Bring along a big bottle of Listerine and insist that you need to bring it. That oughta delay you for an hour or so.On Saturday morning, I'm flying halfway across the country with a hyperactive two year old that's never flown before, an AngryWife that's seven months pregnant, and my mother and father in law. Thinking about creating a bit of a stir at the airport and begging the TSA folks to haul me in so I miss the flight.
Gonna need a little backstory.
Your sister sounds a little angry.Had a big reply-to-all going on with my brother, sister and dad earlier tonight, which ended with the following Father's Day planning:YSRSis: So are we invited to Father's Day this year or is it another year of, "It's my day, and if I don't want to spend Father's Day with my children then I shouldn't have to."YSRDad: Only stimulation I have is we will not sit at the dining room table.![]()
oolSounds like the story of Lot.
Yeah. Mine's $52/mo.Yea I got that same package, except I got 1 HD DVR, 1 HD Box, and 2 regular boxes. Got the Sunday Ticket for a year, and all the movie channels for 3 mos. All for $79/moI'm getting a bit more off than that, 4 free receivers (2 HD with DVR) plus 1 year free of NFL Sunday Ticket.I did this exact thing 3 weeks ago. Saving $50/mo for the first year, and $20/mo the second. The sales guy and manager didn't really know what they were talking about though, they said they had a wireless router, but they don't so I had to pay $50 for an install of it.Got convinced to switch from cable to Direct TV this week at Sams. Install is next Saturday, so I've got a week to change my mind if I want to. I hate Time Warner with a passion and my monthly bill is going down, so I'm not sure how I would change my mind, but looking for thoughts.
They also told me they had new technology that prevents 95% of signal loss due to storms. FAIL.... We had a loss of signal the second night, and another one last week.
They also talked me out of a second DVR for the bedroom because they said you could record 2 channels and watch a 3rd, unlike Time Warner. Another fail as it's exactly like Time Warner where you can only record 2 channels and have to watch one of those or something that's already been recorded.
Other than that it's ok, takes a bit to get used to.
On another note, as the communications guy I end up getting stuck on a lot of these "company spirit" committees. We're having a "50s" party at the office to celebrate 50,000 customers. When I asked if the party was going to be integrated or if we were going to force the blacks to throw their own party, people seemed mostly offended. That's funny, right?
Yes.Mrs SLB and myself do everything together. Except sex of course.Oh yeah my brother and his wife SHARE a facebook account: "Gary N Diane Boyle" or whateverThey are one of those couples that do EVERYTHING together from golfing to working out. A few years ago we went to a birthday party for my aunt and uncle who are twins. Some freaking genius had the brilliant idea to make it a theme party. You had a choice: You could dress up like my aunt or uncle or find a partner and dress as twins. I just put on a checkered shirt and some glasses and went as my uncle. My brother and his wife dressed as twins...both of them wore overalls with a red shirt. They showed up holding hands. Oh did I mention this party was in public at a bar/bowling alley? I told them both not to stand within 50 feet of me.

My Mom lives there with my older brother. They take care of her (had a bad stroke a number of years ago), when they go on vacation I come to GSO to visit and look after my Mom.In Greensboro?A weeknight with some black and tans and getting my ### handed to me in shuffleboard works.Pick a night, I'll be on vacation.I'll likely be out of town on both of those weekends, but in town all week. Need to find some shuffleboard partners. If you have frequent heavy rainstorms DirecTv is going to piss you off.If not and you like having all of the NFL games then party on Garth.Got convinced to switch from cable to Direct TV this week at Sams. Ask Timschochet and then do the opposite.Got a job offer from my second choice. Told them I would get back to them tomorrow afternoon. The money is fine, the commute is very reasonable. My first choice told me they would get back to me tomorrow. The money is similar, the commute is a little longer, but manageable. The second choice is a large public corporation based in Nashville. The first choice is a non-profit (but very successful) based here in Austin. What's the shark play here? Leaning toward waiting until about noon, then emailing the first choice to see what's up. What say you?
Or Woz.Or both.Hilarity will ensue if they both answer differently.I'd then suggest Otis tie breaker and do the opposite of what Oat says.Or you can go to White Water by yourself. Pretty sure I mentioned this already but I still keep thinking about it and it makes me angry. 2 adults, 2 kids,I've still got the original email. I'm thinking about blackmailing my brother with it. He makes a pretty good salary. I bet I could get at least $73 out of it.$157Huh?

You should. I called last month because my bill had increased by about $5/month, and told them I was cancelling because the bill had gotten too high. I'm now getting $35/mo off my bill for two years (includes the HD credit). The lady I spoke with also told me to just call back when the discounts end and they'll do it again. This is one thing that pisses me off about DirecTV.New customers get free HD.I'm getting a bit more off than that, 4 free receivers (2 HD with DVR) plus 1 year free of NFL Sunday Ticket.I did this exact thing 3 weeks ago. Existing customers that want to add it, (yeah yeah I'm a caveman just recently got an HD capable TV), have to pay for it.
No I haven't tried the well I'm going to cancel route yet.
I've still got the original email. I'm thinking about blackmailing my brother with it. He makes a pretty good salary. I bet I could get at least $73 out of it.

I know you said the money is close but you're talking about 2 different cities. Have you looked at cost of living between the 2 cities? If it's still really close, I'd suggest calling, not e-mailing, the first job. If no go, then take the Nashville job. There's probably a lot more room for growth at the large public corp too compared to the non-profit.Got a job offer from my second choice. Told them I would get back to them tomorrow afternoon. Just for the record, BSR and I do not share a FB account.
I hear sometimes that I'm a good father. Well, look, give me some time and I'll screw it up. It's only been a year, mind you.Happy Fathers Day, fellas. We fart a lot in here but I know there are some great dads in this thread.![]()
