GM's thread about nothing (24 Viewers)

Do we have anybody here that is close enough to Redmond, WA to have a corn hole on Feb 13? I'm trying to decide how badly I want to go on this trip.

Pros: Never been to Washington, never been invited to a Microsoft thing, love to travel.

Cons: My 2nd kid is being born a week before.

They only let one person from each org go so its either me or my boss. But he went last year. And before anyone gives me #### about the kid being born, my wife will not be by herself as her very large family will probably move in for a couple weeks. A 2 day outing to Washington would probably be welcome relief.
With all of that family around she'll be able to move your stuff out in a few hours.
:lmao:

Not going. Jim tan has counseled me well. :hifive:

I don't really know women, but now I know thorn, and he knows women, so I feel like I'm qualified to say that not only is it a bad idea to go on a trip days after your wife pops a baby out of her ######, it's so, so an even worse idea to think it would be better to leave her with her family while you go. Let them sit around in a little judgement circle while you have half as much fun on the trip as you ever normally would because you'll be thinking about your kid the whole time. Enjoy years of looking at pictures from that time that don't have you in them, and hoping she will only silently remember you leaving her while her body recovered from parasite removal. And while your relationship may stay rosy forever from here on out, if it doesn't, you can definitely look forward to every future mistake you make being compared to this.

If we were talking about a couple hours of going out with your friends or watching playoff football, that would be one thing. You're talking about days of being away, while hoping that the miracle of human flight and the debacle of airport security don't conspire to leave her a single mother, a thought that will cross her mind with each takeoff and landing.

I'm not sure how awesome a thing I would need to risk all of that, but a solo trip to the pacific northwest while doing work stuff most of the time is not close to enough.

It's been handled #######s. I'm not going. And I didn't get the thread clipped last week either. ####### judgmental #######s.

Have you discussed it with your wife? What does she say?
She says to go, actually. Seriously.
I mean you know her better than me but that sounds like a horrifically bad idea.
Starting to come around to this line of thinking...I can't imagine that anything GOOD would come out of it that would outweigh all the BAD that could result.
That's an awfully long flight for two days, especially since most of that time will be in MS>

I have to forgo a friend's vegas wedding for the birth of mine (although it's the friend's second wedding since 2007). Sometimes you have to make sacrifices.
Sorry to hear you have a stupid friend.
It's a female friend. She got divorced from a law school classmate who she fought with for their entire relationship. Then after marriage, he acted more single than before like going in on a shore house for the summer with his friends without talking to or including her etc. So they get divorced, and she goes back to a guy she dated in the past . . . and now they have a kid, so they are getting married.
Oof. Nothing personal GB.
No worries. I wasn't meaning to come off annoyed or anything. Just sharing.

I'm not kidding that I didn't see anything wrong with this idea. It's just a couple of days and she will have plenty of help and attention.

Obviously I have not had kids so am apparently am an idiot when it comes to these things. Double

That's something a guy gets an internet thread axed and who goes on a trip days after his child is born would say
Can't wait for ball sun to show up and wish death on me again.
At the risk of falling into a #### storm, why do people seem scared of him? He tries to bully people and cares way too much about words with friends.

Now you know how I feel when you start talking about contracts and CFOs and in-house counsels and all that other businessy stuff.

I sliced off a sliver of my 10 months olds pinkie pinkie finger while clipping his nails. Feel pretty bad about it. It wont stop bleeding and it's nearly impossible to apply pressure to it.
You'll never keep her off the pole now.
Do male strippers use poles?
You think he's going to be male forever?
Well he is very good looking for a 10 month old.
I call lady-toddler within a year.

Finally got to do a little reading this weekend.

Slow Burn - Damn good zombie book. solid, short pageturner set in Austin

Farmers and Cannibals- self published kindle sci-fi entry was pretty good, but I think GM might have been his editor

Sycamore Row - Grisham is back, baby. Best novel since Pecan Brief

Zealot - Life and TImes of Jesus Christ. Only halfway through this, but really holding my interest. NF history of the life of Jesus.

We're doing book thread here now? I like this idea.

Will have to check out Slow Burn and Zealot. I really hate the self published stuff that looks like it's written by a 9 year old. So irritating.

Not usually my cup of tea on the SP angle, but I loved the title. Prose was passable, spelling was forrestish.
