I don't mind Jimmy John's even as a resident food snob here. It's not as good as Potbelly's but worlds better than Subway or Quizno's. And best of all, that thing about their delivery being fast? Yesterday I couldn't get away from my desk at lunch and time between ordering on-line and getting my sammich delivered to my door was a whole eight minutes. Maybe that says something about quality but it's awfully good on the speed and taste to price ratio.

Both Jimmy John's and Quizno's were open and closed in less than a year and a half in downtown Albany. Quizno's was crap, Jimmy John's was decent and quick, but the local shops made better food for equal or less - could get a wrap stuffed with Boars Head meat and whatever veggies you wanted at Miranda's for $5 plus tax. They just opened a Subway up towards the Capitol and they have a line 15 people long at lunch.

DiBella's (western NY chain) trumps all of them and it's not even close. Wish we had a Wegman's here, their subs kick ### too.

Remember when you had your first Coors Lite and you hated it? Subway = Coors Lite. Jimmy Johns would be like Sam Adams or Sierra Nevada....there's better beers out there, but this will do. Subway - at least for me - won't do. I don't enjoy it. But I like this Jimmy Johns!

*shudder*I think I've seen one of those, but never felt the urge to stop there. Subway is atrocious, I'd much rather eat at a roach coach run by two Nigerians next to the freeway.

All this corporate food talk makes me happy I live in a small anti-corporate college town. All our best food joints are local-only and they're fantastic, especially for being in the middle of nowhere. We have all those franchise places, but the liberal police keep them where they belong: frothing & angry at the edge of town with the Walmart.

I haven't been to a franchise joint since I roadtripped to Cleveland on the Fourth of July and hit up BWW. This was surprisingly decent, despite my homegrown Anchor-bar snobbery about chicken wings. I don't know if that's because the wings are actually good, or because I downed 3 pitchers with my BIL and the waitress had nice cans.

Speaking of which, Homer and others, what is it about Ohio and nothing but corporate food? Every place except downtown Cleveland looked like it'd been erected overnight by the same d-bag company whose aesthetic taste came from too much fun with the Playdo Fun Factory. It was scary.
