GM's thread about nothing (14 Viewers)

Trying to think of any actors turned singers music I've ever owned. Struggling to find anything in the memory bank. Was pretty against that whole racket when Eddie Murphy polluted my airwaves and took up good real estate in my brain with "My Girl Likes to Party All the Time".

What must it feel like to be the bass player for Corey Feldman?

I have one unplanned dinner in Chicago to cover and have been trying to figure out what I miss the most. Think we might be getting some of Chicago's world-famous tapas. :bag: Sorry, AaronFan.

Night was going smoothly, husband cooks dinner, I'm on my second glass of wine, etc. An hour ago, my cell phone rings with a local number. We have our house listed, so I'm going against normal protocols and answering any call that comes in.

Me: Hello?

Caller: Hi... my name is Heather, and I live across the canal from you.

Me: Hi, Heather!

Heather: Sweetie, your dock is floating away.

We race through the yard to the water and sure enough, thar she blows, about 20 yards from her resting place. While we didn't get much rain at our house, apparently the water levels are super high and the dock's iron loops rose above the pillars around which they normally rest.

Some quick thinking got us to get out our kayak and send Mr. YSR out in it to loop an electrical cord (couldn't find rope on such short notice) through the loops so we could rein her back in. We then spent the next 45 minutes affixing pieces of 2x4 to the tops of the pillars to make them taller.

Worth mentioning that I'm extremely sensitive to the no-see-ums in our backyard, especially down at the waterfront, and will be sure to have no fewer than 60 bites in the morning. I get 20 or so just while passing through that area quickly on the mower.

So, GMTAN, back to :banned: .
Sorry, doing some hippling today......What does no-see-ums mean?

Can't See Emstiny black knats
ka-nig-its?
:lmao: I read that the exact same way.
not to hipple or quibble - but i´m pretty sure it is gnat...
racist
wat?i doth protest... in general, i don´t like people...

.

stupid matters so much more than hue...vegetable or animal... love me some sqaush, zuchinni or tomatoes... cauliflower not at all... beef, lamb, pork, chicken and fish all all good (shell fish double good). leveticus be damned... just more bs...

gnats are too small for me to determine color - other than dark - which i guess is bad enough. can´t recall seeing a white gnat - seen a white fly. of course i´ve never seen a white knight or white unicorn - otoh, i´m not a woman nor virgin (nor gay - nttiawwt)... have seen pictures of of white narwhal. never seem pictures of a white jim11 - always assumed he was moby **** being chased by ahab - just seemed to fit... a white thing being persecuted by a muslim/person of colour is so up his alley. **** being the operative word... moby is some sort of dance/electro/trans critter - a dancing, jiving white whale would be something to see... a dancing/jiving white ****, not so much...

never seen a black knight either... other than a ucf black knight...

what were we talking about???

Next month is 10 years since I last had to wear a tux, but as luck would have it I need to wear one again. I have a charity dinner for work and the dress is "black tie", so I know that means a tux, but does it matter if I wear a bow tie or the regular style black? I really want to avoid a bow tie if I can.
Yes, it matters.
A little more help GB?

anyone here ever have plantar facititis?

Its absolutely killing me. The pain is nearly intolerable. I have steady supply of percocets from my doc for ongoing chronic back pain and I never take more than 3-4/week. But the foot pain has been so intense I am taking 3-4 a day.

I went and saw a podiatrist a few months back when it was in the bottom of my foot and got a cortisone shot. THat killed the pain in the bottom of my foot, but it moved to the bottom of my Achilles tendon. They will not give another shot in the Achilles area and evidently there is nothing else to do but surgery and I am not willing to do that. I am getting some crutches tomorrow and use them to stay off the foot for a week and see if that can at least get the pain down to a bearable level.

I have many many other things culminating in my life right now and the stress is unbelievable. Stir in the constant pain and I am having a very hard time not being a #### to all those around me.

Thoughts or advice?

why would you decline surgery if you're in that much discomfort?

The chances of success are slim and the chances of additional problems are great according to my out-of-town podiatrist friend. He highly recommended against it and offered no hope of recovery without total rest of the foot and was not particularly hopeful about that.

Wiki explains it very well:

Unlike white tie, which is very strictly regulated, black-tie ensembles can display more variation. In brief, the traditional components are:

A jacket with ribbed silk facings (usually grosgrain) on a shawl collar or peaked lapel (while a notched lapel is a popular modern choice, it is traditionally considered less formal)[8]

Trousers with a single silk or satin braid covering the outer seams

A black cummerbund or a low-cut waistcoat

A white dress shirt (a marcella front is traditional, but other styles are also accepted) with shirt studs (never buttons), French cuffs and cufflinks, and a turn-down or detachable wing collar (the latter now more commonly worn for white tie, but generally considered acceptable for black tie as well)[9]

A black ribbed silk bow tie matching the lapel facings

Shirt studs (optional, depending on the type of shirt) and cufflinks

Black dress socks, usually of silk or fine wool

Black shoes—highly polished or patent leather Oxfords, or patent leather court shoes

Personally I would pass on the cummerbund, and not a fan of shirt studs.
It's perfectly OK to wear a regular necktie with a tux.I would go with a narrow width but not skinny.

I do 15 or so weddings a year. I would say that 75% of the time the groom and groomsmen are wearing a straight tie.

Yeah, but there's really only things that somewhat relive the pain, not anything that fixes teh problem. I have a fancy foot massager that makes me feel better than any of the exercises, but 10 minutes after I stop, the pain comes back (same with the therapeutic exercises).

man, sounds painful. my brother had some issues with it a few years back. he's a doctor, and he told me that it typically resolves on its own. he spent a few months doing physical therapy and icing it constantly, got some kind of orthotic that he used for a while, and it eventually healed.good luck.

Thanks I appreciate that. That's kind of how my podiatrist friend expained it. Quit using the foot and it may well heal itself. But I have just been too much under the gun to take off. So the next week I am putting on the orthopedic boot and using crutches to completely stay off the foot. I hope it works

I @#$@# hate Max @#$@# Scherzer

I think i've benched him for every single one of his good starts, and started him for every single one of his blow ups. I waived him today. Didn't pick anyone up. Didn't care to. Just want him off my $@#$@#$ roster. I'm neck and neck for winning the one league I'm doing, and that ####### is doing everything he can to submarine me.

BOL cos. Wish I had more to offer. Some nice wine can't hurt.
appreciate it. my wife will probably be completely sick of the "step and fetch" routine by the weekend. Want to came over and assume the fetching the drug and alcohol duties for the weekend? I'll share.

stretch... if you can´t stand, bend over and put your palms an the floor or on the top of your feet your leg muscles are too tight (or you´r belly is way too big). work backwards on stretching (achilles, calves, hams). they make special socks/booties you sleep in to stretch the achilles. that plus rice... and time...cutters always like surgery - that is how they make their money. been cut several times and it is seldom as good as advertised. the wife´s experience is similar. exhaust all avenues before doing the knife...ymmv...

My wife had it for almost a year, she was told to freeze bottles of water and roll her foot over the frozen bottles while while sitting or watching TV. Used the boot at night for a few months but that did not seem to help at all. The pain finally subsided after 6-7 months but took almost a full year to go away.

I think my wife has it or has had it or something I don't know I really don't pay much attention to her.I know they make some stretchy contraptions that go around your leg and foot to keep your foot flexed and gently stretched while you sleep that are supposed to help.

Serious spinoff from the Johnnycakes disaster -How much do you all pay your babysitters? We usually get one of my (current or former) students and pay her $10 an hour, $40 min even if we come home early. <- cheapskate?
Going rate in NYC is $15/hr. We've got a couple we're paying $12 for our 4yo. We have one we pay $20 for our 2month old. I don't like that. NOt at all.

I'm confused. Is Walter Groggins supposed to be someone mildly famous or is that Carson Daly thread all shtick?

I've never read a single post by Groggins. I just know about him from how much p:e:ople hate him.

Alright, so it seems I'm somewhat on the cheap side, but not disgustingly so and my kid is real easy to watch. Gracias, all.

Tapas are such a screwjob. Shrink the portions, jack up the prices, and people will flock to them.
but you can share them?totally agree with you, btw. we have an entire street around the corner that is bascially only tapas restaurants/bars. the bar part is the key- you get drunk and then think it's fun to share overpriced crap with your friends. X

My wife has battled it off and on for years- sounds like the absolute suck.I think it's basically stretch and ice and hope it goes away eventually. like an STD. minus the stretching and icing.

I feel like mrpack but THIS is my niece(actually my wife's niece) with her grandpa. Could you please take a few minutes to vote? TIA

I would say that 75% of the time the groom and groomsmen are wearing a straight tie.
are you heterosexual?
Why? Are you horny?

I'm confused. Is Walter Groggins supposed to be someone mildly famous or is that Carson Daly thread all shtick?I've never read a single post by Groggins. I just know about him from how much p:e:ople hate him.
There is an actor named Walton Goggins, and a poster named Walton Goggins. They are two different people.

Was starving after work yesterday...long weekend with a lot of brews, coupled with an early drive back from Seattle to Portland absent any real food. So by 3pm yesterday, I was ready to eat my hand. I drive by a Fudruckers every day on my way home and haven't stopped in once in 3 years. Yesterday, I broke down and went in. Ordered up the 1/2 pound Chipotle BBQ Burger and had an ice cold Rolling Rock. Not sure if it was my hunger or not, but it was the best damn burger I've had in a long time. Loved piling on the fresh iceberg lettuce, the banana peppers and all the pickles I could want. Much much MUCH better than 5 Guys without that obnoxious "1 IN THE DOOR!!!!" bit they do at 5-Guys.

Might just have to get another one of those today as my wife is out of town and nobody made my lunch this morning. :bag:
