When's the Malaise baby shower? How far of a drive is Portland from Seattle anyway? I'm thinking I should try and see some west coast football while I'm out here. Oregon, Washington, Seahawks, etc.Should probably check out an MLS game or two as well. So much to do. These 5+ months are going to fly by.
Bring weed. Lots of it.

My friend who is getting married in SF just emailed me to ask if Romo and I would like to stay in the penthouse suite at the Fairmont on Saturday night after the wedding. They rented it for the reception, and were originally going to stay there, but they have decided to stay in another suite in the hotel so that they can actually leave[/] the reception and have some privacy. And because they have already paid for it, they would hate for it to go unused.

That decision was possibly the biggest no-brainer in the history of no-brainers for me.

Also, because I was able to fly us there with miles, and three of our four nights are free due to hotel points and an overly generous bride, we are only going to be paying for our Sunday night hotel which will be near-ish the airport. This frees up our budget for activities and food, so any and all recommendations are welcome.
 Want to get drunk in a really cool/historic place? Get to North Beach somehow and go to Vesuvio. Right across from the City Lights bookstore. Kerouac used to get bombed there.

Edit: Just checked...it's less than a mile away from the Fairmont.
upstairs at Vesuvios reading beat poetry or some Bukowski whilst getting hammered is a fond memory.
Exactly. Then I hit like 30 and went "what the hell is this crap?"

If your wife is still out of town on Aug 30, you MUST got to Minneapolis for THIS. You could probably stay on Frosty's couch.

So my friend is trying to rent an apt in NYC month to month. He finds an ad on Craigslist that's asks for 50% rent ($600) plus a $500 security deposit upfront to "book" the apartment. He wants it via western union wire transfer and cannot show the apt because it's occupied. Total scamm right? The email exchange read very much like a Nigerian prince thing grammatically.

is there any transaction that requires a western union transfer which is not a scam??? I would guess over half of Western Union transactions are for Nigerian scams.

:lmao: :lmao: Where have you been GB? I also need a pick of the grad please.
Don't know the grad; went to h.s. with the gift giver.Standing next to Yugoslavian jet fighter

I can't see her so I'll have to take your word for it.
The hits just keep coming........

My Uncle died the other day, he looked great at my moms funeral. Was a Capt. in the Milwaukee Police Dept for many years, great guy.

Yesterday while on the phone with my daughter who is in Illinois visiting friends, we were talking while she was stopped, all of a sudden I hear the phone rattle around and can hear her pick it up, she says " ####, I was just hit, gotta go!"... Click.

Couldn't get ahold of her for over 20 mins. You don't want to know how that feels. She finally calls and is crying. She got rear ended and pushed into a Limo. She never saw it coming, nor could she do anything if she did. The Limo driver saw it and was basically a witness. The guy that hit her was gracious enough to turn tail and run, and neither my daughter nor the Limo driver got a license plate. No tickets were issued, and her car has damage but not too bad.

Today she gets a call from the Limo driver asking her how she was, and gives her a heads up that the Limo company is going to come after her for damages. How is this possible if the clown that hit them ran?

Also found out my wife will not be able to do any Physical Therapy for 3 months, instead of 3 weeks!!!

Awesome!!!!!! Cooking, cleaning and caring for another 13 weeks!!!

Yay me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to hear that GB. You can drink with me if you like.

In some states if you rear end someone you're always at fault. Even if someone pushed you into them. Exact same thing happened to a friend of mine here, he got dinged for it.
My sister was the last car in a six-car chain collision. She couldn't stop in time and rear-ended the car in front of her, then everyone came to a stop. The car behind her swerved out of the way in time. The car behind that one was actually a semi, which proceeded to rear-end her car bad enough that the rear half of her car was completely crushed in up to the back of her seat. The 18-wheeler kept pushing through the whole pile and totaled everyone before finally coming to a stop.My sister was declared the one at fault for "following too close".

***ACTIVATE PARENT CHAT***

19 month old has recently begun to FREAK OUT after 2-3 minutes in bed.

everything leading up to this has been cake. no problems going to bed. no fighting. no fussing. no complaint. we read a few books, she goes to bed and is out in a couple minutes.

last 2-3 weeks.. same routine.. except about 2-3 minutes after laying her down for the night she goes ####ing BALLISTIC. shrieking, screaming, jumping up and down, shaking her crib. you name it.

this goes on for 3-5 minutes, she stops and then passes the #### out.

any suggestions on what might be happening? how to stop it?

Kids are insidious little bastards. They plan mind games like that so that you'll go in there and coddle them and take them out of bed and let them stay up. Fall for that game once, and you're a dead man walking. They will steal your soul if you don't keep a vigilant eye. The only thing you can do to win the ongoing war is to remind them that you're the parent and if you want to leave them in the bed, then they're going to stay in the ####### bed.But seriously, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. She's asleep in less than five minutes.

Damn, sorry to hear about all this.Regading the accident, the limo's insurance company may try to make a case that your daughter didn't leave enough distance, but there were no citations so I'd tell them to F off.

Portland's just a little over 3 hours from Seattle, although if you stop by Gig Harbor for a drink with me on the way down, it's probably more like a day and a half.
:lmao: It's 180 miles as the crow flies and I don't know what that means. If you leave off-hours and drive like a man from the East Coast, you can get here in less than 3 hours. I've done it in 9 parsecs. Train is a cool alternative too as you can avoid traffic, see some more of the land and drink beers. There are casinos up and down the drive, most near you, a few near me, but nothing worth writing home about. We could play some poker there, but it would be far more fun to get a bunch of the Seattle guys together and stage a few California Hold 'Em tournies.Had I known you were up for it, I would have held back some of my Duck tickets. I sold half my season ticket package due to baby Petunia and the remaining 3 games are spoken for. Duck tickets are hard to come by, but well worth it if you ever wanted to check it out. You could find a ticket on CL or an alternative method. If you go to the Stanford or UW game, I'll be down there and I'll be partying hard (sans kids). I've got hotel reservations for both games so you're welcome to crash with us if you can get a ticket.I can also get you to a Blazers game in the late fall, but they are going to suck compared to a college football, pro football or MLS game...yes, the MSL here is huge. Both the Sounders and the Timbers sell out and draw great crowds. I don't have Timber tickets, but could get them no problem. If you are into the outdoors at all, let me know. There's a crapton of stuff you can hit and nows the best time...Olympic Penninsula (sp?), Mt. Ranier, Mt. Saint Helens, Ape Caves, Squeim (sp?), The Gorge, etc...Drifter/Rover/Ninja can fill in some gaps there, but you should try and log at least a few outdoor adventures. I mean, you're going to have easy access to some of the best mountains in the country. See if you can explore just a little bit of them while you can.Mariners suck, but Safeco is a top notch place to watch Tanner's favorite sport. Minor league hockey should kick off in late Oct or early Nov and both Seattle and Portland are fun to watch.

Film festival looks awesome but there's no way I'm going anywhere near Frosty's couch.

I'm going to be in Sunriver next summer. Feel free to make the 3 hour drive and hang out with me and 50 or so other family members.

:goodposting: X 2I hit the back of a cab van a few years ago pulling out of a parking garage. I thought he was going, looked back down the one way street from a dead stop, saw it was clear and hit the gas. The cab van had NOT gone anywhere. I was in a little Altima. It BARELY dented his huge chrome bumper. Guy got out screaming and yelling like a mad man. Good thing it was the parking garage at my work and I tipped the parking attendants...they were right there behind me in a second to calm this jackhole down. Damage was miniscule.Didn't stop his cab rep from calling me and saying that the guy lost out on his bonus because I hit him and felt I was entitled to pay for his lost bonus on top of the minor damages. I laughed and hung up. Never heard back, insurance handled, all was fine. Tell the Limo company to pound sand and let your insurance handle this.

You've done this before, right? Don't you drive? Man, that's an expensive plane ticket to fly into Bend...doesn't matter where you fly in from, it's egregious. If you fly through Portland, let me know. If not, I'd be up for taking my family to Sunriver. House rentals are still dirt cheap (glut of inventory down there still) and that's a great place to take young kids. Would you be up for a rafting trip? I'll disc golf if you are...

Do you hire people with degrees in chemical engineering and 11+ years on experience in consumer research??
LET'S TALK CHEMICAL ENGINEERING!Seriously. How many chemical engineers do we have here? You, me, Pickles... any others?Edit: And by chemical engineers, I mean people with a BS in chemical engineering. Sounds like you use your degree about as much as I do.

A few weeks ago I accepted a friend request from a girl I dated for six or seven months back in '08. Yesterday she posts this...

Being friends with a certain ex on facebook feels like knives being stabbed through my heart. Lol. Note to others: only friend exes you are relieved are exes.

I'm so vain, I probably think this post is about me. [/carlysimon]

Side note: Apparently this former chemist is now getting acting(?) work in roles such as "yoga mom" in In Plain Sight, "show girl #4" in Vegas (new Quaid/Chiklis tv drama), and "Palin staffer" in Game Changer.

Surprised by this, as she kinda has a face for radio. I suppose she looks pretty hot when out of focus in the background though.

Also, I'm an #######.

For the Bobs....

My wife has been missing a week now.

The police said to prepare for the worst.

So, I had to go down to Goodwill to get all of her clothes back

For Homer...

Went to the pub with my girlfriend last night.

Locals were shouting, "pedophile" and other names at me, just because my girlfriend is 21 and I'm 50.

It completely spoiled our 10th anniversary.

I'm going to be in Sunriver next summer. Feel free to make the 3 hour drive and hang out with me and 50 or so other family members.
No, I've never been to Oregon before. I think I mentioned this trip to Sunriver last year. That's probably what you're thinking of. We will be driving. No idea what my schedule will be like when we get there. This is the big family reunion we do every three years.
