I think the guy should always have an idea on what the girl likes in a ring. Some girls might like a plain, princess cut solitaire (which looks the best, imo) but other girls like all the little diamonds along side a slightly bigger, middle diamond, for example.It's an expensive purchase. The girl should be happy with what she's getting.

I wholeheartedly agree with your last point, but I'm finding it a little difficult due to my involvement in this process. I want him to do it mostly on his own, as does he. However, we have very different tastes in most everything so a while back he asked me to pick out a couple of settings, etc. that I liked.I cooled my heels on it for a while but yesterday we went looking together. I liked two settings/looks and I know he'll pick the one he likes better.

At this point, I want to leave it in his hands completely, but there's a teeny, tiny part of me that wants to see it through since it's what I'll be wearing forever.

And BTW, this is the part where I am really shallow and hate myself for it, so flame away.

I don't think expecting to have input is shallow in the least. Tanner put it well. You're the one who is going to have to wear it for... some period of time. Does he pick out your clothes when you go shopping?

I think the line needs to be drawn at statements like, "If it's not size xyz or quality abc or cost gfym, then I won't say yes." At the point anything resembling that escapes your lips, ask him to punch you in then neck.

 
Just found out the Drifter progeny #2, 7 weeks shy of launch date has a head measuring in the 98th percentile.

Wife is not pleased with my large head genetics.

#1's head currently measures 99th percentile but it was 50% when he came out.

 
I was literally in tears last night when I posted this in the Fictitious M Night Shyamalan Movies thread. Didn't even get a single lol. :goodposting:

Same thing here. Our first was measured to be almost 12lbs during a week 38 ultrasound, doc decided to go C-section route. Baby came out at 9.14lb.Last week my wife had a 34 week ultrasound and baby was measuring 7.4lb, went ahead and scheduled the C-section again.

So I was watching some rerun of some reality show, and this guy on there was called immature, and in his interview segment he said something to the effect of: "Of course I am. I'm still young. I'm in my early 20s. I still have a tongue piercing. I still have a tattoo. What do they expect?" And just the way he said "I still have a tattoo" had me laughing out loud. Like it'll wear off when he's mature or something.

:P The GF, despite being a stone cold fox, is actually incredibly grounded. Very much a jeans/t-shirt girl who came from humble roots. She would beat my ### if I spent more than a paycheck on an engagement ring (when it comes around to that). Of course.. I'll probably go a little overboard but it's nice not having her dropping comments about it all the time. Same mindset about the wedding. Disgusts her to think people drop tens of thousands of dollars on these elaborate gaudy ceremonies and parties. Her thoughts are to take the cash and save it and maybe spend part of it on a nicer vacation/honeymoon. :thumbup: to wimmen who get it.

My uncle has no kids and is happy that way. I would like to ask him to leave my grandfathers war medals to my middle son (who is my grandfathers namesake) but feel weird about asking him. Offensive or not?

"Bill, what are you going to do with gramps' war medals should, god forbid, something ever happen to you?"Wholly inoffensive start to a conversation that never has to turn into a formal request if you sense he has something planned that would be more meaningful to him.

I like this. Or getting my mom to ask him. She's like a mother to him (14 years older and cared for him when their parents drank).
 
Mr. krista4 is now in the 5-11 p.m. session of culinary school, which I encouraged because he would have the opportunity to learn baking from the former Pastry Chef at The French Laundry, but it is once again reminding me that I do not know how to feed myself. I've had meals consisting of such delicacies as potato chips and pecans. Tonight I tried to expand my horizons by applying heat to something, but failed when I couldn't get a burner to start up, instead just filling the house with a heavy gas smell. :)

At least we have red pepper hummus and goat cheese I got at the farmer's market on Saturday, if only there were a bread-like item to apply them to.

Early, I just can't think of a good way for you to approach your uncle about the medals without it sounding like "So by the way, I've been thinking about your inevitable death..." Maybe the idea of having your mom approach him is a good one; older people can get away with that stuff more easily.

I need ten grand to keep some compromising photos of myself off the net. If you can't swing that, how about your war medals when you kick it?

This sounds a lot like my wife, except maybe the self awareness about your inability to cook. You aren't her, are you? If you are, I was kidding about the thing about the thing, and those pictures weren't me.
