Ignore it. That's a dumb request and they are using it to weed out people. Get on linked in and find a recruiter for the company and go direct to them.

If it's like a field that you have to fill, you can put "negotiable", otherwise ignore.

Don't answer it with a number. Say something along the lines of you feel that your skillset and experience would bring a lot of value blah blah blah. They have a range of what they can pay. It's been budgeted and approved by a number of people. Your answer won't change that range, it will only let them know they can lowball you. I know it's hard, but don't be the first to give a number.

I told him I made x plus health care and retirement. He replied "we can pay you about 3/4 of x with another 2/4 for on plan commissions. We cover health care but have no retirement. But...we should ipo in the next 24 months with a valuation somewhere in the high 9 figures. And you would be employee 320 or so. Still interested?"

So tonight was going awesome. Mrs. SLB made me a great dinner. Boys were good. Put them to bed, I'm rounding second when Cal comes down and says Dylan is crying. Go check on him and he can barely breath. He had a cough, but no big deal really. Mrs. SLB was going take him to the doctor tomorrow. Now he was coughing his head off. We gave him a breathing treatment a earlier too. Aw ####. I held in my arms in nothing but my underwear until the ambulance came. I didn't care about the chick ER people. Dylan and Mrs. SLB just left for the hospital. Cal says "nothing can happen to him. I would sell my soul to make him better." I can't believe Cal knew this concept but I'm impressed with the love.WIDE AWAKE
