GM's thread about nothing (24 Viewers)

Nice work, YSR. And good luck, Shuke. We are sending my daughter to a half-day preschool starting in September that is run at/by a church, however we are not at all religious and the only exposure she gets to that kind of thing is when her grandparents take her to church once every few months when she spends the night with them and they go Sunday mornings (which we are fine with). I've been a bit uneasy since we signed her up with the whole religious thing, so now I'm even more worried. I'll have to monitor closely and ask lots of questions.
My daughters pre school isn't religious, but she still came home and told us its ok if she dies because jesus loves her. Then I had to explain how Jesus wasn't real like Spongbob Square pants and Santa Claus.

So I touched on the fact my 7 year old son was having some issues with being afraid of the dark all of a sudden. That seems to be passing already, but now he is having some separation issues. My wife said that yesterday (I worked late), he was crying because he missed me "so much" and was pulling out pictures of me to look at. This seems odd because I don't think he is this bad when I have gone on trips for 4 or 5 days, as recently as 2 weeks ago. Also, we were in the car the other day and he said that his mind was telling him to do things, like drop his Star Wars people out the window. After probing, he wasn't hearing voices, just having thoughts, and I tried to explain to him that everyone has thoughts and you just have to realize what is right and what is wrong and do the right thing. But yesterday he told my wife they were really bothering him. This makes me sick to my stomach, but I don't want to overreact.I am wondering if he is having some security issues with my wife not feeling well. There are days when she can't do much and has to rest on the couch, but he is pretty good about playing by himself or with our daughter. However, this just seems like a really weird time for something like this to crop up. He has been really busy. 3 weeks ago he had cub scout day camp every day for a week. The past two weeks he had swim lessons four days a week, and last week he went to another day camp at a church. Now that I just wrote that, I am wondering if this has something to do with that church camp. My wife and I are not religious, we don't go to church, our kids are not baptized. But we have sent him to this camp the past 3 years with his cousin. I am wondering if any of this is guilt-driven due to something he learned there.
I'm sure it's nothing, but yea that would make me feel a little nervous too.

Always room for negotiating.
Wait, this is at a university, right? Maybe not then. Academia does stuff their own way.
Yep, University of TN - state run. Apparently these things are pretty set, although I already know of one certification that I can get that will give me a 9% increase in salary.
you're not going to have to wear that god-awful orange, are you?

GB Tee Martin.

Frosty - A buddy is having a neighborhood party today and has a fire truck showing up at 4pm for the kids. I'm heading out there with hulkbaby if you're interested in stopping out. There will be beer.

Speaking of weird religious influences on your kids, my son just finished two years of pre-k at a Catholic school. They weren't *crazy* with the religious stuff, but I still hear it now and then, sometimes in amusing ways.

Like last week when my BIL and I took him to a Yankees game. On the way he announces, "All the dinosaurs are in heaven now."

Me & the BIL:

Flaming Bird (aka. Fly Jr.): "They're up there with Jesus."

Me: "Yea, Jesus is riding around on a raptor."

BIL: :lmao:

Flaming Bird: "No, no, no. He's on a T-Rex with a dinosaur army. They're taking out the bad guys in heaven."

BIL: "Um, there's no bad guys in heaven."

Me: "But Jesus still riding around on a T-Rex. Just tearing around heaven. ROAAAAAAR! T-Rex Jesus!"

BIL & Me: :lmao:

BIL: "Maybe they visit hell now and then. As if hell wasn't bad enough, every month T-Rex Jesus shows up with his dinosaur army and attacks."

BIL & Me: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Flaming Bird: "Stop laughing! It's not funny! Jesus died on the cross!"

BIL and Me:

BIL: "Ok, Jesus dying isn't funny. Jesus tearing up hell on a T-Rex is very funny."

Flaming Bird: "Yea, yea, yea. T-Rex Jesus!" :lmao:

Later I asked if the school told him that the dinosaurs went to heaven, dreading a Larryboy type response. He said no. "I came up with that idea all in my head."

"Ok, good."

Well - I made it through dad and lad camp. 105 in Missouri on Saturday. The heat was pretty bad but the kids all did pretty good. We had a raccoon invasion at 2:30 in the morning. Even with hanging the trash and keeping all the food locked down the came after it. One of thoe dad's woke and there was a huge coon about 3 feet from him. He could not go to sleep the rest of the night. The coons kept coming back for more every time we chased them off with a flashlight.

Next year I Briang my own tent. The ones the scouts provided wre horrible. Lesson learned.
Were you at Beumont/May camp too? F that place with and AIDS riddled dong.

as an fyi for you gramblers here, i recently took the plunge and bought a share of a yearling harness horse.

i have loved harness since my time in ny at yonkers, meadowlands, monticello and the old roosevelt. not sure of the lure, but getting outside to see the horses and analyzing the program always gave me pleasure. think it has been a dream to buy a harness horse forever......but the costs are CRZY. after much research, i got hooked up with vip internet stable, who syndicates relatively reasonably priced horses and you can buy shares and split the costs.

TROON is a rocknroll hanover son, who has many. he trained well in 2012 and won a pair of qualifiers, one at pocono downs and another at the big m. his first race was 6/29 in the 4th at the big m and he won his division of the john simpson memorial in 1:54.1 at 6/5. he is back in this friday at the big m, w.n. reynolds 7/6 in the 6th, post 9 (which sucks). ML is not up, but he should be better than those he is up against, many of whom ran slower last week in the other division.

not sure if anyone else has done this, but it has so far been a cool experience, any winnings is simply gravy imo.

if you enjoy harness, follow him, you might catch a price. he is late runner...... you can view his last at the big m via www.vipstable.com front page.

ciao!
Awesome.

:goodposting: Suxor.East Coast guys, where can I take advantage of these prices online? Love me some lobster.
This is my buddy's biz: My linkOr just PM me your address.
I would love to try the stew. Does he sell frozen lobsters, just the tails or just the meat? I know love is better but I'm not sure what I would do with 10, 1.25 live lobsters right now.

You've seen pics of me, I'm not getting mistaken for a bear anytime soon.

Dang, sorry to hear that, GB. I didn't realize your wife was having such issues too.If there is one thing I've learned being a father, and it isn't that much longer than you, is that kids are nuts. They say some of the oddest ####### things at times. You obviously want to keep an eye on it but I'm sure he's fine.

Ive been single again for a little over a week now. I have gotten laid more days than I haven't. I got road head for the first time in about 15 years yesterday. I have three girls that are trying to see me again
So the "how're you hanging in there" e-mail I've intended to write is really for naught anyway, yes? :)
:lmao: I wouldn't say it's the healthiest way to deal with my newfound status and it's certainly not sustainable.

Heck, I already had to cut one of them loose - after hanging out with her once, she seemed waaaaayyy too into me, in like an "I wanna wear your face as a mask" sort of way. Met up with her for drinks on Sunday to let her know it wasn't going to work out. Still had sex one last time then she went out to her car, cried for a little and eventually chastised me over text for not checking to make sure she got home ok. Think I got out of that one just in time.
Have you learned nothing? You only get out of relationships like that after mind-blowing sex, house cleaning services, threats of suicide related to South American trips, and breaking and entry.
I turn over the chronicles of crazy to Guster. I think I've settled into a healthy, normal relationship--although I'm not sure, since I've never been in one before.

IIRC, they only have frozen tails, not wholes, but they are imported from Canada. You could freeze the live ones you don't cook immediately.

She's a preschooler? You told a preschooler Santa isn't real?
You run out of conversation topics pretty quick while the kid is suckling.

You haven't heard the last from her. Hide any pet rabbits.

I'm starting to think Midwest small town America is underrated by those of us who don't live in flyover states. No traffic, people are really nice, I just played a round of golf in about two hours on a gorgeous 95 degree day, and you can get founders and bells here. Plus I don't have to work when I'm here.

She already knew that. Common sense older siblings and all. We don't celebrate Christmas.

Only downside I can see so far is that fox news is on in just about every home and establishment I've been in so far. Pretty sure they take pictures of Obama to the shooting range around here.

Borrowing my dad's and yeah, it's pretty sweet. I am going to be really depressed when I run out of wood to chop. Thinking about doing this as a second job.

Those are the bonuses. Where you at?

Shuke- that's tough news. Nothing can make you more helpless than a distraught child. I also suspected the church camp as soon as I read it. Those are heady concepts they disperse, especially for a child from a non-religious home. I have no idea what your kid is being taught there, but concepts eternal hell and damnation should not really be in a 4-5 year old's schema.
I agree even though I don't have any kids.
My mom keeps trying to push church camps on our sons because they 'look like so much fun!'. We push back. I went to enough of those as a kid to last me 10 lifetimes. Not sure I understand sending kids to church camp if you aren't religious. Shuke, have you considered taking him to a therapist who specializes in children? Might not be a horrible idea to see where his head is at.

you were the first one i thought of once i realized what i had gotten myself into :lmao: she's texted me three times today to let me know that she got drunk, deleted me off FB and wants to start over as just friends for now. i'm great, wants to get to know me better, etc. oof

If those are the worst thoughts your kid is having, I think you're in OK shape. When his brain starts telling him to drop his little brother or his friend Charlamagne out the car window, then you start worrying imo.

She will do anything, but with a price. The more unusual or degrading the act, expect a proportional increase in the crazy.

I hope I'm not scaring you. We sent my son to a church pre-school for two years because it was really close and really cheap, and we never had any issues.
Good. You're not scaring me, but I've always had my concerns and this will help me remember to ask questions if things pop up and talk to my daughter about what kind of things she's learning. It's a Lutheran school and they're pretty mellow so I'm not too worried about it.
