GM's thread about nothing (23 Viewers)

:drool:Today is Friday and every Friday my boss springs for lunch for us. Today, we go to Sanchez Taquari (sp?) for their incredible Tortas. I get mine Al Pastor, but the rest of the gang goes with Carne Asada. Today, the 23 year old director of business delopment for the engineer firm that just moved in next door will be joining us. Say hello to Cheryl. She's a devout Mormon. Well, she drinks cola and gambles once in a while, but other than that, she worships the same jesus as Milt Romney.
:belch:Exceptional. Best meal we bring into the office and its not close.

Anyone here a fan of Chimichurri? It is one of my favorite sauces. I recently marinaded shrimp overnight in it. Results: :moneybag:

Make skirt steak with it as a topping, but it's great as a marinade on most proteins too. I have even used it on a sort of Argentinian pizza with strips of skirt steak, red onions, and queso fresco. Obligatory pic.
I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter or recipe book. Where can I get this...Chimichurri?

Um yeah. We just closed on the house. After it was all said and done I have a check for $22k plus. We have a room at The Chase and dinner at an awesome restaurant downtown tonight before the game. I'm tweaked out of my mind.
You're going to blow it all at the boat, aren't you?
Think the Mrs. will mind if I crash on your floor? I'll just look and keep my hands on myself. Unless she's into that.

Keeping your hands to yourself? She's WAY into that.

Looks like we've run out of topics and are circling back for some repeats in here.
We're trying to keep Shuke from leaving and talk of food and pics of comely women tend to do just that. Be a part of the solution, Tre.
Thanks for the pep talk, gb. Anyone ever prepare flank steak? I'm doing flank steak carne asada style and mexican rice and beans tonight for the GF's parents.

I bought a nice 2.5lb flank steak at the butcher yesterday and got it in an orange juice/red wine vinegar/soy sauce marinade after applying this carne asada rub I got at the mercado.

Sounds like I just grill this thing quick on super high heat to med-rare and then slice it into thing slices against the grain. Wa la.

Flank steak btw is basically the stomach muscle of the cow. So, it's thin and tough, which is why the marinade is so important. It has a distinct flavor and odor as well. Skirt steak is similar but more towards teh diaphragm area I guess.
I've done many flank steaks for carne asada just the way your describe and they are tremendous. In addition to the juice/soy/vinegar, I've used tequilla in the marinade. The marindade helps tenderize the meat, so hopefully this thing is in the fridge marinating right now. Should be excellent. Assume charcoal, not gas?Make some cuban black beans to go with this....
Yep, charcoal all the way. And it is in the fridge and I do have tequila. I can call PV and have her put some in there.I was going to do black beans with some queso fresca I bought at the mercado. Anything special I need to do to make them "cuban black beans"?
As I've posted before (and I think Tiger's latched on to this) I mince 3-4 cloves of garlic (depending on how many cans of black beans I'm using), dice up onions and red peppers (de-seeded jalapenos or serranos if the boys aren't eating with us) and sautee them in olive oil for few minutes with Tony's and cracked black pepper tossed in for the hell of it. Then I dump in the beans, a LOT of cumin (1 to 1.5 TBSP), pinch of oregano, a little paprika, garlic powder, onion powder maybe some chili powder if I'm feeling bold and stir in about 1/3 to 1/2 a bottle/can of beer (any beer will work, though I like to use a Red Strip or something similar for no real good reason other than I associate it with "Cubans") maybe some more pepper and Tony's (Old Bay works too), toss in a fresh bay leaf, and bring to a boil on medium high heat. Once you hit that boil, turn it to low and let it simmer as long as you like. Cover it if you want more moisture and more flavors, uncover if you want it thicker. You can't really go wrong here.
No lie,I just bought this whil I was at Sam's this morning. Been makinthe #### out of those beans

I can't believe I spent three days in Phily and didn't have a cheesesteak. Pretty poor planning on my part. I did, however, have something called 'scrapple' for breakfast at this old diner and it was incredible.
Maybe it's b/c I come from a city with such great food, but I've never been so underwhelmed when it came to a meal than the time I went to Philly and ate at Pat & Ginos (been to each on a separate occasion). After a PJ show, Scorchy took me, TU and Zilla to some other Philly cheesesteak place that was great...no idea what name it was.

Got this marinating for the grill tomorrow: Hawaiian Chicken Kabobs

Ingredients

3 tablespoons soy sauce

3 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons sherry

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

8 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cut into 2 inch pieces

1 (20 ounce) can pineapple chunks, drained

skewers

Directions

In a shallow glass dish, mix the soy sauce, brown sugar, sherry, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic powder. Stir the chicken pieces and pineapple into the marinade until well coated. Cover, and marinate in the refrigerator at least 2 hours.

Preheat grill to medium-high heat.

Lightly oil the grill grate. Thread chicken and pineapple alternately onto skewers. Grill 15 to 20 minutes, turning occasionally, or until chicken juices run clear.

You can buy it at most upscale grocers, but I always make mine fresh, which is really easy. I'll post the recipe later.

I guess I missed SLB's house sale post. I legitimately thought the following Fish post:

-fish-, on 28 October 2011 - 02:04 PM, said:Congrats, Bob.
Was referencing "Bob" Sac's post about his record-setting stiffy.

And since we were on the topic of erections yesterday, I've had one for the better part of 9 hours now, and it won't go away no matter how many people I "accidentally" rub up against.
But apparently I was wrong.

On the house, thanks GB.
Oh well. Congrats to anyone who sold a house or has a 9 hour erection or had a good sub for lunch. I'm jealous of all of you. Well, most of you. To be honest I'm only really jealous of SLB because he's probably going to be doing fun things to my future bride tonight. And I'm also jealous of Stu because, well, just because.

more likely on her back

My wife is awesome for a million reasons, but these two are worth noting:

1) We agreed with my ex-wife that she would be responsible for our oldest son's halloween costume and we'd tackle the younger son. Younger son is a gregarious lad who has a bevy of male and female friends at school, earning the nickname of 'Mayor of Ridgewood' amongst our family. Instead of going out a buying a costume, he said he wanted to be a 'chick magnet' for Halloween and my wife agreed to make this costume for him.

After trips to the Dollar Store and the soul draining Michaels, she had enough material for his costume. The gal worked all night long creating a shirt that had 'Chick Magnet' ironed onto it with glued on chicks and homemade magnets done out of felt. She probably spent 4-5 hours creating this shirt for him to wear. I would have given up after 5 minutes. But she stuck with it and created a pretty darn cool costume for the little Mayor. He's going to pull this off today and I'm going to the school in an hour to see him (and his brother) for their big parties.

2) When I asked her what she was going to be for Halloween (I'm going as Chip Kelly, which is lame, but I haven't dressed up for Halloween or been to a Halloween party for just grown ups in probably 10 years or more) she said she only had one idea. So I said "oh yeah, what's that". She smirked and said she considered wearing her graduation gown, putting a doiley (sp?) around the collar and going as Judge Judy. Not sure why, but that made my night. She'll need a fake gavel and a whig, but the thought of Coach Chip Kelly and Judge Judy going to what the invitation describes as a 'Skinsational' party  makes me laugh.

That is all. Back to talking about god inspired home runs, sandwiches and YSR losing things....
