Sad to say this, but it seems like the YMCA/Oregon Youth Soccer League has better policies in place than Penn State. Obviously I know you jest, but in order to coach youth sports here, we have to submit to a background check, sign a lenthy contract and agree to all sorts of rules and regulations. It's a pain the butt, but I am happy to go through them. As a coach, we are not permitted to give another child a ride in our car without another adult present. There are all sorts of saftey measures we have to agree too which are in place to protect us as much as they are the children. Makes you wonder just how we got here. Actually, doesn't make me wonder...I know exactly how we got here and it is really very frightening to think of all the heinous acts committed by past coaches to get us where we are now. :( But I do love coaching. It's a great deal of fun. I probably take it a bit too seriously, but I think our kids have a great time with it. This is the first year we kept a record or even logged final scores. In the past, it's all been for fun, so ramping up the competition was great. 2 months off until hoops...not sure what I'm going to do with my free time.

speaking of which, remember how I got a BS restraining order filed against me 3 years because my then wife was running a playbook that some dickmitten family law attorney told her to do? then it got dismissed since it was a total fabrication?guess who just found out he can't pass a background check.

Ouch. That totally sucks.And for some reason I read part of that as your ex-wife was running a bookmaking operation with her lawyer. Had to go back and read it again.

Oh yeah, I'm giving the CPAP some more serious try than I was. Mrs. SLB said I was snoring REALLY loudly (even for me) Saturday night and she couldn't sleep so she started timing how often I took a breath. Turns out I was taking 1 breathe every 47 seconds. No wonder I'm a freaking wreck.

I saw the surgeon who said I have to try CPAP for 3 months before being considered for surgery.

So you're saying I have a background check to prep for in 6 years. Geez....so different from 20-25 years ago.2 months gives you plenty of time to read every Red Aurerbach, Pat Riley, and Phil Jackson book in existence...GO!

If I can pass, anybody can. 3rd Grade Boys Hoops will be the first year I'm not on the floor coaching the team. We will have refs this year and I'll be coaching from the sidelines. Anybody got some basic plays and strategies I can use? Mex? Tre? Any booklets?

I never played organized hoops past 5th grade. I probably couldn't explain the "Pick & Roll" with a gun to my head.

It stays, but it should be blatantly obvious to anyone with a brain reading it that it was dismissed. Was there maybe a clerical mistake by the court? I'd check to see what exactly the record says. If it does note dismissed I'd think there'd be a way to challenge the organization doing the check. Certainly, if it's a state-run organization, there's gotta be some sort of admin review process or at least someone to talk to. Just be stupid to to have some blanket policy which didn't prevent situations like yours from happening.

Speaking of kids, I need a sanity check.

Are all 6 years olds difficult to deal with? We feel like our son has is going through some major changes lately, in terms of his behavior at home. Crying over little things, pouting, tantrums, etc. Plus he is extremely loud and sometimes seems very restless, like he can't just calm down. My wife is starting to talk about taking him to the doctor, but there is no way I want him medicated for any type of "hyperactivity". I think for the most part he's just being a kid.

He's doing awesome at school, not really getting into much trouble there or anything. It just seems lately, he doesn't want to listen to us, constantly arguing/debating everything we say.

No, but I have several buddies who do. They are supposed to really help with calf strength and teaching you how to run "correctly." Apparently they hurt like hell for awhile but eventually you get much faster (i.e. like the barefoot Kenyans). I couldn't bring myself to buy them.

These shoes have been trending for the yuppie/professional/environmentalist types who try to work out. I'd say half my crossfit groups use them - regardless of whether they are fit enough for them to even make a difference.

I deal with this issue often in my type of practice. It definitely is a shame and there are a lot of situations like this that happen. Just trying to help.

Divorce must be one the nastiest things a man can go through not involving rape or death.Thank god I'm a hopeless romantic married to a great great woman who understands all my insane hangups. My career might be a marginal disaster, but I highly doubt I will ever go through this crap. Sorry, GB.

it sucks for sure, but you can mitigate the fallout if you work at it AND if you have a co-parent who is willing to work with you. I'm one of the lucky ones in that regard.On Saturday, it was my ex-wife's night with the boys. But on Thursday, I received an invitation to watch the LSU/Bama game a friend's house. My buddy has a 5-yo son and was hoping I could come over with either one or both of my boys. I told him it wasn't my night, but I'd ask the ex. Sure enough, she was agreeable to it. And not only that, but she told me she would have had to work the Roller Derby match that night, but since she can't drive (3 month license suspension for 1st time DUI) she was just going to stay home. Well, the Roller Derby match was literally a few blocks away from my buddy's house, so I offered to pick her up with the boys, drop her off at the event with our oldest son who likes the Derby, take the youngest boy to my buddy's for the game, then pick them up and take them all home. Worked out perfectly and I think it's important for the boys to see that while mom and dad aren't married, they can still get along just fine.But I think I'm one of the lucky ones. Oh yeah, I'm giving the CPAP some more serious try than I was. Mrs. SLB said I was snoring REALLY loudly (even for me) Saturday night and she couldn't sleep so she started timing how often I took a breath. Turns out I was taking 1 breathe every 47 seconds. No wonder I'm a freaking wreck.

I just did the first day of P90X. When should I expect to be able to use my arms fully again?

Sad to say this, but it seems like the YMCA/Oregon Youth Soccer League has better policies in place than Penn State. Obviously I know you jest, but in order to coach youth sports here, we have to submit to a background check, sign a lenthy contract and agree to all sorts of rules and regulations. It's a pain the butt, but I am happy to go through them. As a coach, we are not permitted to give another child a ride in our car without another adult present. There are all sorts of saftey measures we have to agree too which are in place to protect us as much as they are the children. Makes you wonder just how we got here. Actually, doesn't make me wonder...I know exactly how we got here and it is really very frightening to think of all the heinous acts committed by past coaches to get us where we are now. :( But I do love coaching. It's a great deal of fun. I probably take it a bit too seriously, but I think our kids have a great time with it. This is the first year we kept a record or even logged final scores. In the past, it's all been for fun, so ramping up the competition was great. 2 months off until hoops...not sure what I'm going to do with my free time.

speaking of which, remember how I got a BS restraining order filed against me 3 years because my then wife was running a playbook that some dickmitten family law attorney told her to do? then it got dismissed since it was a total fabrication?guess who just found out he can't pass a background check.

Divorce must be one the nastiest things a man can go through not involving rape or death.Thank god I'm a hopeless romantic married to a great great woman who understands all my insane hangups. My career might be a marginal disaster, but I highly doubt I will ever go through this crap. Sorry, GB.

it sucks for sure, but you can mitigate the fallout if you work at it AND if you have a co-parent who is willing to work with you. I'm one of the lucky ones in that regard.

we actually get along great most of the time now, and when we don't we're willing to walk away. we're all going to disneyland together for two days before thanksgiving, and then spending the holiday separately with our families.the marriage sucked, but we work pretty well together as parents. not quite friends, but no overt animosity between us.

I'm one of the lucky ones in that regard.On Saturday, it was my ex-wife's night with the boys. But on Thursday, I received an invitation to watch the LSU/Bama game a friend's house. My buddy has a 5-yo son and was hoping I could come over with either one or both of my boys. I told him it wasn't my night, but I'd ask the ex. Sure enough, she was agreeable to it. And not only that, but she told me she would have had to work the Roller Derby match that night, but since she can't drive (3 month license suspension for 1st time DUI) she was just going to stay home. Well, the Roller Derby match was literally a few blocks away from my buddy's house, so I offered to pick her up with the boys, drop her off at the event with our oldest son who likes the Derby, take the youngest boy to my buddy's for the game, then pick them up and take them all home. Worked out perfectly and I think it's important for the boys to see that while mom and dad aren't married, they can still get along just fine.But I think I'm one of the lucky ones. I think I'm unreasonably sad about this whole Penn State thing. It just seems like, between that and the Texas judge, I've no reason to have faith in humanity. On a more minor note I add that my property manager is stealing money and Mr krista's parents won't join us for Thanksgiving, even though I haven't met his mom and they haven't seen their son in two years, because they have tickets to the WVU/Pitt game.

Sorry, just feeling depressed and this seems like the place to express that (or I need to bump SLB's thread).
