GM's thread about nothing (100 Viewers)

Picked up the Frozen CD on my way home (on sale @ Best Buy, GM). DD played the first 10 songs 3x in a row. Thankfully bedtime shut her down. Pre-ordered DVD arrives in 7 days.

[/every dad in America with a daughter age 4-12]
My 2.5 and my 4.5 yr old have watched this movie 50+ times already... not to mention all the music on 24/7 :wall:

I only got the CD because the misheard lyrics were driving me crazy.

Let the stove rave on

The coke never bothered me anyway

I like it!

I'm not too upset actually... it sure beats MLP and some of the other drivel the neighbor kids watch. My kids alternate between this movie, the Octonauts (4.5yr old), which has been parlayed into multiple books and a membership at the aquarium, and Doc McStuffins (2.5 yr old), which makes her excited to go to the doctor for all the kids stuff. Could be considerably worse...

Yeah, this is us too.

As far as kids' cartoons go, you could do a lot worse than the Octonauts.

So, yesterday my almost 9 year old truck that just hit 90k miles stalled on the on ramp getting on the highway. Check engine comes on, but I manage to get it started and get it home. Take it in this morning for an oil change and and to get the code checked. As these things go, the fix is pretty minor. I'll see if I have more trouble, but likely I'm looking at a sub $200 fix.

Anyway, I hate car reliability problems and this has me wondering if I'm about to hit the money pit stage of the truck (2005 Nissan Frontier). I decide to see what my trade in value is and amazingly it's around $12k! This was the first year of the 2nd generation Frontiers and the low mileage must be factoring in a pretty positive way.

I love not having had a car payment for a long time but I'd pretty much be a fool not to unload this thing now, right?

ETA: I also love driving an old truck where I don't give a crap about dings and such. That guy in the BMW who won't let me merge like a zipper? I just go anyway. Hit me. I have no ####s to give.

On a scale of 1 to Knuckles, how concerned should I be that my wife just asked a friend on facebook who he would recommend for concealed carry classes?

There was some kind of sales rep training going on at the same hotel I stayed at in Houston last night. Ended up spending a significant amount of time by the firepit with a gal who drank one of those jugs of sutter home white zin during our conversation. My favorite part of the chat came when she had to break up her. Opining on global economic dynamics (she is seriously concerned with the amount of wealth leaving developed countries for developing economies) in order to hold down a barf.

She was a mouthy drunk skinny blonde girl with low self esteem. She even got angry at someone in our group at one point. Pretty much right in my wheelhouse. If only I wasn't married...

Was hoping for a better ending. A happier one.

The evaluation process did make it as far as "Is this girl worth half my stuff?"

Seems like this young lady was more interested in micro-loans...

I've never felt the need to own a truck

i'm a big proponent of no car payment. and that's not a lot of miles for a car these days. it should soldier on at least until 150k, no?

In a similar situation.. I drive a 2005 small single cab pickup. Lately been feeling the transmission acting up so I changed out the filter and fluid. That only cost about 100 bucks, but if other things start breaking down or the transmission goes out completely I'll just have to get a new car. Really hate car payments though..

12k for trade in on a vehicle with nearly 100k miles seems crazy. If you can really get 12k for it I definitely think that's the best way to go. That sounds unrealistically high though.

Don't you need to factor in the cost of what you're getting to replace it before you say that's a good deal?

Used cars are retaining their values longer because they're more reliable than they used to be, so what benefits him on the front end will cost him on the back end.
