GM's thread about nothing (82 Viewers)

Sad news good buddy. I know this is a very hard time for you, but take solace in knowing her suffering is over and you did all you could to comfort and support her. I know you were kind of upset that she was moved to hospice the other day, but I believe that had to be a more peaceful final days for her than a cold hospital. You are a good man and were a terrific son. Stay strong and know you did the best you could for her.
cos said it better than I could have. TPW, Bogart.
:goodposting: :(
Hang in there, Bogart.I guess it isn't a good day for GMTAN folks and our folk...My dad passed early this morning. We knew a day or so ago that it was only a matter of days. He went peacefully after his overall health declined due to Alzheimer's (which can go #### itself BTW). I guess this is one of those passings that almost seems as a blessing. Most of the time I feel like I really lost my dad about 3 or 4 years ago when this disease robbed him (and us) of who he really was.Rest easy, dad. :banned: (pretend that's a vodka and tonic)
Alzheimer's is truly a demonic horrible disease. So sorry about this. No one should have to go through something that awful. My condolences.
I would say Cos's post applies here too. Still, it's hard to say goodbye. :(

I'm on the bus and some weird looking 18ish year old dude with a lazy eye is staring at me with a weird look on hos face every time I look up. If he stabs me it's been nice knowing you guys

Very good posting. in my opinion is there is no human malady more devastating and cruel than Alzheimer's. I am so happy to hear this suffering has ended for you and your family. Mourn the loss of your father those years ago, but celebrate the death of the hideous monster that possessed him. Take care of your mom and make sure she doesn't struggle with guilt over the relief she must now feel.

So my wife bought some stuff at Wal-Mart yesterday, and then went to grab some lunch. When she tried to pay for her lunch using the change she got back at Wal-Mart, it turns out that the $10 bill they gave her was counterfeit. I did some searching online, and the consensus course of action was to call the local Secret Service office.SS: Secret ServiceMe: My wife went shopping yesterday and got a counterfeit $10 bill in her change.SS: *silence*Me: Hello?SS: What do you want to know?Me: What do I do with it?SS: Just take it to the bank, and they can send it in to us.From the secret service website, I thought they would want to file a report or something, but this woman could not have cared less. If that level of nonchalance is indicative of how they operate, maybe it's time to fire up the inkjet.

My mom passed about an hour ago. She doesn't hurt anymore. She is not tired anymore. She is at peace. Thanks to everyone here for their good thoughts, wishes, prayers. And thanks even more for the constant day to day nothingness that makes me think, laugh, cry and question. Bunch of good people in here.
My condolences GB.She's in a better place now.Prayers to you and your family. :(

how did they spot the counterfeit bill? is it obvious when you look at it?
I could tell as soon as I touched it, and then by looking at it more closely there are some obvious flaws. It may not even be the right size. It's close, but I think it's smaller than a real one (I haven't compared it). The biggest giveaway was just that it was printed on regular paper.

Yep. I took $300 out of an ATM (my bank) and one of the $20 was fake. Could tell when I touched it. So I went into the bank immediately and they told me I had to go to my home branch where I opened my account. WTMF So I did the next day since it wasn't all that convenient. They then began to grill me like I was trying to trick them or something. Yeah, I've been banking with you for 13 years all so I could scam you out of $20. Bunch of a-holes.

:goodposting: My wife's aunt is in her early 50s and was just diagnosed with this. She is a wonderful, delightful woman who an light up a room the second she walks into it. In just over one year's time, it is astonishing to see how negatively this disease has impacted her and her whole family, especially her husband who is just a wreck. I really hope some of the recent breakthroughs in experimental treatments with mice hurry up to fruition and can reverse the effects of this disease in humans because it is truly awful.Tanner, my deepest condolences to you and yours and man, let's kick the hell out of this thing one day.Cancer too. You can blow me.Also, testicular elephantiasis. You ever try taking a dump with that? Brutal.

Bogart and Tanner, sorry to hear about your losses. To bring us back to happier times, tomorrow at 2 my wife will go under the knife for her C-section. Hopefully by 2:15 I will be holding daughter #3 (Homer stay away). I am thinking a shot video from the recovery room might be in store. My wife has a great group of friends, and once I got their numbers day care just fell into place, and they have been giving me dinners everyday. We now have a freezer full of precooked meals that should last us 3 weeks.

in that nutty gun control thread, [icon] mentions that he carries a gun with him in case he gets carjacked or something.is this common? do any of you dudes drive/walk around strapped in public or is this just a part of life when you live on the hard streets of Memphis?

When I had restaurants in the past, I always carried because of the cash I was toting around, leaving the restaurant late at night, yada yada. But never since then.

I keep meaning to get my conceal and carry just to have it. But I'm sooooo lazy.

Same here. I did everything (fill out forms, go thru background check, etc.) but go to the class. The classes are about 10 hour marathons here in Texas and most of the instructors are Glenn Beck wannabes who spend half the class railing against liberals or other persons of common sense.

HEY, EASY! :hot:
I'm told downtown is super safe but the rest is like the Wild West.

One time in my super safe suburb I heard what I thought was someone breaking into my truck outside in the middle of the night. So, like a ninja, I grabbed my gun and quietly slipped out of my townhome to take a look. Peeked around the corner and saw that it was someone's vehicle across the street. Neighbors were out and stuff checking it out as well. No one was there though and the owner just turned the alarm off and everyone went back to bed. Cool story, bro.

I really can't imagine carrying a gun all day. Maybe he's worried a couple husbands will come after him?
