasn't been responding to my e-mails. She has been in a coma since Friday.
