<_< Speaking of Romo, he just left for Texas for a week of training in Irving. It's 6:30 a.m. and I'm about a full day of cleaning, sorting, and trips to Goodwill. So much easier to throw away the junk that his parents bring over when he's not here.

If Stu survived the parade yesterday I'll get him, Bogart, and Romo together for a Bocce game at Dealey Plaza this afternoon.

Took the kids to a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese today, at 9:30 in the morning. I didn't even know they were open that early (they actually open at 9am) and I sure didn't know they started churning out crappy pizza that early, but they do.

Our group showed up and the only other customer in the entire place was creepy guy playing "Deal or No Deal" for tickets to get overpriced kids junk. But to each his own. My cousin and I quickly ran out of pedo jokes and the guy quickly left after a few minutes. Anyway, we were there for three hours and I was only out 20 bucks because the games there are so cheap.

Now back at the house where we are at that awkward "we did something today, too late in the day to do something before going back to their mom's house" place. Thinking about just pouring pixie sticks down them until time to go.

So in addition to being St. Patrick's Day, it was raining yesterday. I knew parking wouldn't be easy so we got there more than an hour early. I figured that we could eat at one of the restaurants at the arena but learned that you needed the proper ticket/crednetials to do so. I have to say it was humbling because I haven't been to a Blues game in a LONG time where I wasn't in a luxury suite or preferred seating. So I got us couple Nathan's hot dogs (that were freaking awesome) and we ate them on the steps of an emergency exit the way a couple of boys from the north side should.

Well there was still 45 minutes to face off so I figured we would just walk around a bit. That's when I notice that you could exit to have a smoke. I REALLY needed a smoke. So we head out the door to the parking garage and I could tell he was starting to get bored. So decided to show him all of the building in sight that I have been in. He thought that was cool and wanted to know what each one was like. Well them my attention was turned to all of the hot chicks walking into the game. So I asked him to point out the cute girls to me. "There's one! There's one! OH THERE'S TWO TOGETHER!" I couldn't have been more proud. Most of them were very legal but a couple were like 10. When you're 6 you have a pretty good range to appreciate the fairer sex.

He chanted let's go Blues pretty much the entire first period and was way into the game. Of course I'm making friends not trying. Why complete strangers come up to me and want to BS is beyond me. Anyhow after the first period he wanted to leave. I considered bribing him with Dippin Dots or something but hey, it was his birthday. I felt bad about pretty much burning $90 tickets though.

As we are walking to the exit I feel his hand get pulled away from mine. I turn around, concerned and he's like pointing at this Offdee 10 "Dad, look at that one." I look and yeah. She was younger 20's, 5'10, blond, not noticeable make up. Wow.

I was a very proud Dad even though I know I taught him at least 4 for terrible things last night.

They made this big ### fire and I was more than a little concered considering we were in a subdiviosn. "Relax kid" I was told. They then took two (new) steel trash cans (like the ones I used to have to lug to the curb when I was kid) filled the bottom with potatoes, then a big layer of cabbage and then corned beef on top. Filled it up with water and put them on the fire for a good 4 hours. Man, it was pretty awesome.

I'm on my way to getting drunk and more and more convincing myself to say "#### it" to all these jobs and just move to Nicaragua now. Should mention the idea started taking root yesterday before I was trying to get drunk.

I watch all these House Hunters International episodes where people just take a leap, with no job and no roots, to a new place. I mean, they don't have two houses that they own outright. They don't have xxxxxxxx (only SLB knows, or doesn't ) in savings. They have kids or something that makes things more complicated.

I have a cat that needs a special diet I could bring down with me. I have an opportunity right now where I could work 20 hours a week if I wanted and make $100K/year, which is more than enough. Or I could forgo any work at all and just live on rental income from the other house (plus savings if necessary--shouldn't be). No health insurance? Health care is top-notch and cheap as dirt there.

Why wouldn't I do this? The only reason seems to be that I'm scared to give up huge earnings potential and do what I'd prefer instead.

Say you keep making bank. Save another 500k or a million in the next 10-15 years. Then what? You'd move to a tropical local and live a retired tropical life. So, if you can swing that now, why not?My idea of a tropical retirement is to move somewhere, buy a little place, and work 20 hrs a week locally at some cool job like giving jeep tours or kayak instructor. Something you don't have to take work home or worry about anything.

Thanks. Another idea was to do just what you say, work a little job that I like instead. Could buy a car and do a tour business really easily, between my charming friend Julio and me. So give up all the crap entirely.

Wife and I considered living in Hawaii for our first few years in marriage, before we started having kids. We actually bought a book called 'So You Want to Live in Hawaii'. It gave really good pros and cons. But they did say that a lot of people get island fever. Paradise is great but some folks feel trapped after a while not being able to travel easily. Although I guess if you can just afford to fly, that's not really an issue.

Construction will be about 17k but furnishings will make up the majority of the balance. It is only 600 sq ft. You just have a toddler, you don't need any stinking furniture, just a nice carpet and walls that he can draw on. Oh and a big fathead poster of uncle scupper.

Thanks guys. Just got home. I've had WAY too many grown men crying in my arms lately. (Make your own jokes.) I think Dylan/Hendrix had it right. Life is but a joke. I hope with every fiber of my being that there is something better on the other side.I think I've told this story before but maybe not. Mrs. SLB didn't hear it until last night for the first time and she knows, well as much as she needs to, pretty much everything about me.When I was 13 I got this dream job at a baseball card store. I was in there all the time and I knew my ####, mostly, I wanted to make money. So he hired me on to help him out on a part time basis. Needless to say, there is a lot of down time in such an enterprise so we talked a lot. His outlook on life was that we are in hell now and the only way we get to move on was to be good otherwise you keep getting reborn into this world. Sort of Hinduism I guess. The place wasn't close to my house so my Mom had to drive me there. So when I got my license I would pop in from time-to-time to say hello. I stopped in when I was 17 to learn he died of a heart attack. This guy, Bill, wasn't overweight or anything in the least either. RIP brother Bill. More and more I think that he was right.At the very least, when I left my GB's were laughing. I can't even tell you what I said, I was on autopilot. At least they got to laugh today for a little while. :(

found out via FB that an acquaintance of mine had a heart attack at 35 and then caught pneumonia in the hospital. Guy is in great shape. Not a close friend, but he played in a band in college that used to always play our parties...looks like he's still in the hospital, so not sure of the exact progress...but it still hit home a tad for me
