UPDATE: Everything is going as well as we could hope. He's eating, filling up diapers, and showing a lot of the energy that was missing and causing concern. We won't know anything definitive until we get the lab results back and that probably won't be until tomorrow evening sometime, but things are definitely positive right now. Thanks for all the kind words.
I don't know how you deal with your baby turning blue. I don't think I'd ever sleep again.

Just spent the last hour introducing my 74 yr old dad to Arcade Fire and SpoonHe particularly liked The Underdog:thumbup: I am also smashed, BTWFrosty, I can't send you enough good vibes, we're all pulling for young Bennett here
I read the interview that Britt did with Davies, and he said The Underdog in particular was heavily Kinks-influenced, esp. the horns.
Can totally hear thatThat was the biggest WA LA Spoon thing for me, seeing them live a couple of weeks ago, was how awesome the horns wereI totally think David Eckstein, Brett Gardner or Adam Kennedy needs to come to the plate to this song
Brett Gardner is a force of nature.I've been jamming "Girls Can Tell" a lot this week. If I were in a rock band, "The Fitted Shirt" would just make me quit in disgust.
:hifive: ####### LOVE GCTI remember an impassioned email to a music friend at the time that Fitted Shirt was the best meditation on middle class ennui I had heard in a long whileot to get TOO meta, but thematically, Fitted Shirt would totally fit on The Suburbs

I don't think it's middle class ennui as much as a disenchantment with modernness, for lack of a better word. Might lead off my night-walk ( > hi) with TFS, then segue into the new Thermals.

Bennett is in the NICU for tests after he stopped breathing twice tonight. Think good thought please. I've never been so scared in all my life.
HFS FrostyNothing but major T&Ps coming from meHang in there buddy
 Checking in from Schiphol; hope I see good news by the end of this thread.

Huge thanks to charvik for the Amsterdam recommendations. We're at the airport waiting for our flight to Cape Town, but wanted to mention that the FIRST thing we did after checking in to the hotel yesterday was check out the French fry place, where apparently they'd prefer you not take pictures. Without doubt the best fries ever...we got two orders and asked the guy what the best sauces were, and he recommended the peanut and the regular mayonnaise. The peanut was particularly outstanding--I'm going to crave that again for a long time.

We also tried the beer place recommended, which was also oustanding, and made a reservation that we later had to cancel for Restaurant Greetje, becasue we couldn't stay awake. Mostly just walked around and stopped in cafe after cafe for another beer/wine. Went to the red light district as I really wanted to see it, but I found it just creepy and depressing.

Anyway, thanks again for the info!

My 66-year old dad, who still teaches math, was just complaining about how he had to take a class on "Smartboards" for this year and how they are dragging him kicking and screaming into the techology age. He has a computer at home, which he uses for Minesweeper and occasionally Sudoku if he's feeling crazy. Is that related to your post at all?
I totally understand where he's coming from. Your dad could probably teach for the entire year with a class-set of books, a few reams of paper and a chalkboard and still kick ###. Technology can be a blessing but when you come right down to it you can be just as effective without it.On the other hand, I'd love to have a Smartboard. But only if I had absolutely everything to go with it AND it was top of the line stuff. The biggest problem with things like Smartboards is that you're talking about 3 or 4 things that can go wrong...comp, projector, Smartboard...and your whole lesson is shot.
All I know is he has gone from "I'm not retiring anytime soon" to "I think I might retire after this year." It would be a shame, because his love for teaching is sick in an awesome kind of way. I'm guessing he'll adapt quickly and be fine, but it's pretty funny to hear the first person I ever knew with a home computer start talking about quitting because they're upping techno on him.
Nobody likes math anyway.
I actually shouldn't have my degree because of my mathematical tardation.I didn't have enough high school credits to skip all the college math, but I did anyway. No one said anything, so I just got my #### and went on my way.
I took a total of 2 math classes in college. Whatever they call Algebra 2 in college and statistics. OK I take that back. I took the Algebra thing like 3 times but kept dropping it.

Yeah, I never had to take those because my high school transcripts were wrong. And if I'd have been forced to take them (there were THREE) then I probably would have dropped out.Actually, I wouldn't have dropped out. I'd have ignored the problem for about four years and then tried to talk my way into getting the requirement waived. If that didn't work, I'd find an engineering student with no writing ability to pose as me for the math classes while I posed as him for the English/History/Poli Sci classes that he was scared ####less of taking. Basically, I think I just wrote a sitcom...

Homer's sitcom is better than most of the drivel they give us. What would be awesome, though, is a sitcom where you and Disco Stu chase skirts together. Zaniness ensues.

Ehh, I am a structural engineer and I never took a math class in college. They are overrated.

Frosty,

Glad to hear things have taken a turn for the better. I am completely not a religious man and I gave you tons of T&P.....

Hope Ben continues to get better over the next couple days.

All tests for infection are back and negative. They are going to hook him up to an oxygen monitor overnight and if everything looks good in the morning he will finally be coming home. Awesome.

Still looking for someone to volunteer to pre-rank players for my lame autodraft (I, too, have lost interest in FF). My $10 Paypal offer to Homer stands for the general public now.

Come one, come all.
