Krista, you'd be surprised at the overall coolness of Columbus Ohio. Fits your criteria to a T, plus lots of corporate HQ's there. Now that I think about it, it's a little like Austin North...Liberal city surrounded by Rush Limbaugh country, college town, state capital, mostly transplants, young professionals everywhere, etc.

Also off the list due to Mr. krista. Still too close to his family, plus he lived there before. :kicksrock:

What do my hipstery friends think of Frightened Rabbit?Listening to the new album on Spotify...seems pretty decent.
I heard 30 seconds of one song and skipped it. I hate hipsters with the power of however many stars we're up to these days.
Did Stu rape you in your sleep?
Stu's not a hipster, at least not in my book. Not trying too hard to be cool or retro or what have you. Not to mention you can't rape the willing, so he's pretty much immune from prosecution for rape.

Serious answer... I like "The Midnight Organ Fight" a lot. Several others in the FFA also did iirc. I listened to it so much that an exgf quoted

shortly after I dumped her. :bag: Their other two albums were pretty good too. I haven't heard the new one yet but need to.

I like Scottish bands. FR and their little buddies We Were Promised Jetpacks always put on a good show. I've seen them four or five times each.

I was told that was part of the retainer. Best lawyer ever.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Staying put ain't so bad; packing and moving is a PITA.

I don't like any place conservative. 5/5 - like Austin, Louisiana is conservative, but New Orleans isn't at all.

I don't like any place religious. 4/5 - b/c of heavy French & Spanish influence and large African American population, I would bank that most of the city "claims a religion"...but mostly Catholics (functioning alcoholics) and none of the bible belt BS that is often associated with the south

I don't like any place with low IQs. 3/5 - there is still a large part of the population that is poor and uneducated...however we've made great strides since Katrina...fastest growing city link (forbes)...have been getting great pub on all young professional and entreprenurship fronts over the past few years

bad drivers. 5/5 - part of this is b/c cost of living is cheap relative to being in a city with lots to do...but if you live close to the action, you never have to really mess with a lot of traffic at all

people who have never lived anywhere else in their ####### lives. 3/5 - see low IQs answer. Not perfect, but vastly improving

or who like chain restaurants or monster trucks. 5/5. I think the city of New Orleans doesn't even allow chain restaurants. Drew Brees had to pull all sorts of strings to get a Jimmy Johns franchise near the Tulane campus.
New Orleans - see above for rankings out of 5. :homer:
Still in my top five.
 Great cost of living too. Not sure what the Kristabudget is, but you can get a 1600 sq ft bad ### condo in the warehouse district (walking distance to CBD and tons of restaurants/bars) for around $300k give or take

Thorn & Homer - looks like y'all better batten down the hatches for the Nor'easter coming.
Love the accuracy of these things. One foot of snow, or more, locally up to two feet. Margin of error 100%, or more. :loco:
You're Irish, so having plenty of booze isn't a problem. Do y'all use toilet paper or milk? If not, depth-of-snow won't matter.STAY STRONG
Wait. Thorn is a good-looking Irish lawyer with killer dance moves, smooth with the ladies and dashing good looks? I have a brother!?!?!!!!
I don't know about dashing good looks. More like light-jogging good looks.
I have a slightly less attractive brother?!???!

None of the Mellyholes went as swimmingly as coshole. Lots of self-imposed drama and IQUITting going on.
I don't remember any drama at MH3? Pretty much an awesome experience, and one I will never forget.
All you dreams came true?
I guess JoeT was a pretty big disappointment.
Ok.
Mellow was exactly what I was not expecting.

Anyone think a trip to Mexico is safe?

Some friends are heading down there for a guys trip. There is supposed to be good diving and fishing there. I'm more interested in just spending a few days on the beach with some mexican beers. The location is supposed to be a town south of Cancun.

Wondering if any of the GMTANers have been lately?

Akumal Mexico
Coworker just had a cousin get in a scuba diving accident and die in a Mexican hospital. unsure

saying this as heterosexually as possible - this movie looks cute as hell. Be fun to take a little kid to. (sidenote: ever notice how it's completely legit to say something general in regards to kids like "I really like kids - they're fun to hang out with." But if you particularize it and say something like "I really like seven year olds" it immediately becomes weird. Interesting.)
wtf

Anyone have thoughts on the Raleigh, NC area?
AI grew up in this area. I love Raleigh. Moved to Missouri 5 years ago and I miss it a lot. 2 hours from the beach 4 hours to the mountains. You have triple a baseball in Durham. A few hours to Charlotte for the Panthers or NASCAR if you want to get your redneck on. Traffic can be a bit of a mess and wake county has some issues with school zoning because of the growth. The downtown area is pretty good. Decent bars and live music. You are in the south so if you are looking for liberal it aint gonna be your cup of tea. What else you wanna know.

Trying to watch WRATH OF THE TITANS. This is worse than eating ####, puking it up, then making a puke-#### pie and ####ting on that and then eating it.

What's with this Pickles coy I-don't-live-where-I've-said-I've-lived-for-years shtick?
I moved.
When? Where? What are you doing now?
I feel like explaining this to you would only foster more confusion. You're friends with me on Facebook and LinkedIn, yet this is somehow a mystery to you.
I don't recall seeing anything on Facebook. You really think I'm studying career paths of my linkedin "friends"?But I just checked. Job description seems pretty made up.
:goodposting: No way any of those words on your LinkedIn are real things.

Research topics: nanoparticle synthesis and applications, colloidal and interfacial phenomena, biomedical engineering, bioconjugate chemistry, spectroscopy

:loco:

Congrats! Have you cornholed SLB yet?
