GM's thread about nothing (35 Viewers)

I'm a Christian but I don't understand the whole gay marriage thing. The bible has a lot of stuff in it, and most Christians do a terrible job following most of it. But for some reason many of them/us get fired up about gay marriage and know chapter and verse...but can't even name a single book that talks about love and conpassion and acceptance and having a heart open to helping and healing others. It's bizarre.
Me either. Drives me nuts. One thing that's for sure is that it's pretty pointless to talk with them about it. The angriest I've ever seen my Glen Beck loving father-in-law get was when my wife dared question him about it. Came up when we were discussing her cousin (his niece) who got married to another woman in Canada.I don't want to get in in much of a religious debate here, but the other problem is that they're largely wrong. Outside of Leviticus (which has all kinds of absurd stuff that we choose to ignore), homosexuality doesn't really seem to be any worse than any other kind of extramarital sex. And I'd love to see those folks judge themselves by this standard:

The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.
 See you guys in hell!
Gambling isn't in there, is it?
Nope. I think you found a loophole, you twisted genius. Headed downstairs to gamble.

I'm in this camp too. If we're *really* concerned about preserving marriage, why don't we start by making adultery, porn, and fornication legal? Oh, right. Because Christians do all that stuff and this whole thing is less about legislating Christian beliefs (which is dumb in and of itself) and more about throwing things at the people who are different than us. I'm not sure when a lot of modern Christians suddenly decided that homosexuality was a worse sin than everything else in the world, but it isn't biblical.

So it wasn't enough to pile up and watch Disney. I had to be in my pajamas. So I changed and piled up and we watched four minutes if doc Mcstuffins and then she needed some water so she went to the living room with her mother. Lights are back on, I'm back in my regular clothes and I'm going out for a smoke.

I tried.

MacArtist, best thoughts and wishes to you. I wish your family was as intelligent and open as you are.

I'm just down the road if you need any messages sent. Almost impossible to trace, COlin will make sure this post goes away. ;)

This is why I love the Christians in the GMTAN. :) I have some devout Christians in my family, most notably my Dad before he died and my stepmother. They have not, as y'all also haven't, forgotten the meaning and importance of grace in Christian teachings.

Big day today, work-wise. My boss and I decided last week that today we would inform one of my team members of my departure in that we are going to ask him to take over my job on an interim basis (little chance of landing it permanently). Here, do all this extra #### for no extra pay--Yay, you!!!!

Then the plan was to tell the rest of my team tomorrow. Earlier today I convinced boss to tell the rest of the team next week instead (my departure date is end of April) in part because we have a party planned for Wednesday, which would have a bit of a damper if the big announcement were made the day before. Really my reason is that I couldn't take the emotion quite yet. So we delayed the big announcement, which will also involve a company-wide announcement, until next Tuesday. Had the initial meeting this evening, though. Went relatively well, except I cried all the way home.

Yes, I know my job sucks but my TEAM is incredible, and unlike any other job I've had I feel like I formed and nurtured that team. Going to be very, very difficult next week. The fact that we got through today, though, means I've finally taken irrevocable steps (well, mostly) to getting out.

Also, I got lost in MacArtist's post (my fault not hers), but after reading responses know I"d like to say I'm sorry, too. :(

There are lots of things wrong right now. But most of them disappear when my kid asks me to pile up with her and watch Doc McStuffins as she goes to sleep.
Horrible show, IMO.
We're on a big UmiZoomi kick.
Octonauts here
Kid's starting to warm up to Special Agent Oso.
Octonauts is one of the few I actually like myself (Phineas and Ferb being another one), but Oso is tolerable.

Sorry to hear all of that, McArtist. Good luck, K4
Thanks, and thanks SLB.Very awkward right now in that I haven't decided what to do. Love that fisherman story that was posted, BTW. :) But anyway, makes the announcement a bit awkward. Usually you'd see so-and-so is leaving because of great opportunity X. If someone is fired you get "leaving to pursue other opportunities". Mine we have to word more like the latter since I haven't decided, but without making it seem like I was fired. Of course, with my team I intend to tell the truth, which won't be a surprise, but for broader consumption it would be better if I were throwing some great job on there instead of being forthright and doing a "#### you" to the company. Our SVP of Communications has his hands full drafting this.

My kids are obsessed with Caillou and Bernstein Bears
I hate Cailou with the wrath of 1000 suns.
We had no idea about Caillou, and before we realized he was a ####### whiny baby, we had to wean the kid off. Not fun. We went to the Yo Gabba Gabba live show a couple weeks ago. Man that thing is an awesome racket.
My kid had a job for a short time with one of those "character birthday" businesses. He got to play Brobee about 3 times. You can tell your kid you iKnow Brobee's dad.

We are sad to announce today that Krista4 has decided to leave the company to follow her passion of posting in one specific thread in the off-topic forum of a fantasy football website. We wish her the best of luck in catching Furley in post count in the coming years. Krista4 will be dearly missed. YIC,Incompetent Management

Krista - at the risk of sounding like a d bag, I'm not sure I've ever seen a situation in work where the leaving party didn't overvalue themselves and the remaining workers didn't simple shrug ther shoulders, have a slice of cake, and go on with their lives.

I think it's awesome that you adore your team. A lot of companies would be better with people that cared like you do. But I guess my (honest) question is this: why is you leaving such a big deal? Won't they just hire your replacement and six months from now the wheels will still he turning? Why is it more complicated for the pr guy than just saying "one of our senior people is moving on and we wish her well."?

Not trying to be rude, just wondering what makes this different. The CEO of EA, a guy who lived and breathed that company for 20 years, resigned today. And his minions will show up for work tomorrow and move on. Just curious about your situation.

Ricky - Thanks. Because of people like you, we can places like this one.MacArtist - Sorry to hear about your POS brother. As others have said, I would have no problem never talking to him again.

Don't worry, don't they all have cancer?? They have bigger things to worry about.

I mentioned to my wife that all the Oso episodes are named after James Bond films, :tumbleweed: Had to explain a few to her still didn't get it. :wall: My daughter starting watching Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, so I loaded up some episodes of Mr Roger's Neighborhood on youtube and got her into those instead. Holy cow, he talks to you like a #######. He repeats everything someone tells him What is this over here? That is a drum.A drum, well how do you play it?One episode he went to a photo processing place, it took 6 different people to process a picture.

Macartist, sorry to hear about all that. I think. To be honest I need that entire post translated.

Hack and Rude - f'ing EPIC cornhole tonight.

A lot of hippy dippy parents freak the #### out over TV, but man, there's nothing better to get a kid to come down after a tantrum. It's like they're a completely new person after 25 minutes.

We're up to Zoey 101. :homer:
Thankfully we are waist deep in the Disney propaganda machine. Good Luck Charlie, Jessie, Shake It Up, Austin & Ally, Kickin' It. I will gladly sit through those any day. I kinda  me some Debby Ryan (thankfully of age)

Yeah, my whole world is definitely going to change when we have kids

We are hosting a couple of round table dinners in the next two weeks with some of the country's leading authorities n attendance. If you are in Austin or can be, let me know and I'll get you an invite.

Riding my bike to Austin also sounds like a blast, actually. Though 250 mile days don't.

Hi, I am Homer and I have a drinking problem. :banned:

I have several pages to catch up on, but I vaguely remember being a total d-bag to somebody last night. Was it Sofa? Maybe Tiger Fan? I don't know, something about basketball. Anyway, I was also verbally violent toward several facebook friends, so don't feel special that I chose you to throw some drunken Irishness at.

So take my apology and shove it up your ###.

WHEEEEEE! :pickle:

You practically swallowed the bait with the "Would the Miami Heat win the 2013 NCAA Tournament?" shtick.

HAHAHA yeah that's what it was! Wait, was that in here or in a different thread? I remember waking up and thinking I needed to apologize to Jim Tan. There was something in here, I know it.

OK, so F### this catching up bull####. Here's an update on Homer J's life and times.

I'm getting an apartment right behind my bar. like literally 27 feet from the back door, which is great but it's tiny and $1500 a month. Oof.

I currently live in a beautiful house with a pool and a spectacular kitchen and bathrooms every seven feet and I don't pay a dime in rent or utilities...but since my sister's girlfriend is kind of a seeyounexttuesday, I have to make myself scarce for the whole friggin summer. So rather than waiting til June, I'm gonna grab what I can at the moment. It's way too expensive, but my rationale is that it will undoubtedly save me from a DUI which in New York is extraordinarily painful. Like, 10 grand in cost plus riding a bike to work for six months at least. And considering that if i did get pulled over, my blood alcohol level would probably get me put in Riker's to get butthurt for 90 days...I'm thinking the expensive apartment is the way to go.

Anyway, I'm only gonna sign a lease until December 31st. I'll leave NY the week before Christmas and get plenty of family and friend time back in Youngstown. Xmas, New Year's, et cetera...

But what I'm coming to the GMTAN for is waht to do From January 7th until May. i have friends from here that have done winter in Hawaii and the Carribean and South Beach, so I have connections there. But #### it, I can literally go anywhere in the world. What would you suggest?

Hawaii? Brazil? Southeast Asia? Europe? South Pacific? The Bahamas?

There's gotta be some world travellers up in this mofo besides Krista, so I want some input.

Sorry I can't help, Homie. If it's any consolation, I'm drunk in the cafe of a low-roller casino I 've been looting for hours. I rule.

I think I just overplayed my hand in salary negotiations with one of the firms that made me an offer, but their incentive targets were unrealistic.
My experience in salary negotiations is that if they really like you, you aren't going to alienate them via your compensation demands unless you're a complete nut about it. Also, the way it typically works is that if you don't ask for it, you don't get it, and now's the time to define the relationship. Take care of #1 first. All they can do is say "no".

Good luck.
They could knee him in the nuts and call him a homo in front of everyone.
