Yes, but you would not be a dickmitten for letting said employee know that even though things are rough they are being paid to do a job and at some point you need her to pull her weight. My boss recently had something fairly similar come up.He let the guy go but paid him for four months after the fact to give him time to find a new job. He also gave him a bike. Well we had said employee quit this morning. No notice, nothing. [rant] This broad is almost 60, so say she is computer illiterate is an insult to people that are computer illiterate. She also, despite being in sales, doesn't quite understand the concept of "profit". Actually, she does because we kept trying to move her to a commission plan (you know based on profit) but she refused because she wouldn't make as much money. If you called or e-mailed her she would get back to you at her convenience if at all. All of her "new" sales "ideas" are 25 years old at least. She has ZERO concept of what can be done on the Internet. Can't work with anybody in Customer Service and acts all high and mighty. She had the nerve to yell at me once. I wanted to fire her when that happened a couple of years ago. Just an annoying, worthless POS. Then her husband gets cancer. He has to quit his job. She stopped coming into the office altogether except for meetings. I was actually happy about that. STF away.We were too nice and let too much slide because we were sympathetic to her situation. We could also quantify her worth thanks to her sales numbers. We were breaking even. If you figure in insurance, 401K, etc., we were losing money. A couple of weeks ago, unbeknownst to me, she asked to transfer her work cell to a personal plan. Don't know the BS lying excuse but one of the other owners did it. Apparently everybody knew about this but me and they figured something was up. Today she came in this morning and left a note saying she was quitting effective immediately. She "had an offer she just couldn't refuse" and we weren't paying her enough. (YOU'RE IN SALES, YOU WANT MORE MONEY, HOW ABOUT YOU WORK AND ACTUALLY SELL MORE STUFF?!!!!) Her "doctor thought it best for her to quit this way" because she "didn't want to get stressed about it". I'm not so much mad she quit, just how she did it. Not to mention how we have carried her dumb ### out of the goodness of our hearts. Question for the godless heathens in here.
I am a man of faith. When something crappy is happening to one of my friends, I pray for them, regardless of their spirtual leanings. With my Christian friends, I'll let them know I'm doing so. Is it weird to hear "hey man, I'm praying for you?" Should I just not bring it up? Or even though you think it's hooey do you still appreciate the thought?

Exactly. However I don't think she could have acted any more like an ungrateful #####. I would spit on her given the opportunity. You want to leave, fine. Be up front. Give two weeks notice. Act as if you have a clue on how good we've been to you and your husband.

I think it depends on how pissy of an atheist the person is. Some will take it as a nice gesture, some will be like "Waah waaah, God lets little kids get cancer all the time, he doesn't care." Some will just think that, but then be polite.And I mean, they're kind of right, but it's not cool to say that. It just really depends on the kind of person you're dealing with.

I still appreciate the thought, unless it's said in a "We're praying for you because we know you're a godless heathen and you really need to change your ways before you burn in the raging fires of hell for eternity" way, which generally only comes from my step-aunt.
1. People suck. Sorry, GBSLB.2. If GBSLB's company doesn't have all its employees sign confidentiality agreements, as well as non-competes if they can, then they're doing it wrong.3. Doesn't sound like you'll miss two weeks of her work, and you get to save that two weeks of salary. Sounds like a winning situation. For schadenfreude purposes, I hope she forgot to ask if she goes on their medical benefits right away or has a waiting period.
