GM's thread about nothing (40 Viewers)

I'm a pyromaniac and have used the fact that it's in the 50s here as an excuse to burn everything I can get my hands on.

Does anyone here know from experience which wood burns and which doesn't? We seem to have a lot of the latter.
I got sick of screwing with it so I start every fire with one of those Duraflame logs. They cost like $3.50 a piece but it beats screwing with it. I'm about to start a fire in the bedroom fireplace in a minute.
Those bad boys burn super hot. After a winter of using those things they actually melted my steel grate enough to bend it down in the middle!

Random mumblings and bragging...My sons junior midget team (12-13) won the division 2 National Championship game against the Harlem Jets. 14-14 it went into OT where it was College rules, they got the ball first and scored on third down but we held them when they tried to run it in for one. We then struggled to get a yard the first three plays so 4th down from the ten our qb scrambles and throws to the back corner of the end zone where our TE somehow manages a diving catch keeping his feet in bounds. Our sideline erupts and we go for 2 (fg) perfect snap and kick and it's pandamonium on our sideline. Easily the greatest sporting moment of my life to witness let alone coach. :banned:
Any youtube videos of this?

SLBob, Mr. krista4 described the gooey butter cake as "like a deep fried funnel cake, stuffed into a Twinkie". This was meant as a compliment.

Soon, we are still working on getting the video of the game from AYF

How could Imp be doing the Fonzi all week? I know it's a little before my time and I was never a big fan of the show, but didn't Fonzi use two thumbs?

Quick search reveals: not always.

I drank some wine tonight. Brown water kicking in, but I need to pass out early tonight. I still haven't killed anything this year and need to remedy that tomorrow morning.

I still use one of those too. What's bad is that I have 2 friends and a sister who use AOL as their main address.

One is from Mississippi, so suck on it.

Oh, operation "move to the beach" is looking good. I think I mentioned that in here somewhere.

My neighbor had put his house on the market and with a pool and being slightly larger, I wanted him to get his house sold before I listed mine. It sold a while back, but the courthouse finally recorded the documents to give me a sales price without having to ask a nosey question. I'm excited. I should be able to still make a nice profit on this house considering what I paid 4 years ago and should have nice amount to put towards making my next loan miniscule.

I think the last time I mentioned moving in this thread, I was considering moving without a job and possibly buying a lot and roughing it. That's changed too. I can still do my same job considering most of it is done by computer and on the internet already and I've been given the go ahead to move. I won't be trying to find a deal on a lot with water access now because I need to actually find a real house with a 2nd or 3rd bedroom for a physical office.

:pumped: :flex:

Team C gets the 2nd spot because there are only 2 teams tied after breaking the 3 way tie.
The rules say if there's a three-way tie, total points is the tie breaker. It doesn't say to use a two-step method.
Right, there was a 3way way tie for one spot, tie broken. Then there was a 2 way tie for a second spot, start tie break procedure again..The 3 way tie wasn't for 2 spots.

Another FF question. We had a three way tie in one division. Our tiebreaker rule is:

"The first tiebreaker for two teams tied for a playoff spot is head-to-head record. If the head-to-head record is tied, or if there are more than two teams in a tie, total points scored will be the next tiebreaker. If it's still tied, the team with the highest winning percentage in the division will advance. After that, it's a virtual coin toss."
"A" singular playoff spot, got to decide them one-by-one.
Exactly

The first sentence that you're quoting is inapplicable to the situation at hand. There aren't two teams tied. There are three. Therefore the second sentence controls.
If the 2 spots they were tied for were for an equal prize then yes. They aren't.

Pretty easy call here.

:wub:totally envious. But can't you still just get the lot and hire and architect from this board and do your work from Starbucks while it's getting built to your specs? Oh hi. Did I mention I'm an architect?

Interesting. I did a zillow search tonight and found some interesting lots which could fit "now and future" concerns. I bought my current house because the previous owners had an architect draw up plans for improvements which I could continue. I don't mind living in a house I'm upgrading and doing much of the work myself. I'm also interested in building houses in the future, when the market corrects, and I'm definitely moving from a market which hasn't gone down to a depleted, likely to improve market.I bought this house at a reduced price considering needed upgrades, and made some of the changes called for in the previously drawn up plans. I added a dining room off the back with porches off either side, redoing the entire bottom floorplan while adding hardwoods and tile. My business went south around the time I was completing the work and it's still a bit unfinished. I'm definitely game for buying a lot and building a house with a modular upgrade in mind, especially considering I can do much of the work myself and I'd like to move into that line of work eventually.I also have an invitation to move in with a friend and his wife if something like that would be needed. His wife also owns a dental practice which they're looking to expand and we've discussed me having an office in their new establishment. If I found a lot on the water, I'm fairly certain I could move in with them while the first stage of a house was being completed, or I could rent an apartment of course. We might need to talk once I get this moving to the next stage. The main limiting factor for me will be insurance, I think. The area in which I'm looking to move naturally has hurricane concerns and part of the reason for moving is a reduced monthly payment. Considering the insurance and property tax increase, along with my desire to lessen my monthly mortgage payment, I'm looking to move at a reduced overall cost per month. I think I still have some wiggle room, but I don't think it will be a wide gap.I am pretty excited about what I possibly have in equity right now though. Considering my initial purchase price, what I invested in the house, the continued value of property around me, and the cost of the property where I'm looking to move compared to where it was 5 years ago, I should be in a very good position no matter what I do.I do need to get this house ready and on the market though. It'll be interesting to see how quickly things move after that.

So wait, is Mississippi somehow worse than Alabama? I admit to being very new to this Southern thing, so I need to get the tiers correct (lest I get in Pickles' crosshairs). So, if I have this right, TX>GA>TN>AR>AL>MS?Open to any corrections here.

Oh, and btw, some of the waterfront lots I found have listings which suggest there are no mobile home restrictions. I don't think I'd ever be game for living in an actual mobile home, but I'm down for living a camper for a year, I think.

You were perfect right up until the first character you typed. Texas isn't part of the South.

Does anyone have a stranger musical legacy than Burl Ives?

For eleven months out of the year no radio station anywhere in America plays his songs; not a single person purchases or downloads his songs.

But for the last month of the year you cannot turn on a radio station playing Christmas music without hearing at least two songs of his every hour.

The only thing I can offer here is that when I first saw the picture, I did not think his buttocks were his buttocks.

Other than that, poop is poop and pee is pee and Charlie is Charlie.

Are we doing Pet Peeves now? Great! I love those.

Here's a couple you parents out there can appreciate:

1) If I throw my child a birthday party at a place like "Laser Port", offer to watch your child for the duration of the party, thereby gifting you an afternoon to yourself absent at least one child, DO NOT abuse that offer by arriving late to pick your child up....ESPECIALLY if your child is a spoiled little turd with no manners and a smart mouth the likes of which my grandmother would have smacked. A few minutes late, okay. Give me a call (I asked to exchange numbers before you dropped Damien off) if it's 15 minutes or more. Grrrrrrrr.

2) Just because your 1st or 2nd grader knows how to operate a phone does not mean you should give them carte blanche to use it. Especially if they are using it to call me to talk to my child so they can relay to them a joke they read on the wall of a bathroom. Parents, do NOT encourage junior to pick up and use your phone to 'chat' with other kids who are 6 years or more away from reaching teenager status. My god....

Fairly certain I was only allowed to talk with grandparents on the phone before, say, middle school. Possibly earlier, only because I lived in a great neighborhood with lots of kids my age - but I'm sure the average phone call was short in length, as in "Hey, we are meeting in Laura Anne's playhouse to look at dirty magazines". Frankly, there was never much more to say after that.

This was my biggest complaint when I coached youth soccer. The majority of the parents stayed for practice but some dropped their kids off. I couldn't believe the number of them that thought is was perfectly fine to show up 10-15-20 minutes late. And of course you can't take off and leave the kid their alone. I was always tempted to take the left behind kid and go hide with him behind a tree or something. Watch the parent freak out when their kid wasn't there. But always figured that would be pretty creepy.

Cal has this Rainman like ability to remember phone numbers (this isn't bragging, something is weird about the kid, he underwent the first 3 hours of testing last Tuesday) and last year, he would call my parents at home, on their cell, my Dad at work, nonstop. I drove them crazy. I didn't encourage it, and always took the phone away, but I thought it was hysterical.
