This has been one of the worst, if not the worst, work-weeks of my career for a variety of reasons (the least of which is half my staff apparently being on death's door). In the midst of that, I have this:
One of my paralegals (not one of the dying ones) is graduating tomorrow, getting a college degree at the age of 43. She has two daughters in college that she raised by herself. She works full time. And she is graduating as
valedictorian of her class. We had a little surprise celebration for her today, and I told her how incredibly proud I was. She told me that the only reason that she went back to school was because when I first came to the company, I had talked to her about it and inspired her to do it, making her believe for the first time that she really could achieve it.
